'ヴィクトリア・アンド・アルバート博物館の小さい版' という印象を受けました。

私は、Holburne Museumをホルバーン美術館と訳しましたが、

ホルバーン博物館の方が適していたかもしれません。
建物は、英国指定建造物、1級に指定されています。

This is about the Permanent Collections of Holburne Museum.

I had my impression that it was a "small version of the Victoria and Albert Museum".
The building is designated as a Grade I listed.

ディアーナとエンデゥミオーン, 1752

ジョセフ・プルーラ (? - 1756)作

大理石

ローマの、狩猟、貞節と月の女神、ディアーナ(ダイアナ)が

美青年のエンデゥミオーン(エンディミオン)に恋する話が元になっています。

イタリアの彫刻家、ジョセフ・プルーラが1749年頃にバースに到着し、

アトリエを立ち上げました。

この作品が代表作です。

Diana and Endymion, 1752 : ★

By Giuseppe Plura : Joseph Plura (? - 1756),

Marble

It is based on the story of Diana,
a goddess of hunting, chastity, and the moon in Rome,

who falls in love with the beautiful young man Endymion.

Italian sculptor, Joseph Plurra arrived in Bath around 1749 and set up a studio.

This work is his masterpiece.

トマス・ゲインズバラ (1727-1788)画

油彩、キャンバス、1762-66

この絵は当初、夫婦のみでしたが、のちに、ゲインズバラは、

彼らの最初の子供を加筆し、夫人のドレスの色も変えました。

バイアム家はバースに住み、ゲインズバラはバースに16年間住みました。

バースには、ゲインズバラの名前に由来した、

'ザ・ゲインズバラ・バース・スパ ' ホテルがあります。

The Byam Family, 1762-66

Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788)

Oil on canvas, 1762-66

The painting was initially only for the couple, but later Gainsborough added their first child and also changed the colour of the wife's dress.

The Byam family lived in Bath and Gainsborough lived in Bath for 16 years.

Bath has the 'The Gainsborough Bath Spa ' hotel,
which is named after Gainsborough.

対の燭台 (ツイノショクダイ) : マーキュリーとプシュケー

1820年頃 / フランス

これはプシュケー (サイケ)です。

マーキュリー (メリクリウス)は、

ローマ神話のデイ・コンセンテス (Dei Consentes) の

一人であり、商人や旅人の守護神です。

プシュケーは、美しい人間の娘です。

それぞれ複数の神話に登場しますが、美術館では下の神話を紹介しています。

"マーキュリーは神々の使者として、キューピッドとの結婚のために

プシュケを天国に導きました。"

Pair of candelabra: Mercury and Psyche : ★

c 1820 / France

This is Psyche.

In Roman mythology Mercury is one of Dei Consentes and

the guardian deity of merchants and travellers.

Psyche is a beautiful human daughter.

Both in multiple myths, but the Museum introduces the myths below.

"Mercury, as the messenger of the gods, conducted Psyche to heaven

for her marriage to Cupid."

部屋の中心にあるケース / Case in Centre of Room

サンゴがついたような容器は、日本人女性の作品です。

ロイヤル・カレッジ・オブ・アートのパンフレットで

彼女の作品を見たことがあります。

残念ながら彼女の名前を覚えていません。

Vessel with coral-like additions is a work by a Japanese lady.

I've seen her work in a Royal Collage of Art brochure.

Unfortunately I don't remember her name.

'新しいエキゾチック’? / "New Exotic"?

ローレン・チャイルド (1965 ~ ) の絵から飛び出してきたようなバックです。
It is a bag that seems to have jumped out of a picture by Lauren Child (1965 ~).

陶芸界で、ルーシー・リー (1902 -1995) を知らない人はいないでしょう。
In the Ceramics world, there is nobody who does not know Lucie Rie (1902-1995).

好きです。/ I like them.

見る角度を変えると表情が変わるとことが立体の魅力だな〜と感じます。

I feel that the three-dimensional attractiveness is that
the expression of the work changes when the viewing angle is changed.

消費社会 / A Consumer Society

Posnett Gallery の一角で (もしかしたら Fletcher Gallery かもしれません)、

カリカチュア (風刺画) の展示がされていました。

裕福な街、バースならではの企画に感じます。

At one corner of Posnett Gallery (maybe Fletcher Gallery),
a caricature was exhibited.

I feel it's a unique project in Bath, a wealthy city.

私は風刺の作品制作は得意ではありませんが、
見るのは好きです。

I'm not good at making satire, but I like to see them.

マナー・ハウスなどに行くと、結構、風刺画が飾ってあります。

オーナーたちには、消費社会に身を置きつつも、それを風刺する絵を面白がる度量の広さがあったのでしょう。

そういえば、お城にはあまり風刺画は飾っていないように思います。

城主には風刺を受け入れる、楽しむ余裕がなかったということでしょうか？

If I go to manor houses or the like, there are quite a few caricatures.

The owners may have had a great deal of interest in paintings that satirize the consumer society while putting themselves in the consumer society.

Speaking of which, I don't think there is much caricature in castles.

Does it mean that the castle owner couldn't accept, enjoy, or afford satire?

B. 小さな美 / Small Beauty

ジオラマ、ドール・ハウス、箱庭など、私はミニチュアの世界が好きです。

私の中では、これらはファンタジーの世界に通じています。

Posnett Galleryの一角で、ミニチュアサイズの装飾品などの展示がされていたので、嬉しいい驚きでした。

私の写真では、オブジェの小ささがわかりづらいです。

その上、珍しいことに、美術館の説明に、サイズ表示がありません。

どれだけ小さいかは、想像してください。

Small Beauty

Diorama, dolls’ houses, miniature garden, etc. I like the world of miniatures.

For me, these are related to the fantasy world.

It was a nice surprise to see a display of miniature-sized ornaments in a corner of Posnett Gallery.

In my photographs, it's hard to see how small the objects are.

Moreover, unusually, there is no size indication in the museum description.

Please imagine how small they are.
