Vasa Museum is in Djurgården Island, Stockholm.
A huge ship, Vasa is installed in the Museum.
It is the Swedish Navy's 64 - gun ship of the line more than 390 years ago.
More than one million people visit each year to see the only surviving
17th century ship in the world.

The Vasa was laid down in 1626 and completed in 1627

1:10の船の模型
ヴァーサ号は、1628年の処女航海で沈没し、333年後に引き揚げられ、
現在、博物館に展示されています。
これはヴァーサ号の10分の1の模型です。
Model of Vasa Sinking to Seabead
Vasa sank on its first voyage in 1628,
and was recovered 333 years later, and is now on display in the Museum.
This is a one-tenth model of the Vasa.
オリジナルの色
現在のヴァーサは木肌の色になっていますが、
建造当時は、鮮やかに彩色されていました。
模型の彫刻はオリジナルの色と思われる色で描かれています。
Original Colours
Today's Vasa has a bark colour,
but when it was built, it was vividly coloured.
The sculptures of the model are paintedin what are believed to be the original colours.  |

実物のヴァーサには帆は張られていません。 ですが、模型には帆が張られています。 帆船はロマンチックです。 Sailing Ship
The actual Vasa has no sails.
However, the model is in full sail.
The sailing ship is romantic.

3) 救出 / Rescue
ヴァーサ号を引き揚げる方法は、色々検討されましたが、基本的には、中世の時と同じやり方で実行されました。
下の写真と説明は、物語のセクション(下)でも使用しました。
There had been various studies on how to lift the Vasa, but basically it was carried out in the same way as in the Middle Ages.
The photographs and descriptions below were also used in the story section, below.

1959年8月20日に世紀の時を超えて、ヴァーサ号は3海底から動きました。
最終的な引き揚げ作業の間の2年間、
ヴァーサ号は水深18mの浅い水域で保管されました。
1961年4月24日にヴァーサは、私達の世界へ戻ってきました。

For the first time in three centuries, Vasa moved from the seabed.
During the final two years of salvage work,
Vasa was stored in shallow water at a depth of 18m.
On April 24, 1961, Vasa returned to our world.

海底での作業のジオラマ
このジオラマは実寸です。 潜水服も随分と '昔' を感じさせます。 宇宙服のようでもあります...。 そう言えば、海と宇宙は、似ているイメージがありますが それは私だけでしょうか？ Diorama of Work on Seabed
This diorama is life-size.
Diving suits also make me feel 'old times'.
It's like a spacesuit...
Speaking of which, the sea and the universe have similar images, but is it just me?

ヴァーサ号が今の博物館に展示されるまでには、多くの人々の情熱と仕事が必要でした。
そして時間も...。 その時間はヴァーサ号が海底で眠っていた時間よりもずっと短いですね。 ですが、いつか、ヴァーサ号が眠っていた時間よりも、 保存時間の方が長くなるのかもしれません。
私を含め多くの人がそうなるように願っていると思います。
It took a lot of people's passion and work
before Vasa could be displayed in the museum today.
And their time...
That time is much shorter than the time Vasa slept under the sea.
But someday, the museum time might be longer than Vasa's sleeping time.
The preservation time may be longer.
I think a lot of people, including me, hope that will happen.
