1) ブラックフライアーズ駅 / Blackfriars Station
2017年の英国旅行では、約3ヶ月滞在中、3回、セントラル・ロンドンの美術館、
博物館を訪ねました。

英国内旅行も、英国から海外への旅行もしました。

それにしても、"3回" というのは、あまりに少なすぎ...

その反省を得て、今回の旅行では、
「たくさん、セントラル・ロンドンへ行くぞ〜！」
「たくさん展覧会を見るぞ〜！」
という目標を自分の中で、掲げていました。

前回、ロンドンへ、テート・ブリテインのゴッホ展: 
 "THE EY EXHIBITION VAN GOGH AND BRITAIN" : ★ を見に出かけたのは、
8月1日でした。

次が、この日、8月26日。テート・モダンへ向かいます！

「セントラル・ロンドンへ出かけられる日を大切にしよう！」
という目標に変えました (苦笑)。

テート・モダンへの行き方は、いくつかあります。

この日は、私と夫Rは、ウィンブルドン駅からブラックフライアーズ駅 / Blackfriars Station へ行き、駅から徒歩でテート・モダンへ行く方法を選びました。

ウィンブルドン駅では、行きは、行くべき方向とは逆の線；サットン・ループ線に乗ってしまいました。

ループ線なので、戻ってきます。

急ぐこともないので「Oh!  Dear! (やっちゃったね）」と一言で片付けて、窓から観光をしました。

こんなことをしでかしてしまうのは、セントラル・ロンドンへ行き慣れていないのに、私がリサーチをせず、判断をRに一任してしまうからです。

でもせめて、ロンドンにいる間は、私がリサーチして判断をするのでなく、彼にしてもらいたいものだと願うのです。

そして彼は英国人なので、間違っても自分の決定に自信を失いません。
(私はすぐ自信を失うので、彼の自信はすごいな〜と思います)

悶々としながら、電車の窓からの観光をし、ブラックフライアーズ駅に到着、そう、到着できたから、それで良し！なのです。

Blackfriars Station

During my trip to Britain in 2017, I visited museums in Central London '3 times' while staying for about three months.

That summer I had travelled both in Britain and abroad.

Even so, '3 times' is too few...

With that reflection, I set myself these goals.
"I'm going to Central London many times!"

"I will visit many exhibitions!"

The last time I went to London was on 1st of August to see the Van Gogh Exhibition : "THE EY EXHIBITION VAN GOGH AND BRITAIN" : ★

Next was this day, 26th of August. Head to Tate Modern!

I changed my goal (Wry Smile).
"Let's cherish the day when we can go to Central London!" 

There are several ways to get to Tate Modern.

On this day, I and my husband R chose to go from Wimbledon Station to Blackfriars Station and walk to Tate Modern on foot.

At Wimbledon station, we got on the Sutton Loop line, which was the opposite of the direction we were supposed to go.

It's a loop line, so you'll come back....

We didn't have to hurry, so I put it away in a word, "Oh! Dear!" and took to sightseeing from the window.

The reason I do this is because I'm new to Central London but I don't do the research and leave the decision to R.

But at the very least, while I'm in London, I hope he does instead of my researching and deciding. 

And since he is British, he doesn't lose confidence in his decisions even if he makes a mistake.
(I think his confidence is great because I lose my confidence easily...)

While suffering mental agony, I had sightseeing from the train window and arrived at Blackfriars Station, if it’s over, it’s good.

駅のガラス窓(?)を通して
鮮やかな色合いに目を止めました。
これは何？
反対側はどうなっているのかしら？と好奇心がむくむくと...。
テート・モダン方向とは反対の出口へ向かいました。

デザインは両面同じでした。

Blackfriars Station

Through the glass window (?) of the station, my eyes were caught 
by the vivid colours.

What is this?

I wondered what's happening on the other side? My curiosity swelled...

We headed for the exit, away from Tate Modern.

Now I know that the design is the same on both sides.

2) 旧ブラックフライアーズ駅 / Old Blackfriars Station

ブラックフライアーズ駅は、ロンドン地下鉄 /  London Undergroundと英国国鉄 / British Railwaysが通っています。

私達は、英国国鉄 を利用して、ブラックフライアーズ駅に到着しました。

ブラックフライアーズ駅の推移は結構複雑です。

英国国鉄線の1つであった、"ロンドン・チャタム・アンド・ドーバー鉄道  / London Chatham and Dover Railway : LC&DR"が、1859年に設立されました。

LC&DRは、1864年にジョセフ・キュービット / Joseph Cubitt (1811 - 1872) が設計したブラックフライアーズ鉄道橋を完成させ、テムズ川南にブラックフライアーズ橋駅 / Blackfriars Bridge Station を開業しました。

