23rd of May

Cherry
Unfortunately, Yoshino Cherry's fruits cannot be eaten.

23rd of May
On this day, we set up a blueberry net.
About the set up, below.

The background of Yoshino Cherry is Sagami Bay.

The planting layout of the entire garden is not planned.

It is planted randomly depending on the season of the year.

No matter how many years have passed, there is no 'feeling of completion'.

Moreover, my favourite type of flowers tend to come from the 'field', therefore it doesn't look like a garden.

But, well, as such, the surviving plants will secure their place, and if the plants like the environment, they will spread little by little every year.

It's not the way to plan well and create a beautiful garden, but I think it suits me.

When I write in this way, I feel that it is common to my own way of creating.

Rock Garden?
It's a scene reminiscent of a rock garden,
but it's not really as big as a rock garden.

Last year, after the flower season was over,
my husband R replanted this in the ground from a pot.
I'm glad that it bloomed here unexpectedly this year.

This blue flower was also in a pot last year.
Originally it was a plant for ground cover,
but R was particular about potted plants.
It is true that many flowers bloomed when potted,
but so far only a few have bloomed planted in the ground.

Bletilla Striata
Our Bletilla Striata season is over.
This flower is the last  Bletilla Striata  ...
See you next year!

Christmas Rose
I was surprised that there are still Christmas Rose flowers.
I said flowers, although this part is actually a calyx.

24th of May
  Flowers of Neighbourhood

 Garden of K san
It seems that new irises were planted on the edge of the garden.
If they take root and spread, there will surely be beautiful.
I often admire her planning and feel lucky to share the results.
Thank you very much!

Wiki

Brunfelsia Latifolia
Brunfelsia Latifolia is located at the side of the entrance
opposite our house.
White and purple flowers are in full bloom before I know it.
The flowers begin to bloom and turn dark purple,
then light purple, and finally white.
There seems to be a strong scent, but I haven't experienced it yet.

 Kiss Me Quick" があり、

"Dream Name"
The Language of Flower is "Dream Name",
"lucky",
"Enthusiastic", and "Flirtatious Person".

The English name is "Kiss Me Quick",
and there is also "Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow".
The mystery of the changing colours of the flowers will surely provide various ideas about this plant.

Lucky!
This Yoshino cherry is on a public road,
and large branches grow over our garden.

"Petunia Sophia Jewels"

It reminds me of swallow chicks opening their mouths.

Flower!
There are three "Maple Leaf Geranium" in pots in our garden.
This is the first flower this year of this plant.

Miyako-wasure : Miyamayomena

 White Lobelia in Pot
The White Lobelia did not bloom easily
even though the lobelia of other colours planted
in the ground were in full bloom.
I'm glad that it's finally starting to bloom.

Aquilegia
 Aquilegia (Columbine) bloomed
at the end of April and are still in bloom.
Of course, they are not the same flowers, but I was surprised
because I didn't expect the Aquilegia to bloom for such a long time.
Looks like a fairy lantern.

Cherry Sage
Cherry sage, which was full of leaves, began to bloom.
It bloomed a while ago, but it didn't bloom continuously.
Finally, multiple flowers have begun to bloom one after another.
Originally, this cherry sage was in a neighbour's garden in Nikaido
where we used to live, and we were given it.

Salvia Genus
I found out that Cherry Sage is a Salvia Genus.
The scientific name is Salvia Microphylla.
It is  an evergreen shrub found in the wild in southeastern Arizona
and in the mountains of eastern, western and southern Mexico.
In English, it is sometimes called Blackcurrant Sage.

White and Red
Although they are the same plant,
the proportion of white and red of each flower is very different.

White hydrangea should bloom.

Mountain Hydrangea
Although it is small, it has multiple flowers.

Calla Lily
Before I knew it, it has grown so well like this.

Giant Hosta
It seems that this is growing up.

Preparation
A. 寒天 / Agar

Kanten : Agar
(23rd of May)
I made Kanten : Agar for the first time.
From my early age, my grandmother and mother used agar to make
 Mitsumame and Milk Agar.
I have used jelly powder and jelly sheets,
but this was the first time I used agar to make sweets.

Coffee Agar
I made plain agar and coffee agar.

Red Field Peas
Red Field Peas were soaked in water overnight.
Like agar, it was the first time I used red field peas for cooking.
The next day, I boiled them twice and cooked them
 in a pressure cooker.
After turning off the heat, I added an appropriate amount of salt
and waited for it to cool.

Done!

Mitasumame
(24th of May)
Agar, red field peas and fruits were served in bowls.
I think this is 'Mitsumame'...
I made it for the first time!

