1) 蒲生橋 / Kamō Bridge
9月26日 ~ 10月1日、私と姉Yは、鹿児島県へ旅行しました。
'蒲生のクス' は、日本最大の巨木で、樹齢1600年です。
'蒲生のクス' については前回のセクションです(下記)。

Kamō Bridge
From 26th of September to 1st of October I and my sister Y
travelled to Kagoshima Prefecture.
Today, on the 29th, we went sightseeing from Kagoshima City to Kirishima Hot Springs Village with Kagoshima Kotsu Taxi's driver, S San.
After seeing 'Kamō no Kusu' in Arira City, we headed to Arc de Triomphe of Yamada.
'Kamō no Kusu' is the largest tree in Japan and is 1600 years old.

日本最大の巨木を守ってくれてありがとうございます。
'Kamō no Kusu' is the pride of the locals, and I feel that the tree is loved by the locals.
Thank you for protecting Japan's largest giant tree.
2) 山田の凱旋門 / Arc de Triomphe of Yamada
なぜここに、こんな門が！と驚くロケーションです。
これを建てた人たちは、何かに突き動かされ、真剣に取り組んだのでしょう。
けれど、なんとなく、悲しい気持ちにもなります。

Arc de Triomphe of Yamada
Why is there such a gate here? it is a surprising location.
The people who built this must have been motivated by something and worked seriously.
However, somehow it also makes me feel sad.
'The Triumphal Arch', a rarity in Japan, built by the Yamada Village Military Association in 1906 to commemorate for the safe return of those who served in the the Russo-Japanese War (1904 - 1905) from Yamada Village (at that time).

The upper part is built in an arch shape, and a stone 60cm high and 121cm wide is set in the centre.
The 4.7m high and 4.88m wide pillars are enshrined with 1,200 sleeping heroes of the Satsuma Rebellion (1877), the First Sino-Japanese War (1894 -1895), the Russo-Japanese War, and the Greater East Asia War (1941 - 1945).

3) 鹿児島のお墓 / Graves in Kagoshima
鹿児島の人々は、お墓を大切にし、お墓参りも頻繁にするのだと聞きました。
よって、お墓に飾る花を切らすことなく、供えるそうです。
義兄、Yの夫のNYは、通常関東に住んでいるので、頻繁には、お墓参りができません。
なので、どなたかに、定期的にお花を添えるように依頼しています。
昨日、私達が、お墓参りしたときも、お花が添えられていました。
水鉢の大きさが関東の3倍くらいあり、びっくりしました。
私たちが駅前の花屋さんで用意した花束は、その水鉢に比べると小さく、水鉢の中で、風に吹かれてくるくるまわって、ちょっと滑稽でした。
自分の無知さに恥入りながらも、その滑稽さについ笑ってしまいました。
鹿児島の花の需要量は日本で一番だそうで、その訳はお墓まりに多量に使用するからなのです。
自宅の庭でお墓参り用のお花を育てる人も多くいるそうです。

Graves in Kagoshima
We heard that the people of Kagoshima take great care of their graves and visit them frequently.
Therefore, it seems that the flowers that decorate the grave will be offered without running out.
My brother-in-law, Y's husband, NY, usually lives in the Kanto region, so he can't visit his family grave frequently.
So he asks someone to add flowers regularly.
Even when we visited the grave yesterday, there were flowers.
I was surprised to see that the size of the water bowl is about three times those in Kanto.
The bouquet we prepared at the flower shop in front of the station was narrower than the water bowls, and it was a little funny to see the flowers blown around in the water bowl.
Even though I was ashamed of my ignorance, I couldn't help but laugh in spite of myself.
The demand for Kagoshima flowers is said to be the highest in Japan, and the reason is that large amounts are used for graves.
It seems that many people grow flowers for visiting graves in their gardens

I'm surprised that this scenery is everyday, not just for Obon or Higan special occasions.
