聖ヴィート大聖堂でもっとも有名なのは、ステンドグラスだと思います。

私が今まで見てきた教会や大聖堂の中でここのステンドグラスが一番見応えがありました。

I think the stained glass windows in St. Vitus Cathedral are their most popular attraction.

This Cathedral's windows are the most impressive stained glass I have seen.

聖ヴィート大聖堂のステンドグラスはどれも美しいですが、
これが一番有名かもしれません。

ミュシャのステンドグラスを初めて見ました。

アルフォンス・ミュシャは高校生から大学生くらいのときに大好きでした。
チェコ語ではムハまたはムッハと発音するようですが、
(音はここをクリック→「ムハ」または「ムッハ」)
私にとってはずっとミュシャ！

今もまあ好きな方で、画集も手放さず持っています。

All Stained glasses in St. Vitus Cathedra are beautiful,
although this might be the most famous.

It was the first time I saw Mucha's stained glass.

I did very much like Alphonse Mucha when I was in a high school and university.
In Czech they pronounce →★, although for me it has been Mucha!
Nowadays I like his work and still keep a Mucha picture book.

彼のステンドグラスは、他とかなり違います。

通常のステンドグラスは角張った印象が私にはあり、

それがまたステンドグラスらしさでもあります。

ですが、ミュシャのこれは、ふわ〜っとしたやわらかさがあり、

人々の表情や動きも豊かです。

丸みのあるライン、陰影表現がなめらかなグラデーションでなされ、

空間も彩色もトータルした窓全体を考慮しひとつの絵として調節されています。

大画面をひとつに調節する力量があるので、

幾何学模様も必要最小限です。

また黒いラインを多用して絵にインパクトを与える必要もありません。

一箇所にだけデザイン化された文字が配置されているのは

ポスターの手法に似ていて、彼の他の作品を想像させます。

彼はアールヌーボーを代表するグラフィックデザイナーであり、画家です。

His stained glass is quite different from others.

My impression of normal stained glass windows are angular,

so that this is their characteristic too.

However, this work by Mucha is softer, lighter and

the faces and poses of the people are very expressive.

The lines are round, shades gradations are smooth,

the space and the colours are considered and controlled

within the total window as one picture.

He had the ability to manage a big picture,

so that he used a minimum geometric pattern.

And also he did not have to use many black lines to give the picture impact.

The layout of and the designs of his letters are concentrated in one place

that is similar to a style of poster which reminds me his other works.

He was a graphic designer and a painter representing art nouveau.

この少年(下)はミュシャの息子さんがモデルだそうです。

I found out that the boy (below) is Mucha's son.

ステンドグラスだけでも豪華なのに、脇の壁一面に
絵が描かれています。

Even though just the stained glass is gorgeous,
still the adjacent walls are full of paintings.

あちらを見てもこちらを見てもステンドグラス。
それでも聖堂が大きいのでバランスは取れていると感じました。

Here, there and everywhere are stained glass windows.
However, the Cathedral is large, so I felt the balance is good.

北側の外部は地味ですが
Although the North outside is plain..

内部はきらびやかです。
Inside is glittering.

綺麗な螺旋階段の装飾
ステンドグラスと良く合っています。

It suits the stained glass.

ステンドグラスは、他の装飾品とよくマッチしていて、
なぜ教会や聖堂がステンドグラスを使用するのがわかります。
合う絵柄を職人さんが作っているとも言えるのかな？

The stained glass matches well with the other decorations,
I understand why churches and cathedrals often use them.
I might say that crafts-men or women made matching pictures?
