1) ファンタジーが生まれるとき

     When Fantasies arise.....

今年、二階堂から鎌倉山に引っ越しするときに、

角野栄子さん作『ファンタジーが生まれるとき』(2004,岩波書店) の

本を書棚の奥に見つけました。

言うまでもなく、角野さんは『魔女の宅配便』(1985)の作者です。

まだ、私が英国に住んでいた頃に、友人Kが

『ファンタジーが生まれるとき』

を送ってくれました。

英国からの荷物に入れたものの、書棚の奥にあり、今になって、目の前にあらわれ、引っ越し後にようやく読みました。

角野さんの自伝に近い内容です。

例えば、幼い頃のお父様との思い出、ブラジル生活や出会った人々、お嬢様が描いた魔女の絵から『魔女の宅配便』が生まれた話などが

あります。

お嬢様の描いた魔女の絵は、箒にラジオがかけられ、黒猫も一緒で、なるほど、ここにキキが既に居たのかと納得しました。

表紙から受ける印象より(表紙が悪いという意味ではありません）も、とても良かったので、こんなことなら、もっと早く読めばよかったとちょっぴり後悔したのです。

いろいろなことが共感できましたし、好きなものや世界が重なりました。

その本を読み終わってすぐに、"鎌倉ブックカーニヴァル"のちらしを見つけました。

When Fantasies arise.....

When I moved from Nikaido to Kamakurayma this year, 

I found a book "When Fantasies arise..."(2004, Eiko Kadono) 

on the depths of my bookshelf.

Of course, Eiko Kadono is the author of 

 "Kiki's Delivery Service"(1985) 

which was adapted in 1989 as an animated film :

 "Kiki's Delivery Service" by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.

When I lived in Britain, my friend K sent me  "When Fantasies arise...", 

but I hadn't read it  until after the moving.

I think the book is similar to her autobiography and some of her other works and ideas which came from somewhere else. 

For instance, there are memories of her father and her life in Brazil, and her daughter's picture stimulated her to make 

 "Kiki's Delivery Service".

I understand that the daughter's picture is a girl and a black kitten ride on a beam from which a radio is hanging.  

It is better than the cover's image ( it does not mean the cover is awful), so I regretted I did not read it earlier.

I felt sympathy with her about many things and her favourites. 

Just after reading the book, I found a flyer of "Book Carnival in Kamakura" .

2) 本談会 / Talks

A. ちらし/ Flyer 

"shyoca(ショカ)" か、"ソング ブック カフェ/ SONG BOOK Cafè" に寄った時に、そのちらしを偶然見つました。

どちらのお店も、私は好き！

両方とも"ブックカーニバル"のイベントに参加していました。

長谷界隈をふらふらするときは、結構な回数でこのお店に寄りますけれど、出不精な私はこのふらふらする自体が基本的に少ないのです。

そんな暮らしぶりで、このちらしを見つけられたのは、ラッキーなことでした。

イラストレーションが好みだったので、手にとったというのが大きな理由で、内容からではありませんでした。

I found the flyer in "shyoca" or "SONG BOOK Cafè", when I wandered around Hase.

I like both shops.

 If you are interested in them,  you could visit their websites, although they are only in Japanese.

When I wander around Hase, I often visit them, although basically

I am a stay-at -home, usually I do not go out, so that I detected it was very lucky for me.

I picked it up, because I like the illustration rather than because of the content. 

B. 迷う/ I was in two minds

ちらしで'本談会'というイベントがあり、角野栄子さんもいらっしゃると知りました。

そのうえ、日頃から入ってみたいな〜と思っていた民家:

イシワタリスタジオで開催されるとのこと。

これはもう、行かなくては！

『ビブリア古書堂の事件手帖』(2011, メディアワークス文庫)の

作者、三上延(1971~)さんの回もありました。

ドラマ (2013)にもなったそうですが、私は見ていません。

その本の中では、ビブリア古書堂というのは、北鎌倉にある設定で、事件もその近辺で起きるので、話が身近に思えます。

今回、本談会に彼が呼ばれたのは、そういうことからでしょう。

迷いましたが、角野栄子さんの回だけにしました。

The flyer tells us of Events 'The Talks',  Eiko Kadono's is one of the speakers. 

Moreover, they would use Ishiwatari Studio for the event, an old Japanese style house which I would like to visit.

I must go!

And also another author was En Mikami (1971~), I read his book "Biburia Koshodo no Jiken techo : The Biblia Antiquarian Bookstore Case Files" (2011, Media Works Bunko).　

It became a TV drama (2013), although I haven't watched it.

The book shop is in Kita-Kamakura in the book, the cases happens around there, so the stories are close to me. 

En Mikami became one of the speakers, because Kamakura residents, including me, feel like that.

I was in two minds, however, I decided only to attend Eiko Kadono's Talk.

C. 和室で

     At Japanese Room: Tatami Room

姉と本談会に参加しました。

当日、イシワタリスタジオの１階は"ベトナムカフェ"として営業し、本談会は二階の畳の間で開催されました(下の写真)。

イシワタリスタジオの玄関で、ちょうど、いらっしゃった

角野さんに出会いました。

わ〜っ、この方が角野栄子さん！

目が吸い付けられるように、彼女を追い続けてしまいました。

たくさん靴が並ぶ中、彼女は自分の靴をそろえ、台の下の隅に

ちょこっと置きました。

その動作が、配慮がきく謙虚な方だな〜と私に思わせ、かわいらしい方だなとも感じさせました。

わくわくしつつ、会場で彼女の登場を待ちました。

角野さんは、正面に座られ、マイクなしで話されました。

途中、道路の雑音で聞きにくかった内容はありましたが、少人数で
お話をうかがえたのは、貴重な経験でした。

具体的な距離が近いというのは、話の内容以外にも、何か目には見えないものを受け取れるように感じました。

彼女は鎌倉に10年住まわれているそうです。

『ファンタジーが生まれるとき』の内容とかぶるものも、いくつかはありましたが、肉声というのは、本とは違った良さ(強さ？)があります。

私が一番印象に残った話は、

[鎌倉の浜辺の砂や小石が海の水を吸い込む、'しゅわしゅわっ'という音を聞き、幼い頃の自分が耳を砂地につけるようにし、お尻をちょこんと上にあげ、その音を聞こうとしたことを思い出し、鎌倉に住もうと決めた]

