枕崎市は、'カツオの町'、市内至る所に、カツオに関係したさまざまなものがあります。

Makurazaki City is a 'Bonito Town', and there are various things related to bonito throughout the city.

現在、枕崎は、鰹節生産量は、日本一です。

Currently, Makurazaki is Japan's largest producer of Katsuobushi.

"In the typhoon of 1893, 29 out of 60 bonito boats were lost, 

and many people died (411 people).

To help the bereaved families,

 peddlers began selling dried bonito."

歩道に一本釣り漁船のタイルが埋め込まれています。
もう、だいぶ、色褪せていますね。
それがまた、いい感じで、アート的になっています。

Pole-and-line Fishing Boat
Pole-and-line fishing boat tiles are embedded in the sidewalk.
It's already faded.
It's also good feeling and is going to be be artistic.

きばらん海のマンホール
'きばらん海'は、枕崎港まつりの名称で、
花火大会やイベントが開かれます。
'きばらんかい' は、鹿児島の方言で、
'がんばりなさい'の意味です。
結構、全国的に知れ渡った方言だと感じます。

Kibarankai  Manhole
'Kibarankai' hold fireworks and events
under the name of the Makurazaki Port Festival.
'Kibarankai' is in Kagoshima dialect, meaning 'Do Your Best'.
I feel that it is a well - known dialect nationwide.

花渡橋の欄干
見る角度によって、欄干のかつおが水の中を
泳いでいるように見えます。
花渡橋 (ケドバシ) は、花渡川 (ケドガワ) に掛かっています。

Handrail of Kedo Bridge
Depending on the viewing angle,
the bonitos on the parapet looks like
 they are swimming in the water.
Kedo Bridge spans the Kedo River.

欄干の両端にもかつお！
Bonitos on Both Ends of the Handrail!

花渡橋は1999年 (平成11年) に完成したことを知りました。

I found that Kedo Bridge was completed in 1999 (Heisei 11).

かつお通りの歩道は、海と波を模している
と思います。

I think that the pavement of Bonito Street imitates
 the sea and waves.

海のような空 / Sky like Sea

スーパーマーケットで / In the Supermarket 

'ぶえんかつお' は、一本釣りした鰹を

船上にて活き〆（血抜き）したあと急速冷凍しています。

昔から枕崎では、塩をしていない新鮮な魚を'ぶえん'

と呼んでおり、'ぶえんのように新鮮な' という意味を込めて

「枕崎ぶえん鰹」と名づけられています。

右下のキャラクターは、'ブエンマン'。

'Buen Bonito' is made from pole-caught bonito that 

is ikijime (blood-free) on board the fishing boats 

and then flash-frozen.

Makurazaki has long called fresh fish that has not been 

salted 'Buen', and the name 'Makurazaki Buen Katsuo'

 means 'as fresh as buen'.

観光案内所の方にスーパーで売っている
 'ぶえん鰹'を勧められました。
私達は、スーパーで買い物をして、
ホテルの部屋で夕飯を食べました。
もちろん、 'ぶえん鰹' を買いました。

Dish for Dinner

The tourist information centre recommended

 'Buen Bonito' sold in a supermarket.

We shopped in the supermarket and had dinner in our hotel room.

Of course, we bought 'Buen Bonito'.
