1) 徒歩圏内 / Within Walking Distance
初日は、晩御飯は枕崎駅周辺の居酒屋さんでとる予定でした。
私がリサーチし、候補にあげていた、1軒目も2軒目も臨時休業でした。
9月3,4週末が祝日と重なり、人出も多く、お店もきっと忙しかったのでしょう。
一般の連休があけた今日から、お店は連休でした。
まあ、私たちが連休明けの時期に、この旅行を入れたのも、連休明けで人出が少なくなるだろうと推測したからでした。
宿泊した枕崎ステーションホテルのフロント係の女性に相談し、紹介してもらったのが喜久屋食堂でした。
そして、予約の電話もしてもらえました。
予約の段階で、満席に近かったのですが、無理矢理入れていただいたようでした。
ホテルからは徒歩圏内、枕崎の街には不慣れで、すでに夕闇が来ていましたが、二人だったので、歩いて行きました。

Within Walking Distance
My sister Y and I travelled to Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture.
On the first day, I had planned we have dinner in Izakaya : Japanese pub around Makurazaki Station.
The first and second pubs I had researched and listed as candidates were temporarily closed.
The 3rd and 4th weekends of September overlapped with national holidays, so the shops must have been busy with many people.
The pubs were closed from today after the general holidays.
Well, the reason we made this trip after the holidays was because we assumed that there would be fewer people after the holidays.
Kikuya Dining : Kikuya Shokudo was introduced to me by the lady at the front desk of the Makurazaki Station Hotel where we stayed.
The lady made a reservation for us.
At that time, it was almost full, but they would try to make our table.
Within walking distance from the hotel.
We were unfamiliar with the town of Makurazaki and it was already dark, but since it was the two of us, we walked.

Although it is a dining, there are many kinds of shōchū available.  私たちは焼酎を飲み慣れていないので、 初日の晩は控えました。 私はビールを飲み、Yは温かいお茶だけでした。 We are not used to drinking shōchū, so we refrained from drinking it on the first night. I had beer and Y only had hot tea. |
According to Wiki about shōchū,
"Shōchū (Japanese: 焼酎) is a Japanese distilled beverage.
It is typically distilled from rice, barley, sweet potatoes, buckwheat, or brown sugar, though it is sometimes produced from other ingredients such as chestnut, sesame seeds, potatoes, or even carrots."
2) 気遣い / Concern
最初はカウンター席につきましたが、しばらくして、お店の方から座敷席を勧められました。
私たちはカウンターでも良かったのですが、お店の方が
「せっかくですから...空きましたから...」
と勧めるので、その暖かな配慮に感謝しつつ、移りました。
ですが、そこには、タバコの匂いが溜まっていて、やっぱり、カウンター席が良かったと姉共々思いつつ、お店の方の親切さを思い、座敷席に留まりました。
関東ではかなりの確率で、飲食店の屋内禁煙の法律は行き渡っていますが、地方ではまだそれほどではないのかもしれません。
それでも、チェーンスモーカーのような吸い方をする方がいなかったのは、ラッキーでした。
もしかすると、私達が旅行者だったので、喫煙するお客さんが気遣ってくれたのかもしれません。

Concern
At first, we sat at the counter seats, but after a while, we moved to the tatami room.
We were fine at the counter, but the staff recommended,
"You might as well get a better table, because I've got room for you..."
so we moved while appreciating the warm consideration.
However, the smell of cigarettes was accumulating there, and although my sister and I thought that the counter was better, we stayed in the tatami room because of the kindness of the staff.
Still, we were lucky that no one smoked as a chain smoker.
Perhaps, because we were travellers, they might have smoked less for us.

3) 甘いお醤油 / Sweet Soy Sauce
九州のお醤油は甘いと聞いていました。
甘い醤油には甘さの段階があり、鹿児島や宮崎の南へ行くほど甘いという予備知識もありました。
Yの夫NYは鹿児島出身だったので、彼女はすでにその甘さを知っていました。
お店でも、刺身を出されたときに、甘い醤油か通常の醤油のどちらを使用するか聞かれ、私が答えを言う前に、
「普通の醤油はこれです」
と、普通の醤油の瓶を示しました。
察するに、鹿児島県外からの人の多くは、甘い醤油が苦手なのですね。
私は味を知らなかったので、甘い醤油を使いました。
覚悟して使用したせいか、思ったよりは甘くなく、お刺身をいつもとは違った味で楽しむことができました。
Yは通常の醤油を使いました。

Sweet Soy Sauce
I heard that Kyushu soy sauce is sweet.
There was also my preliminary knowledge that soy sauce has levels of sweetness, and the further south you go in Kagoshima and Miyazaki, the sweeter it gets.
Y's husband NY was from Kagoshima, so she already knew the sweetness.
When we were served sashimi in the dining, we were asked if we would use sweet soy sauce or regular soy sauce, and before we could answer, the staff said,
"This is normal soy sauce."
and she showed a bottle of ordinary soy sauce.
My guess is that many people from outside Kagoshima don't like sweet soy sauce.
I didn't know the taste, so I used sweet soy sauce.
Perhaps because I was prepared to use it, it wasn't as sweet as I had imagined, and I was able to enjoy the sashimi with a different taste than usual.
Y used regular soy sauce.
4) 枕崎で最も古い食堂
The Oldest Dining in Makurazaki
このお店は、おそらく、私達が注文した軽い感じの食べ物よりは、がっつりと食べ応えあるものの方が得意のお店だと思います。
例えば、トンカツなどが得意なのです。
地元に愛される食堂ですものね。
ですが、この日の私たちの胃は、がっつりした食べ物を受け入れる状態ではありませんでした。

The Oldest Dining
I think this restaurant is probably better for filling and plentiful food rather than the light food we ordered.
For example, they are good at pork cutlets.
This dining is loved by the locals.
However, our stomachs weren't ready for heavy food that day.

Potato Salad
I wanted to eat vegetables, so I ordered this,
but it was so salty that we couldn't eat it all.
I understand that is the personality of this area or this dining.
いつもとは違う味、その土地の味が体験できて、楽しい食事でした。

It was a fun meal where we could experience a taste different from usual, the locality taste.
