パンフレットの説明には、
"新しい植栽は、中世時代の原型を反映させ、静けさと黙想の場です"
とあります。
なるほど〜...その通りという印象を庭から受けました。
According to the Leaflet,
"The new planting scheme reflects its medieval origins and is a place of tranquility and contemplation."
Indeed....I got the impression of that from the garden.

黙想の場に合っています。
It is unified with white flowers.

この場にふさわしい彫像に感じます。

It feels like a statue suitable for this occasion.

この彫像にしてもエルガーの彫像(大聖堂の北東)にしても、聖堂内のタペストリーにしても、私好みのアート作品です。
歴史ある建物に新しいものを加える時は、その時の権力がある人の美的感覚が大きく左右されるのだな〜と感じました。
ヘレフォード大聖堂のその方々の感覚が、私は好きなのでしょう。

敷地外からの撮影
これを撮影した時に、この彫像にとても興味がありました。 ようやく、そばに行きました...。 外から見た方が、この場に何か違う空間があるのがより感じられます。 Photography from Outside When I photographed this, I was very interested in this statue.
Finally I went by....
If I look from the outside, I could feel that
there is something different in this place.

Whether it's this statue, the Elgar statue (northeast of the cathedral) or the tapestry inside the cathedral, they are my favourite types of art works.
When they added something new to a historic building, I felt that the aesthetic sense of the people with the power at that time was greatly affected.
I might like the people's senses of Hereford Cathedral.

以前はここは通りぬけできたのかもしれません。
現在この中は展示場なので閉じられています。 People may have been able to go though here before. Nowadays behind this doorway is exhibition space, so it is closed off. |
2) Chapter House Garden

カフェからチャプター・ガーデンへのドア
比較的新しいドアなのでしょうけれど、 中世を感じさせます。

Though it is a relatively new door, it has a medieval feel.

14世紀前半ににチャプター・ハウスとそのポーチ (vestibule) が作られました。
現在ある庭は復元(再建)されたものです。
チャプター・ハウスは真ん中の芝の部分にあったのでしょうか？？？
それともここがポーチ部分？
The present garden has been restored.
Was the chapter house in the middle of the grass? ? ?
Or was there a vestibule?
 
遺跡の花？
現在はテーブルなのか、ベンチなのかわかりませんが、
ボール・フラワー / Ball-flower の遺跡でしょうか？
壁も14世紀のもの？
?マークばかりの文章で笑う....
Ruin Flower?
I don't know if it's a table or a bench now, but is it the ruin of Ball-flower?
Is the wall from the 14th century?
My writings have many ? marks, I laugh at myself.

| このカフェ: ⓫を通り抜けないと展示場に行けません。 正面の壁に記念碑らしきものが多数展示されています。 墓石でないことを願う.... You cannot go to the exhibition hall without going through this cafe : ⓫. They seem to be many monuments, are displayed on the front wall. I hope they are not tombstones .... |

4) お土産 / Souvenirs
カフェの隣は、大聖堂のお店 : ⓫です。自分へと友人用にお土産をいくつか購入しました。
下の写真はその一部です。