Mitsumame
In March of this year, I visited a long-established sweets shop,'Nagon Shiruko' in Kamakura, Japan with my husband R for the first time.
About "Nagon Shiruko", below.
Even though I'm not so interested in sweets, I enjoyed 'Mitsumame' very much there and would like to eat it again.

R became interested in agar and knew it is possible to make agar at home.

After that, we bought stick agar, but didn't get the chance to make it for about two months.

Finally, now, 'Mitsumame' has been realized.

According to Wiki about Mitsumame,
"Mitsumame (みつまめ) is a Japanese dessert.
It is made of small cubes of agar jelly, a white translucent jelly made from red algae or seaweed.
The agar is dissolved with water (or fruit juice such as apple juice) to make the jelly.
It is served in a bowl with boiled red field peas (or sometimes azuki beans), often gyūhi, Shiratama dango and a variety of fruits such as peach slices, mikan, pieces of pineapples, and cherries. "

Mitasumame
I used a commercially available black syrup.
It was lovely.
My husband R was also pleased.

     Coffee Agar Knickerbocker Glory

Coffee Agar
Knickerbocker Glory
(25th of May)
Coffee agar made from strong coffee is an adult taste.
I was worried about R's reaction
because he has 'Children's Tongue', but he seemed to like it.
I also enjoyed it.
The black specks in the cream are vanilla.
He also sprinkled tangerine syrup and added a chocolate.

I used the champagne glasses for the first time in a long time.

Sundae
Parfait。

Parfaits are Knickerbocker Glory in Britain,
Sundae in the United States, and Parfait in France.
Strictly speaking, there may be differences,
but it seems that they are generally called
as above depending on the country.
I like the sound of 'Knickerbockers Glory'.

 R's Desk
(24th of May)
R's desk doubles as the dining table.
He looks at the seasonal flowers and the trees swaying in the wind.
He drinks when he wants to drink coffee or tea.
R is happy to work at this desk.

 Dusky Thrush
(22nd of May)
There was a Dusky Thrush on the roof next door.
Do you find it?
These photographs were taken with my i-phone.

Is this a Dusky Thrush?
I usually photograph with my Nikon camera,
but recently I've been photographing with my i-phone more often.
I'm happy with the photos I took with my i-phone.
But if I am at a distance from the subject and
want to use zoom, the Nikon camera is much better!
It was when I photographed this Dusky Thrush that I realized it.
By the way, I believe this bird is a' Dusky Thrush',
however, R said it is not!

Net for Blueberry, 18th and 23rd of May, 2021

Contents
First Stage
Second Stage

First Stage

Set of Net Poles
(18th of May)

First Stage
Last year, my British husband R experienced Japan's summer for the first time.

He also experienced the blueberry fruiting season for the first time.

It's acceptable for small birds to eat, but squirrels, which have grown in number over the last few years, eat quite a lot.

He then fought with a few squirrels over the blueberry fruit, holding a broom (Laugh).

This year he wanted to buy a net to protect the blueberry fruit and we did.

He says he likes the blueberry bush the most in the garden.

From the harvested fruit, I make jam, which is also his favourite.

After Framework
We haven't attached the last two poles completely yet.
It is not possible to protect the fruit as it is.
The reason is that this net set can be easily entered
from the sides, and the mesh is large.
We bought a new fine mesh net and decided to
fix the poles completely when installing the net.

Second Stage

Dragon Gate
(23rd of May)
We bought a net with a fine mesh and installed it.
At the entrance for picking,
we weighted the net down with my own 'White Dragon' tiles.
I dropped one and broke it while I was working.
(It was already cracked.)
But thanks to that, I got the idea of 'Dragon Gate'.

White Dragon
These tiles were made before studying in Britain.
'Shigaraki Soil' is used, and 'Shino Glaze' is used for the glaze.
There is a groove on the back of the tiles
so that they can be hung on a wall.
I made them in a ceramics lesson class,
'Yellow Clay' in Ebisu, Tokyo.
Saito Sensei helped me a lot.
Thank you very much.

The dragon tiles were made as part of
'Dragon Tile Series' ('White Dragon', etc.) and exhibited in
"Coonie's Dragon 2003" (Pinpoint Gallery, Tokyo).

The two dragon tiles in the photo were cracked on the surface and so were not exhibited.

From Back
For the weight, we use branches and damaged pots.
The height of the lower left and right poles is different
according to R's intention.
I don't know why.

Branch and Pot
Weights
Organic weights and artificial poles and nets
make me feel this is an objet
.

I quite like this part.

Cheers!
Well, will our net protect blueberries?
Anyway, it was completed,
so we drank beer to celebrate.