1885年にブラックフライアーズ橋駅は旅客営業を廃止し、以後は貨物専用駅となりました。

下流 (東側) に、2度目の橋、セント・ポールズ鉄道橋が
ジョン・ウルフ・バリー / John Wolfe-Barry (1836 - 1918) と 
ヘンリー・マーク・ブルネル / Henry Marc Brunel (1842 -1903) の
設計で、1886年に建設されました。

新しい橋は、錬鉄 (レンテツ) 橋です。

エッフェル塔 (竣工1889) もこの素材です。

1886年に、主要線としてセント・ポールズ鉄道が開通し、"セント・ポールズ駅 / St Paul's Sataion 駅" (現在のブラックフライアーズ駅)として、 LC&DR"により開業しました。

1937年に、セント・ポールズ駅からブラックフライアーズ駅に変更され、同時に橋の名前も、セント・ポールズ鉄道橋からブラックフライアーズ鉄道橋 / Blackfriars Railway Bridgeに変更されました。

Old Blackfriars Station

Blackfriars Station is served by the London Underground and British Railways.

We arrived at Blackfriars Station using British Railways.

The transition of Blackfriars station is quite complicated.

One of the British National Railways lines, London Chatham and Dover Railway : LC&DR" was established in 1859.

In 1864, LC&DR completed the Blackfriars Railway Bridge designed by 
Joseph Cubitt (1811-1872) and opened the Blackfriars Bridge Station south of the Thames.

In 1885, Blackfriars Bridge Station closed its passenger business, and since then it has become a freight station.

Downstream (to the east), a second bridge, the St. Paul's Railroad Bridge, was designed by John Wolfe-Barry  (1836-1918) and Henry Marc Brunel  (1842 -1903) and was built in 1886.

The new bridge is a wrought iron bridge. 

The Eiffel Tower (built in 1889) is also made of this material.

In 1886, St. Paul's Railway was opened as the main line, and it was opened as
"St Paul's  Station" (currently the Blackfriars Station) by LC&DR".

In 1937, the station was changed from St. Paul's Station to Blackfriars Station, and at the same time the name of the bridge was changed from St. Paul's Railroad Bridge to Blackfriars Railway Bridge.

3つの橋のスパン(支持台と支持台の幅)と橋脚 (支持台) が揃っています。

Tate Modern's new building : the Blavatnik Building can be glimpsed

beyond the Railway Bridge.

3) 新旧の橋 / New and Old Bridges 

右 : ブラックフライアーズ鉄道橋 

左 : 英国指定建造物の支持台

古い橋：旧ブラックフライアーズ鉄道橋 は、新型の電車を支えられなくなり、

1985年に取り去られました。

赤い支持台が、写真のように残されました。

この支持台は 英国指定建造物、2級に指定されています。

新しい橋でなく古い支持台が英国指定建造物になり、
保存されるところが英国の素晴らしさだな〜と感じます。

蛇足ながら、川はテムズ川です。

川のうえのホームからの眺めは面白いです。

Left: Columns are Listed Building.

Old Bridge : the Old Blackfriars Railroad Bridge was removed in 1985 

as it could no longer support the modern trains.

The red columns (abutments) were left as shown in the photograph.

The red columns are Listed Building, Grade II.

I feel that it is a wonderful part of Britain that the old columns, not the new bridge, 

have been Listed Building and have been preserved.

Incidentally, the river is the Thames.

The views from the platform above the river are interesting.

南側の古い支持台

この部分も英国遺産建造物2級に含まれます。

South Old Abutment

This part is also included in Listed Building, Grade II.

表記されている"1864年"は、LC&DR"によって

ブラックフライアー橋駅が開業した年です。

This dates from when the Blackfriars Bridge Station opened in 1864 by LC&DR.

ブラックフライアーズ橋

1869年竣工

この橋は、ビクトリア女王 (1819 -1901 / 在位 : 1837 -1901) 
によって開かれました。
ブラックフライアーズ橋 / Blackfriars Bridge (道路の橋) は、
ブラックフライアーズ鉄道橋の西側(上流)にあります。
道路の橋と鉄道橋は、平行にテムズ川に架かっています。

ブラックフライアーズ橋は、旧ブラックフライアーズ鉄道橋(1964)を設計した
ジョセフ・キュービットが設計しました。

A201号が道路の橋を通っています。

 Blackfriars Bridge

Built in 1869

This bridge was opened by Queen Victoria (1819 -1901 / reign : 1837 -1901).

 Blackfriars Bridge spans the River Thames parallel 
to the west side of the Blackfriars Railroad Bridge.

The Blackfriars Bridge was designed by Joseph Cubitt, who designed the former Blackfriars Railway Bridge (1864).

The road bridge is the A201.

You can glimpse the old red columns.
From here, head to Tate Modern.

2017年にテート・モダンへ行った際にも、ブラックフライアーズ駅を使いました(下記)。
