新井 淳一氏は、私がタマ美大に行く前にデッサンを習った

新井リコ先生のご主人で、先生からのお手紙でこの展覧会を知り、２人分のチケットも同封されていました。

新井氏とは面識が殆どありませんでしたが(一度お会いしたかも？）、

これは、もう、行かなくちゃ！.......

私の留学先のバーススパ大学のテキスタイルの先生の

ティムパリーウィリアム氏が日本で新井氏に教えを受けていて、もちろん、

リコ先生も彼を知っていました。

私の留学生活は結構しんどいものでしたが、その中でティムが気軽に声をかけてくれて、ほっとしたものです。

世の中は、狭いな〜とバースで感じました。

彼は日本語も結構話せますし、新井氏がRCA(Royal Collage of Art: 英国立美術大学)から2011年に名誉博士号を受けた時も、英国で何かと世話をしてくれたそうです。

Before Tama Art University, I had drawing lessons from Riko Arai : Riko Sensei who is a lithograph artist.

Junici Arai is her husband.

She send me a letter in March mentioning the exhibition and also including tickets for two people.

Although I haven't seen him (maybe only met once?), I wanted to go!

When I was in Bath Spa University I met Tim Parry Williams who is a senior lecturer in textiles.

He had lessons from Mr. Arai in Japan, so of course Riko Sensei knew him. 

While I studied in Bath Spa University  I had a very hard time.

Tim talked to me light-heratedly which made me relieved. 

I felt it was a small world in Bath.

I think Tim speaks Japanese, and when Mr Arai received an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art, Tim helped him in Britain.

私は昨年の個展後は、足の手術、リハビリ、家探し、引っ越しなどの事柄に追われる日々で、随分と長くアートに触れていなかったので、この展覧会は、刺激になりました。

刺激という言葉は使いましたが、テキスタイルの作品のせいか、柔らかく、穏やかに、創作意欲を揺り動かされているような印象でした。

I hadn't done anything directly for art after my last exhibition; I had my operation, rehabilitation, looked for a new house and settling in, so this exhibition was stimulation for me.

Even though I use a word 'Stimulation', I felt my creative urge was shaken gently softly  because his work is textiles.

巨人のあごが動いているので
'シンギングマン：歌う男'
なんですね。
それに'オペラシティ'ですしね。

The Jaw of the Giant moves, 
so it is 'Singing Man', isn't it?
And also there is 'Opera City'.

この巨人はこの桜を見ているのかな？
The Giant might look at this Sakura:  Cherry blossom.
