Is it Two Books or is it Three Books?
『サラバ!』[2014 /上下巻 /
を購入したのは、2017年でした。
本を読みたくなって何を買おうか迷った時に、『ダ・ヴィンチ』を
参考にすることが多くあります。
『ダ・ヴィンチ』(2015年1月号) の 'プラチナ本' になっていたので、この本を選びました。
その誌面で、『サラバ!』が第152回直木三十五賞を受賞、第12回本屋大賞2位であることを知りました。
今になって読む私は、何をするにもスローです。
上巻のカバーをめくると、偶然にも、ブックデザインが最近読んだ
と同じ、 鈴木成一 (1962 〜) デザイン室でした。
『蜜蜂と遠雷』については下記。
西 加奈子という作家の名前はなぜか知ってはいましたが、作品を読むのは初めてでした。
そして、上下巻ものだと思っていた小説が、上中下巻だと上巻を読み始めてから知り、自分のそそっかしさを笑いました。
中巻は本筋を補うスピンオフ的に出版されたのかと勝手に推測しました。
中巻を購入しようと思いましたが、文庫本しか出版されていませんでした。
本を並べると美しさにかけますが仕方ありません。
文庫本を注文しました。
文庫本到着後、ショックなことが！
実は、単行本2冊分が、文庫本3冊に別れて出版されたのでした。
なので、単行本2冊を持っていてば、読めば、文庫本中巻は必要なかったのです。
無駄な出費をしてしまい、上巻の読書中に、自分が本当にそそっかしいこと、自分のリサーチがいかに不十分であったかを知りました。
また一方で、これは幻冬舎の何か策略か？という疑いがむくむくとおきました (苦笑)。

Is it Two Books or is it Three Books?
I bought two books, "Saraba!" in Japanese : "Farewell!" in English in 2017.
When I want to read a book and wonder what to buy, I often refer to "DA VINCI" which is a monthly magazine that deals with book information published by KADOKAWA.
I chose these books because they were in "DA VINCI" (January 2015 issue).
In that magazine, I found out that "Farewell!" won the 152nd Naoki Prize and won the 12th Japan Booksellers' Award, the Silver Award.
I am reading now, I'm slow to do anything.
When I flipped the cover of the first volume, it happened that the book design is by Seiichi Suzuki (1962 ~) Design Room as recently I had read
"Mitsubachi to Enrai" in Japanese : "Listen to the Universe" in English

About "Listen to the Universe", below.
I had known the name of the author, Kanako Nishi, for some reason, but this is first time I read her work.
Then, when I started reading the first volume, I found out that the novel, which I thought was the first and the second Volumes, has another Volumes between the first and the second Volumes and laughed at my carelessness.
I guessed that the middle volume was published as a spin-off to supplement the main story.
I wanted to buy the middle volume, but only the paperback book was published.
When the books line up, they would not be beautiful, but I can't help it.
I ordered the paperback book.
After the paperback book arrived, something shocking!
In fact, the two hardback books were published as three separate paperback books.
So, if I had two books or if I read them, I didn't need the middle volume of the paperback books.
I wasted some money, and while reading the first volume, I realized that I am really careless and how incomplete my research was.
On the other hand, is this a publisher's trick? I was sceptical about it (Wry Smile).
My impressions of the books are the next section.
