ここ2, 3年、映画館で映画を見る機会がなかったのに、10,11月に3本も映画を恵比寿ガーデンシネマで見ました。
最初は10月に "ディリリとパリの時間旅行"(2018) 、
次が11月に"永遠の門 ゴッホの見た未来" (2018)、
そして3本めが、 ガーンジー島の読書会の秘密 (2018)でした。
"永遠の門 ゴッホの見た未来" については下記。
このセクションは、"ガーンジー島の読書会の秘密" についてです。
邦訳では "ガーンジー島の読書会の秘密" ですが、英語版では原作と同じ、
"ガーンジー島の文学とポテト皮パイ協会"
"The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society"
が映画でも使用されています。
邦訳はちょっと思わせぶりですが、文化が違うので、このタイトルが良いと思います。
翻訳者の方は、流石にプロだな〜と感心します...字幕翻訳者は牧野琴子 (マキノ コトコ / ?~ )さんですが、タイトルの担当者はわかりません。
これは推測でしかありませんが、英国人には英語版のタイトルで十分興味がそそられます (英国人はポテトが大好き<笑>) が、日本人にはぴん！とこないのかもしれません。
映画を見てしまえば、英語のタイトルの意味も納得できるかもしれませんが....。

The Third
I hadn't had a chance to watch a film in a cinema theatre for the last few years, but in October and November I watched three films at Yebisu Garden Cinema, Tokyo.
Firstly, in October, "Dilili in Paris" (2018),
Next is "At Eternity's Gate" (2018), in November,
and the third was "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" (2018).

This section is about "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society".
In Japanese, the title is "The Secret of the Reading Party on Guernsey Island", but in the English version, it is the same as the original book,
"The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society".
This is only speculation, but the English title is intriguing enough for the British (British love potatoes <laugh>), but for the Japanese, it may not click!
I'm impressed that the translator is a professional...The subtitle translator is Kotoko Makino (? ~), but I don't know the person in charge of the title.
If Japanese watch the film, the Japanese may understand, indeed the meaning of the English title ....

この島の響きにすでに秘密めいたものが感じられます。
それは私だけですか？
"ガーンジー" という名前は、古ノルド語 (古北欧語 / コホクオウゴ) に由来しています。
"ガーン(ジー ) : "guern(s)"の起源と意味は不明、おそらく個人名に由来し、" - イー : -ey" は "島" の意味の古ノルド語です。
現在は英国王室属領(ガーンジー代官管轄区)ですが、物語は、ナチス・ドイツの占領下(1940 - 1945)とその占領と戦争が終了した直後です。
[王室属領とはイギリスの国王 (the Crown) に属し、高度な自治権を持った地域である。伝統的に国王が王国外に有していた領地であるため、イギリス (連合王国、United Kingdom) には含まれず、それぞれ独自の憲法の下で政府を持っている。ただし、外交・防衛についてはイギリス政府が責任を負う(Wikiより)]

Guernsey
Guernsey is a real island.
I can already feel the secret of the sound of this island.
Is it just me?
The name "Guernsey" comes from Old Norse (Old Nordic).
The origin and meaning of "guern (s)" is unknown, probably derived from a personal name, and "--ey" is an Old Norse word meaning "island".
From its location, Guernsey has been governed by various countries and ethnic groups since ancient times.
It is presumed that the name was derived from Old Norse because it was ruled by the Normans (Norse Viking).
Currently a Crown dependency of England (Bailiwick of Guernsey), the story is about life under the occupation of Nazi Germany (1940 - 1945) and just after its occupation and the end of the war.

実は、"ガーンジー島の読書会の秘密" を見たのは1年前のことでした。
ブログ更新が1年遅れになっていて、それを知った方々に失笑されています。
この映画の詳細は忘れてしまいましたが、とても良い映画であったという印象が残っています。
自分の好きな素材：手書きの手紙、食べ物、本、島という組み合わせが入っているところも惹かれる理由です。
主役のリリー・ジェームズ がチャーミングで、ウーん、綺麗なものは気持ちを幸せにするというのを実感します。(美意識は人それぞれですけれどね）

邦訳タイトルは、内容がミステリーを思わせますが、ミステリー要素は抑えめの物語でした。
ナチスに対してのドキドキ、恋愛のドキドキ、読書の喜びなどなど様々な様相がバランスよく調合されています。
料理で言えば、腕の良い料理人が、良い素材を元に、良いバランスで正しく調理して美味しい一品を仕上げたのと同様のものです。
その料理は、何か強い香辛料を用いて、素材の悪さを隠す必要もないし、偏った強い個性を主張する必要もないのです。
こういう料理がいかに難しいことか... それを思うと、この映画の希有な素晴らしさを再認識できます。
まあ、ジャンク・フード的なカルチャーに慣れてしまった人にはものやりないかもしれません。

Delicious Dish
Actually, I saw "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" a year ago.
My blog update has been delayed for a year, and people who knew find out it, laugh at me.
I forgot the details of this film, but I still have the impression that it was a very good film.
I'm also attracted to the combination of my favourite things : handwritten letters, food, books, and islands.
The protagonist, Lily James, is charming, and I realize again that beautiful things make me happy. (Although each person has a different sense of beauty)
"Cinderella" (2015) played by Lily James was also cute!
(The prince was not good for me)
The content of the Japanese translation title is reminiscent of mystery, but the mystery element was a quiet story.
A well-balanced mix of various aspects such as the nervousness of the Nazis, the excitement of love, and the joy of reading.
In terms of cooking, it's like a good chef cooking a delicious dish with a good balance using good ingredients.
The dish does not need to use any strong spices to hide the poor quality of the ingredients, nor to insist on a biased and strong character.
How difficult it is to cook like this ... When I think about it, I can re-recognize the rare splendor of this film.
Well, if you're used to junk food culture, you might feel something is missing.

This was the last film I watched in 2019.
