Golden Week (Japanese National Holidays: Friday to Wednesday,
the last weekend in April), we did not go anywhere specially, however, we went to one neighbour's Flower sale and another's Garage sale with Cafe.

彼(R)は珈琲を飲み、私は手作りの和菓子付きの抹茶のセットを
美味しくいただきました。

イングリッシュガーデン風の庭で、パラソルの下、お茶をたてていただき、テーブルには葉の上に直接実のような花がつく”葉いかだ”
という珍しい植物が飾られていました。
ちょっと野点(のだて)風を思わすセッティング。
お茶の作法も知らないし、野だての席にも出席したことがない
私には、ちょうど良いお楽しみの場だったように思います。
We enjoyed the Cafe. My boyfriend: R, drank a cup of coffee and I had a Matcha tea with handmade Japanese sweets, while sitting under a large parasol in their English-style garden.
I felt the setting was like NODATE; Matcha (green powder tea) taken outside.
There was a chic flower arrangement of a plant whose tiny flowers grow in the middle of the leaves!
I do not know about traditional tea ceremony, manners and I haven't joined NODATE, the casual setting suited me.

（実際にはMuseum of Lakeland Life & Industryの一部）
は、閉じられていました。
今回はどうしても行きたくて計画に組み入れました。
が、観光地の美術館やセンターというのは、がっかりさせられるというか、笑えるというか……。
だからあまり期待してはいけないのかもしれません。

We told M san about our planned summer trip to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
So she envied our trip to the Lake District.
Actually we are only going to Kendal, because on our earlier visit in Feb 2007 the Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry was closed.
Our reason for wanting to visit this museum is for the Arthur Ransome exhibits.
Sometimes exhibits or centres leave us disappointed, so maybe
I should not expect too much.
3)ヨークシャーデイル / Yorkshire Dales
今年の夏の旅行をヨークシャーデイルをメインにした理由は、
湖水地方が”つばめ号とアマゾン号”のロケーション地であるように、ヨークシャーデイルはファンタジー作家のウィリアムメインのいくつかの作品のロケーション地であるからです。
メインのこれらの作品もアーサー王の伝説が関係しています。
アーサー王関係は英国中どこにでもあるようなものですけれど……。
4) 花 /Flowers
花のセールでは、自分の好みと彼の好みが混ざった花の購入をしました。
自分の好みではないものも、私にとっては花なら比較的受け入れやすく、また違ったセンスのものを取り入れるのも自分としては巾を広げるような気がしていいなと思います。

The flowers were a mixture of mine and my boyfriend's tastes.
It is easier for me to accept flowers than some other things which are not exactly my taste.
And also I feel that sometimes I should accept different senses which make my world wider.

湖水地方はピーターラビットの故郷としての方が有名かもしれませんが、今の私には”つばめ号とアマゾン号”の方が印象が強いです。
原書で読み、セーリングにも詳しい彼女からセーリングの翻訳が十分ではないと聞きました。
日本語版を読み、セーリングにも詳しくない私には十分楽しめる

This lady has read "Swallows and Amazons" and other books by Arthur Ransome in English.
We talked about the Lake District and the Norfolk Broads.
The Lake District is more famous in Japan for the Peter Rabbit books than for the "Swallows and Amazons" series, however, for me, the "Swallows and Amazons" series is more important.
She said that the translations of the series in relation to sailing are not as good as the original English, although it is still enjoyable for me who hasn't read the originals and I do not know about sailing.
I love the series very much!

日頃、馴染みのない世界ですし、珍しい羊さんたちを実際見られるのは楽しいことで、畜産関係の展示も丁寧に見ました。

Merlin Centre

For example, we had a trip to Wales in 2008, the theme was King Arthur and Merlin, so our plan was to visit the Merlin Centre just outside Camarthen town, apparently the birth-place of Merlin.
This so-called "The Merlin Centre" in fact turned out to be a small exhibition about farming set in a farmyard building.
It did have a couple of references to Merlin, like in the above photograph showing a dead tree trunk in the centre of Camarthen.

I am not used to the farming world, so I looked at the exhibition carefully.

もしかしたらマーリンが君に変身して今も生きているの？
そうしたらやはりここはマーリンセンターという名に
ふさわしい所ですね。
And I could not be angry when I looked at Jacob's face,
even though I still cannot see the connection between Merlin and you sheep.
Ah yes!
Merlin has been transformed into this Jacob sheep,
I see.
Now the name fits the exhibition! |

花のセールでは、自分の好みと彼の好みが混ざった花の購入をしました。
自分の好みではないものも、私にとっては花なら比較的受け入れやすく、また違ったセンスのものを取り入れるのも自分としては巾を広げるような気がしていいなと思います。
花は日当りが必要なものばかりと聞きました。
日陰の庭に地植えができないので、２階のデッキで鉢植えにして育てることになります。
土も鉢も十分にないので、これからネット購入をするつもりです。
スローペースな私（達）なので、いつになったら実現するか……？ 笑

Flowers
We bought flowering plants in a neighbour's one-day plants sale.
The flowers were a mixture of mine and my boyfriend's tastes.
It is easier for me to accept flowers than some other things which are not exactly my taste.
And also I feel that sometimes I should accept different senses which make my world wider.
I heard the flowers need direct sun, so I decided that I would plant the flowers in pots which can be on the upstairs deck, because I think our garden is too shady.
I do not have enough potting compost and pots, I will order them from the Internet.
We do everything slowly, so when can we plant them in pots?
