マーゲイト/ Margate を去り、ドーバーに向かいます。

その途中にある'聖オーガスティン十字標' / 'St. Augustine's Cross'

に寄ることにしました。

We left Margate, heading for Dover.

I decided on going to see 'St. Augustine's Cross

which was before Dover.

ここはイングリッシュ•ヘリテッジが管理しています。

ローマから派遣された聖オーガスティンが英国到着後(597年)、

移動の前に、30人の使者とともに

ここでミサをあげたと言われています。

English Heritage looks after here. 

They say that St.Augustine arrived in Britain in 597, 

he held mass here with 30 followers before moving on.

内容はわかりません。

They are in Latin.
I do not know the meaning. 

静かなところです。
聖オーガスティンがここで仲間とともに祈りを
捧げている様子が浮かびます。

Here is a quiet place.
I could imagine  St.Augustine praying with the followers here.

周囲は麦畑
英国で、キリスト教徒がこの麦のように
たくさんの数になったのかと考えさせられました。

Surrounding is a Field of Barley. 
This gave me the thought that the number of Christians became 
like this barley.
