1) あやめ / Ayame :  Iris Sanguinea

お隣のKさんの庭は、広さも十分あり、植物のレイアウトが整っています。

季節季節の花々もきらすことなく咲き、彼女の計画性に感心させられます。

私と夫Rはその恩恵にあづかり、彼女の庭からできた梅で作った

ジャムもいただき、具体的な恩恵にもあづかっています。

また、Kさんから、植物についても教わることが多く、彼女は、私の植物の先生のような気がします。

いつもいつもありがとうございます。

今の時期はあやめ (菖蒲、文目、綾目) が見事です。

K San's garden next door is large enough and the layout of the plants is in order.

Seasonal flowers bloom continuously, and I am impressed with her planning.

I and my husband R enjoy the benefits, and have received her jam made from plums  from her garden, so we are also enjoying the specific benefits.

Also, I often learn about plants from her , and I feel like she is my plant teacher.

アヤメとショウブは違う植物ですが、漢字では同じ
'菖蒲' なんですね〜。
知りませんでした。

Ayame : Iris

Ayame and Sweet Flag are different plants, 

but they are the same '菖蒲' in Kanji.

I did not know.

2) ショウブ / Sweet Flag 

ショウブ
ショウブ (菖蒲) が、自然界にある時は、
私には他の水辺の草と見分けがつきません。
5月に店先にショウブ湯の材料として出されて初めてこれが、
'ショウブ' などだと認識します。

When Sweet Flag (Acorus calamus) is in nature, 

I can't tell it apart from other waterside grasses.

In Japan, only when it is sold as a material for

 Shoubuyu : Sweet Flag Bath in May, 

can I recognize that it is Sweet Flag.

Wikiでは下のように説明されています。

"和名ショウブは、漢名の「菖蒲」に基づく。

古くは、アヤメグサ（アヤメ草）またアヤメといって、日本最古の和歌集『万葉集』にも登場する"

"奈良時代の聖武天皇の頃より端午の節句に使われ始め、武士が台頭してからは「しょうぶ」の音に通じるので「尚武」という字が当てられるようになり（勝負にも通じる）、軒先に魔除けとして吊るしたり、風呂に入れる習慣が伝えられてきた。"

'勝負'のことは、知っていましたが、尚武 (ショウブ/ 武道・武勇を重んじること) については知りませんでした。

また、漢方楽にも使われることも、今回知りました。

知らないことがたくさんあり、知らなすぎる自分に驚きます (笑)。

Sweet Flag 

In Japan, Sweet  Flag is fragrant from the whole foliage and has been used as Sweet Flag Bath for the 'Tango no Sekku'.

According to Wiki about 'Tango no Sekku',

"Tango no Sekku (端午の節句), also known as Ayame no hi (Iris festival), is one of the five annual ceremonies that were traditionally held at the Japanese imperial court called Gosekku."

Recently, Tango no Sekku is known as Boys' Day : Children's Day .

Sweet Flag is called 'Shobu' (菖蒲)  in Japanese, its pronunciation is the same as 'fight' (勝負) or 'Samurai Spirit ;  Military Spirit' (尚武), so in Samurai time : 10th to 19th centuries, it  has been a lucky thing, the habit of hanging Sweet Flag on the eaves as a talisman or taking a bath has been reported.

(尚武 / 'Shobu':  Respect for martial arts and courage)

According to Wiki about Children's Day,

"Children's Day (こどもの日, Kodomo no Hi) is a Japanese national holiday which takes place annually on May 5 and is the final celebration in Golden Week.

 It is a day set aside to respect children's personalities and to celebrate their happiness."

I didn't know 'Shobu' (尚武) means respect for martial arts and courage.

I also found out that Sweet Flag is used in Chinese medicine.

There are many things I don't know, and I'm surprised that I don't know so much (Laugh).
