| モッコウバラ 今年のモッコウバラ(木香茨、木香薔薇)は、元気です。 Lady Banks' Rose : Mokkou Rose This year's Lady Banks' Rose is fine.  由来 以前、英名 (Lady Banks' Rose) は、 英国の植物学者ジョゼフ・バンクス卿 (1743 -1820)の 妻・ドロテア・レディ・バンクスにちなんで名付けられたことを知りました。 その後、和名の由来を知りたく思っていて、 ようやくわかりました。 インド原産の多年草から作られる木香 (モッコウ)の香りに 似ていることに由来したのです。 Origins Previously, I found out that the rose is named for Dorothea Lady Banks, the wife of an English botanist, Sir Joseph Banks (1743 -1820). After that, I wanted to know the origin of the Japanese name, and finally I found it. It is derived from the fact that it resembles the scent of Costus : Mokkou, which is made from perennials native to India. |

 ナデシコ 'ナデシコ' を購入したつもりでした。 が、咲きはじめて、カーネーションなのかもと、思いました。 のちにカーネションもナデシコの1つであることを知りました。 ナデシコは古来から日本に生育し、カーネーションは 江戸時代初期以前にオランダを通じて日本にも伝来しました。 Dianthus : 'Nadeshiko' I intended to buy 'Nadeshiko' : Dianthus. However, when it started to bloom, I thought it was actually a carnation. Later, I found out that carnation is one of the dianthus family. Dianthus has grown in Japan since ancient times, and carnations were introduced to Japan through the Netherlands before the early Edo period.  ナデシコ・ジャパン サッカー日本女子代表チームの愛称は、ナデシコジャパン。 これは、ナデシコが女性を意味する(大和撫子/ ヤマトナデシコ) ことに由来するのだろうと思います。 Nadeshiko Japan The nickname of the Japan women's national football team is Nadeshiko Japan. I think this is because Nadeshiko means a woman : Yamato Nadeshiko in Japan. |
 文学 撫子の別の意味に、子供と常夏があります。 常夏の意味は『源氏物語』の和歌 ： 'なでしこのとこなつかしき色を見ばもとの垣根を人や尋ねむ' に由来します。 『源氏物語』は、紫式部（973または978頃 -1014または1031頃） によって11世紀初頭に書かれた日本文学の古典的な作品です。 Literature Another meaning of Nadeshiko is children and everlasting summer : Tokonatsu. The meaning of Tokonatsu comes from the waka poem of "The Tale of Genji". "The Tale of Genji"(Genji monogatari) is a classic work of Japanese literature, by Murasaki Shikibu (c. 973 or 978 – c. 1014 or 1031) in the early 11th century. |
