私達は、数カ所の観光ポイントを除いて、四国村の見学を終えました。
最後に、'㊻四国村カフェ' でお茶をし、夕食を 'わら家' でとりました。

"イギリス人のウィリアム・ダウン夫妻が住宅として建てた神戸異人館のひとつ。
寄棟造、桟瓦葺き（注1）の2階建ての建物で、入り口にはポーチがつきベランダが広がるなど、明治後期に建てられたコロニアル様式（注2）の特徴をよく表しています。
日本郵船の船員寮としても使われていたものを移築し、現在はカフェとして使われています。
注1：桟瓦葺き・・・平瓦と丸瓦を一体化させた波型の桟瓦を使用した屋根の葺き方。
注2:コロニアル様式・・・建築・工芸様式の一つ。
17〜18世紀のイギリス・スペイン・オランダの植民地で見られ、発展した。
周囲にベランダを巡らせたものが典型的。"

'Shikoku Mura Cafe'
We finished our tour of Shikoku Mura, except for a few tourist spots.
Finally, we had tea at the '㊻Shikokumura Cafe' and dinner at the Wara House.
According to Shikoku Mura website about '㊻Shikokumura Cafe',
"This Kobe ijinkan, or foreign residence, was built for Englishman William Down and his wife.
It is a two-story building with a yosemune-zukuri roof (*1) and an expansive veranda with porch, which are characteristic of the colonial style (*2) of the late Meiji period (1868 - 1912).
It was later used as a dormitory for Nippon Yusen shipping company sailors before it was relocated here to become this café.
*1 : Sangawara-buki—A roof covered with tiles that combine flat and round tile parts in a wave shape.
*2 : Colonial style—A term for architecture and craft style.
It was seen and developed in the British, Spanish, and Dutch colonies of the 17th and 18th centuries.
One typical feature is the veranda around the outside. "

最近、神戸の異人舘街の洋館が維持ができず、取り壊されたり、放置されたりしていると聞きました。
ここに移築されたこの建物は、ラッキーであったのではないかと思います。
I heard recently that the Western-style buildings in Kobe's Ijinkan district are no longer being maintained and are being demolished or left abandoned.
I think this building was lucky to have been relocated here.

四国村カフェ 私達は、四国村カフェの後にある、'流れ坂, 1976' から カフェの2階から入りました (写真左上)。 表玄関は、カフェを出る時に使用しました。 Shikoku Mura Cafe We entered the cafe from the first floor via 'Nagarezaka,1976', which is behind 'Shikoku Mura Cafe' (top left). We used the main entrance when leaving the cafe. |
下記、Wiki・'旧ワサ・ダウン住宅'より
"英国海軍軍艦 H.M.S.Iron Duke ('H.M.S.Iron Duke, 1870' / Completed in 1871) にて1873年10月27日に長崎に上陸した英国軍人ウィリアム・ダウン (William Down Sr./ ? -? ) の自邸として1905年 (明治38年)、神戸市の北野町に建設された木造2階建の西洋館である。
外壁下見板張のコロニアルスタイルという、いわゆる異人館の様式である。
竣工年にウィリアム・ダウンが死去したため、ウィリアム・ダウンと結婚した長崎の丸勢兵太郎 (?-?) の娘、丸勢ワサ (?-?) という日本人女性の名前によりワサ・ダウン住宅として呼ばれるようになった。
1944年 (昭和19年) から1975年 (昭和50年) まで日本郵船の船員寮東棟として使用され(西棟は現みなと異人館)、このときまでに階段位置の変更など内部に改造が加えられている。
日本郵船の寄贈により1976年 (昭和51年) に現在地である四国村に移築され、神戸市の指導によって建設当初の姿に復元された。"
According to Japanese Wiki about Former Wasa Down House, (translated by me)
"This two-storey wooden Western-style building was constructed in 1905 in Kitano-cho, Kobe, as the private residence of British Navy man William Down Sr. (? -?), who landed in Nagasaki on 27th of October, 1873, aboard the Royal Navy warship H.M.S.Iron Duke ('H.M.S.Iron Duke, 1870' / Completed in 1871).
It is a colonial-style building with clapboard exterior walls, a style commonly used in foreign-style houses.
As William Down died in the same year it was completed, it came to be called the Wasa-Down House after the Japanese woman who married William Down, Wasa Marusei (?-?) , the daughter of Nagasaki's Marusei Heitaro (?-?) .
From 1944 to 1975, it was used as the east wing of the dormitory for Nippon Yusen Kaisha's crew (the west wing is now Minato Ijinkan), and by this time some interior modifications had been made, such as changing the position of the staircase."

| 四国村の入り口 坂上正面が、㊺'おやねさん' で、入場チケット販売所であり、 ミュージアムショップでもあります。 右の建物が、'わら家' です。 Entrance to Shikoku Mura Directly ahead at the top of the hill is '㊺Oyanesan', which is the ticket sales booth and also the museum shop. The building on the right is 'Waraya'. |
カフェの後、ミュージアムショップで、いくつかの買い物をしました。

B. 四国村の始まり
The Beginnings of Shikoku Mura
これを発端とし、約 51,000 m²の敷地に16棟の建物を移築復元して、1976年に四国村が開村しました。
現在、四国村は、四国四県から江戸時代から明治時代の民家を中心とする、33棟の建物を移築復元した野外博物館になっています。
'わら家' のオーナーの思いが、現在の四国村を作ったのだと思います。
ここにある 'わら家' は、単なるうどんのお店だけではないのでした。

The Beginnings of Shikoku Mura
In 1975, an old house was moved from the Iya region (★＋★) of Tokushima Prefecture (currently Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture / Ayauta District, Kagawa Prefecture) to this site, and 'Wara-ya' opened.
This was the beginning of the relocation and restoration of 16 buildings on a site of approximately 51,000 m², and Shikoku Mura was opened in 1976.
Currently, Shikoku Mura is an open-air museum where 33 buildings, mainly folk houses from the Edo period to the Meiji period, have been relocated and restored from the four Shikoku prefectures.
I think it was the passion of the owner of 'Waraya' that created the Shikoku Mura we know today.
It turns out that 'Waraya' here is more than just an udon restaurant.

C. 夕飯 / Dinner
私が、'わら家' で夕飯を取ろうと決めた理由は、この場所が、スケジュール上の夕飯の時間に都合がよかったことと、香川県に滞在中、どこかで讃岐うどんを食べたいと思ったからでした。
'わら家' が四国村の一部であることも、四国村の第一歩であることも知りませんでした。
私の検索力が乏しかったのです。
結果オーライで、知らずに、記念になる場所で、夕飯が取れたことは、とてもラッキーでした。

Dinner
The reason I decided to have dinner in 'Wara-ya' was because the time of dinner on our schedule was convenient and I wanted to eat Sanuki udon somewhere while we were in Kagawa Prefecture.
I didn't know that 'Waraya' is part of Shikoku Mura, or that it was the first step of Shikoku Mura.
I guess my search skills were poor.
It all worked out in the end, and we were very lucky to have dinner in this memorable place without having known about it.
