2) 枕崎駅 / Makurazaki Station

関東の人間が、枕崎と聞いて、まず思うのは、'かつお(漁業)' でしょう。

私もそうでした。

ほかに、焼酎の 'さつま白波' の薩摩酒造 (サツマシュゾウ)があるのも、もしかしたら、知られているかもしれません。

そのような土地の町起こしの1つとして、アートを選んだのではないかと感じます。

私と姉Yは、鹿児島空港から枕崎への往路は、バスを利用し、帰路は電車を利用しました。

バスは、枕崎駅前バス停が終着停でした。

ホテルへチェックインする前に、枕崎駅を確認するために、寄りました。

無人駅で、券売機もなく、改札もありません。

使用済みの券を入れる小さな箱は見つけました。

どうやって電車に乗車するのか、疑問に思いつつ(おろおろしつつ)、その日は駅を離れました。

枕崎駅
枕崎駅 (マクラザキエキ) は、JRグループの最南端駅です。
1931年に南薩鉄道の駅として開業しました。
この駅舎は、2013年に完成しました。
レトロな感じの可愛らしい駅です。

Makurazaki Station
Makurazaki Station is the southernmost station of the JR Group.
It opened in 1931 as a station on the Nansa Railway.
This station building was completed in 2013.
It's a lovely station with a retro feel.

Makurazaki Station

When people in Kanto hear of Makurazaki, the first thing that comes to mind is 'Bonito (fishery)'.

I was the same.

You may also know that there is a Shōchū・'Satsuma Shiranami' produced by Satsuma Shuzo.

I feel that art has been chosen as one of the ways to revitalize the land.

From Kagoshima Airport to Makurazaki, I and my sister Y used a bus, and on the way back, we used a train.

The last stop of the bus was the Makurazaki Ekimae bus stop.

Before checking in to the hotel, I stopped by to check Makurazaki Station.

It is an unmanned station with no ticket vending machines and no ticket gates.

We found a small box for used tickets.

We left the station that day, wondering how we were going to get on the train.

現在、枕崎は、鰹節生産量は、日本一です。

Statue of a Dried Bonito Peddler (Left)
Currently, Makurazaki is Japan's largest producer of Katsuobushi.

"In the typhoon of 1893, 29 out of 60 bonito boats were lost, 

and many people died (411 people).

To help the bereaved families,

 peddlers began selling dried bonito."

According to Wiki about Katsuobushi,

"Katsuobushi (Japanese: 鰹節) is simmered, smoked and fermented skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis, sometimes referred to as bonito). 

It is also known as bonito flakes or broadly as okaka (おかか)."

この説明板は撮影しましたが、駅舎内に設置されている
山幸彦の像は撮影する気になりませんでした。

I took a picture of this explanation board,
but I didn't feel like taking a picture of the statue of
Yamasachihiko installed in the station building.

In Japan, since we were children, we have been familiar with the myths, "Umi-hiko and Yama-hiko".

The explanation board says Kago coast ; Makurazaki coast is a place related to "Umi-hiko and Yama-hiko".

According to Wiki About Yamasachihiko,

"Hoori (火折尊, Hoori no Mikoto), also known as Hikohohodemi no Mikoto (彦火火出見尊), is a figure in Japanese mythology, the third and youngest son of Ninigi-no-Mikoto and the blossom princess Konohanasakuya-hime. 

He is one of the ancestors of the Emperors of Japan as the grandfather of Emperor Jimmu. 

He is also known as Yamasachi-hiko (山幸彦)."

よかったとちょっと後悔しています。

日本の神様というよりも、'西洋の何か' に見えます。
ちなみに、この神様の山彦は、
神武天皇 (初代天皇) の祖父です。

It looks like 'something from the West' rather than a Japanese God.
By the way, this God Yama-hiko is the grandfather of
 Emperor Jinmu (the First Emperor).

建物上を泳ぐかつおが微笑ましいです。

The design is very Makurazaki.
The bonitos swimming above the building made me smile.

正面が宿泊した枕崎ステーションホテルです。
右下が枕崎駅の駅舎 (焦茶の屋根)です。
ホテルは駅の目の前です。

On the lower right is the station building of 

Makurazaki Station (brown roof).

The hotel is in front of the station.

ホテルのガラス壁に『第3回枕崎国際芸術賞展』
が貼られていました。
あとで知りましたが、このホテルもこの展覧会の
スポンサーの1つでした。

Poster
"The 3rd Makurazaki International Art Award Exhibition" 
was pasted on the glass wall of the hotel.
As I found later, this hotel was also one of the sponsors
of this exhibition.