というものです。

こういう感覚は、私には非常にわかりやすいものですが、人によっては  '？' となる部分かもしれません。

今年、『魔女の宅配便』の実写版の映画が製作されるそうで、その中に角野さんもちらっと出演されるそうです。

小豆島で撮影が行われ、封切り は2014年とのことでした。

因に、私は下記2点を初めて知りました。
『魔女の宅配便』は6冊のシリーズもの。
'魔女キキの魔法とは、たったひとつ、箒に乗って空を飛べるということ'

この物語はキキが双子の母親になり、その子らの自立するまでが書かれています。
(と、思います）

また、角野さんの魔法を大判振る舞いしないというポリシーがあります。

それらは、玄関できちんと靴をそろえて、脇に寄せる人物が、同一人物であることを非常になっとくさせる事柄であると私は納得しました。

和室にて

携帯のカメラで撮影、そのうえ、ピントがなくすみません... 。

角野さんを迎えてからは、失礼かと思って、

撮影しませんでした。

席は、お座布団ですが、

私は足の脱臼の恐れがある正座を避けるために、

椅子席をお願いしていました。

After the author came, I did not take photographs, 

because I feel the act is rude.  

The seats are Zabuton: floor cushions, 

although I asked for a chair to avoid dislocating my hip.

I went with my sister Y.

On the day, they managed a "Vietnamese Café" in a ground floor, and the talk event was in a Japanese room: Tatami room on the first floor. (Ishiwatari Studio)

In the entrance, we came across Eiko Kadono who had just arrived. 

"Wow! this person is Kadono San!"

My eyes stuck fast to her. 

There were many shoes in the entrance, she took her shoes off, picked them up and put by the wall as well as under a stool. 

Her movements gave me the feeling that she is very considerate and is modest and is a lovely person.


While I waited for her appearance in the room, I was excited.

She sat down in the centre and started talking without a microphone. 

Although sometimes  her voice was covered by the noise of cars outside the house it became my good experience that I could listen to her with a small number of people.

I feel that the distance from her to me was really close so not only did we hear her talk but also we were given something which we could not see.

She has lived in Kamakura for 10 years.

Her talk included some parts of "When Fantasies arise..." and although I remembered them, when she spoke, I thought the voice is something better (or something stronger) than the writing. 

My strongest impression is the episode 
[When she listened to Sea Sounds, 'Schowa Schowa' : sea water was absorbed into small stone, shells and sand in a beach in Kamakura. 
It reminds her of her memory when she was a child, she tried to listen as she had done then. 
She could have a very clear image of the child's pose, the child's ear was close to the sand and her hip stuck up. 
Then she decided 'I would live in Kamakura!]

For me, it is easy to understand her sense, although some people might be surprise or '?'

This year, "Kiki's Delivery Service" is being adapted into a film : 
"Majo no Takkyubin", it will be released in 2014.

I heard that the author will make a small appearance. 

By the way, this was the first time I knew that
 "Kiki's Delivery Service" is a 6 book series and that 
the only sorcery Kiki has as a Witch is that she can fly with a besom. 

The stories are from when Kiki was a girl, having her twins, bringing them up to seeing them become independent (I think).

And also Kadono's idea is that she wouldn't use the magic as a splendid banquet in her works. 

These really made me think that the lady who carefully placed her shoes must be the same person. 

3) SONG BOOK Cafè

本談会の前に、SONG BOOK Cafèでお茶と甘いものをいただきました。

Before we went to the talk, we had sweets with a pot of tea in SONG BOOK Cafè.

軽食もとれるのです。
ただし、イベント中はランチはありませんでした。

Inside
We enjoy their picture books as well as refreshment.
However, while they had the event,
 they did not serve lunch. 

姉はフルーツティとスコーンをいただきました。
My sister had scones with a pot of fruit tea 

私はハーヴティとカスタードプリンをいただきました。
I had a custard pudding with a pot of herb tea.

高畠 純さんの"はんたいさかさまあべこべかるた"
ふたつ購入
結局２つとも人へのプレゼントになってしまいました。

4) shyoca 

shyoca (ショカ)には好みの絵本がたくさんあって、買うのに困ってしまいます。

いいな〜、いいな〜と思いつつ、眺め、何も買わないことも多々あります。

今日は、トミー•ア(ウ)ンゲラー(Jean-Thomas "Tomi" Ungerer, 1931~)の絵本を見つけました。

彼の絵本は、大学生の時に買ったのが最後で、懐かしくもあり、絵柄が変化してることもあり、購入しました(下の写真)。

我が家のディスプレイコーナーに飾ったまま、まだ読んでいません。

There are a lot of my favourite books, so I couldn't decide which to buy.

I just look at their books and I do not buy anything many times.

Today, I found a picture book by Tomi Ungerer .

I last bought one of his picture books, when I was a university student in Japan, so I missed his work, and his style was changed and then 
I decided on buying.
 (See below photographs of the book). 

The book is in the display shelf in our house, I haven't read it yet.

季節が違うけれど飾っています。

This does not suit this season,
although I display it.
