ウィティック館は、ウォルヴァーハンプトン / Wolverhampton にあり、1937年より、ナショナル・トラストにより運営されています。
ウィティック館は、アーツ・アンド・クラフト運動と耽美主義(タンビシュギ) の影響を受けた、現存している数少ない建物の1つです。
館は、1887年から1893年にかけて、
セオドラ・マンダー / Theodore Mander (1853–1900)、妻フローラ/ Flora に
よって建てられ、セオドラの息子、
ジョーフレイ・マンダー / Sir Geoffrey Mander 卿 (1882-1962) が
1937年、国に寄贈し、その後ナショナル・トラストによって管理されています。
ジョーフレイは、実業家であり、国会議員でもありました。

アーツ・アンド・クラフト運動は、
ウィリアム・モリス / William Morris (1834 - 1896)
を中心に、英国で始まり、1880年から1920年頃にヨーロッパと北米で栄えた装飾芸術の国際的な傾向であり、1920年代に日本では、
柳宗悦 (ヤナギ ムネヨシ 又はソウエツ / 1889 - 1961)
が推奨する民藝運動 (ミンゲイウンドウ) として出現しました。
建物の設計は、エドワード・オウルド / Edward Ould (1852–1909)がし 、
内装や家具は、
チャールズ・エマー・ケンプ / Charles Eamer Kempe (1837 - 1907)、
ウィリアム・モリス / William Morris (1834 - 1896)、
当時、アーツ・アンド・クラフト運動の工芸品は高価なので、裕福層にしか手に入りませんでした。

"Wightwick Manor & Gardens" is in Wolverhampton and has been managed by National Trust since 1937.

"Wightwick Manor & Gardens" is in Wolverhampton and has been managed by National Trust since 1937.
"Wightwick Manor" is one of the few surviving buildings influenced by the Aesthetic movement and Arts and Crafts movement.
The Manor was built by Theodore Mander (1853–1900) and his wife, Flora in 1887 and 1893, and his son, Geoffrey (1882-1962) gifted to the nation in 1937 and then it is managed by National Trust.
The Manor house was designed by Edward Ould (1852–1909), with decorations and furnishings by
Charles Emmer Kempe (1837 - 1907), William Morris (1834 - 1896) and
William de Morgan (1939 -1917).
At the time, works of the Arts and Crafts movement were expensive and only available to the wealthy.
I may not understand well, though the wealthy Mander family, who had made their fortune by mass production, enabled by the Industrial Revolution, then collected works of the Arts and Crafts movement which criticized mass production, so I feel it is ironic to be there.

| ペンキ塗りやニスがけは、"マンダー・ブラザース/ Mander Brothers 社" によって施されました。 マンダー家/ Mander Family は、大英帝国時代に、 ペンキ塗りやニスがけで財をなし、のちに印刷業も始めた一家でした。 彼らは、ウォルヴァーハンプトンを小さな町から都市へ発展させた立役者です。 Mander Brothers was a paint and varnish manufacturer.
The Mander Family,
was to build a fortune from paint and varnish,
and later started a printing business.
The family was a driving force behind the evolution of Wolverhampton
from a small town to a city.
馬小屋の雰囲気が残っていますね。
The atmosphere of the stable remains, doesn't it?

(マンダー家は、過去に麦芽製造もしていました）
ウィリアム・ド・モーガン は、ウィリアム・モリスの生涯の友人でした。
残念ながら、時間がなくて、見ることができませんでした。
(メインの館を見た後に向かったのですが開館時間に間に合わなかったのです）
モリス関係は、英国に行くたびに、必ずどこかで出会います。
今回の渡英でも、すでに、マートン・アビーのモリスの仕事場があったところへ行っていました。
その時のことは下記。

In the old Malthouse (was old brewery) in the grounds, today there is a collection of William de
Morgan : ★.
(Mander family also made malt in the past)
William de Morgan was William Morris's lifelong friend.
Unfortunately,
I didn't have enough time to see the collection.
(I
went after seeing the main building, but it was too late.)
I always seem to come across something relating to Morris every time I go to Britain.
Even in this trip to Britain, I had already been to where Morris's workplace was located in Merton Abbey.
