"北庭に広がる「群鴨池（ぐんおうち）」一帯は、

もともと藩主が鴨狩りをするかもば鴨場であったところ。"

According to their website, only in Japanese, 

(translated by me)

"The area around Gunouchi Pond, which spreads out 

in the northern garden, was originally a duck hunting ground 

where the feudal lord would go."

このあたりは、花しょうぶ園かもしれません。
This area may be a Japanese Iris garden.

群鴨池 

群鴨池には、秋島、夏島、冬島、多聞島があります。

Gunouchi Pond 
Gunouchi Pond has Akishima, Natsushima, 
Fuyushima, and Tamonshima Islands.

花しょうぶ園
群鴨池のこの一角には、数千株の花しょうぶが植えられています。

Japanese Iris Garden
Thousands of Japanese irises are planted
 in this corner of Gunouchi Pond.

橋を渡ると多聞島。
私達は渡らず、進みました。

Once you cross the bridge you will reach Tamon Island.
We didn't cross it and just kept going.

古代の塚や戦争時の要塞を連想させます。


It evokes ancient mounds and wartime fortifications.
