聖イジー (チェコ語 /Jiří ) とは、聖ゲオルギオス (古代ギリシア語 /εώργιος) であり、聖ジョージ (英語 / George) でもあります。
私にとっては、聖ジョージが一番馴染みがありますが、どの日本語表記を見ても、この教会は、'聖イジー 教会' (チェコ語；Bazilika svatého Jiří / 英語 ; St. Geroge Church ) (★)とされているので、ここではそれに倣います。
英語表記では、'The Basilica of Saint George'です。
'バジリカ / Basilica' とは、下記ウィキペディアより
"建築の平面形式のひとつで、中央の身廊の2辺ないしはそれ以上の辺を、側廊によって取り囲むものをいう。身廊と側廊は列柱によって分けられる。"

Name
St.George is εώργιος in Ancient Greek, Svatý Jiří in Czech.
For me, St.George is the most familiar form, although every Japanese notation is
'聖イジー 教会' : 'Jiří Church', so I follow it.
In English here is 'The Basilica of Saint George' : ★.
According to Wikipedia about Basilica : ★
"~ basilicas often contained interior colonnades that divided the space, giving aisles or arcaded spaces on one or both sides, with an apse at one end (or less often at each end), where the magistrates sat, often on a slightly raised dais.
The central aisle tended to be wide and was higher than the flanking aisles, so that light could penetrate through the clerestory windows."

ヴラチスラフ1世 / Vratislaus I (888頃 - 921 / 在位 915-921) が920年に建設し、
聖ジョージに捧げられました。
プラハ城内で2番めの教会であり、チェコで現存する最古の建物の教会になっています。
ヴラチスラフ1世はチェコの守護聖人となった聖ヴァーツラフ 1世 (907 - 935) の
父親です。
973年に、ベネディクト会の修道女のための修道院 (St. George Convent ) が隣に設立され、それと同時にこの教会は拡張されて、再建されました。
(ベネディクト会といえば、'修道士カドフェル'を思い出します)
1142年に起こった大火事の後に大規模な再建があり、現在のロマネスク様式の外観と主なアプス(後陣)と2本の尖塔が追加されました。
13世紀の前半には、'聖リュドミラ礼拝堂'が増設され、教会西側にはポーチコ(柱廊式玄関)が加えられました。
Additions and Reconstruction
The basilica was founded by Vratislaus I (c 888 - 921 / Region 915 - 921) in 920 and was dedicated to St.George.
This is the second church in Prague Castle and the oldest church existent building in Czech.
Vratislaus I was the father of Wenceslaus I (907 - 935) who became the patron saint of Czech.
When the convent for Benedictine nuns was founded in 973 the church was enlarged and reconstructed.
(Benedictine reminds me of 'Brother Cadfael')
The present Romanesque appearance of the church with main apse and two steeples dated from the time of the reconstruction carried out after the devastating fire which occurred in 1142.
In the 13th century, St. Ludmila Chapel was added to the church as well as a portico on its western side.
Here is a part of Malá Strana and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1992.

レリーフの下に金文字で S・Gとイニシャルが入っています。 チェコ語名のイジー(Jiří )よりも英語名のジョージ(George)を もとにしているのでしょうか？

彼らを表現するときに戦いの場面や甲冑を装っていることが多いからでしょうか？

| お菓子の家 この日(18日)は雨模様で、壁のレンガ色がより深い色になっていました。 教会正面は、早期バロック様式で身郎はロマネスク様式で建てられています。 バロックは16世紀末から17世紀にかけてヨーロッパに広まった様式で、 "劇的な流動性、過剰な装飾性" (Wikipediaより) を特色とします。 ロマネスクはゴシックより先行する10世紀末から12世紀に西ヨーロッパに ひろまった様式で、奔放な想像力による幻想的な性質を持ちます。 現在の聖ヴィート大聖堂 (1344年設立) が私にとっては重々しい ゴシックであるので、その後でこの教会は 'お菓子の家' のように見えます。巨大すぎますか？

Gingerbread House On the day I was there, it was rainy so the red brick colour wall became deeper in colour. This front church is built in early Baroque style and the Nave is Romanesque style. The Baroque style spread across Europe from the 16th Century to the 17th Century and its distinctive feature is dramatical mobility and excess decorations. The Romanesque style is earlier Gothic which was from the end of 10th Century to 12th Century in Western Europe and has romantic character with rampant imaginations. Present St.Vitus Cathedral (was founded in 1344) is Gothic in style which is heavy for me and I looked at the Cathedral before this church, so for me the church looked like a 'Gingerbread House'. Is it too big? |

The celling is made of wood which is similar to a wooden celling in the Old Palace. There are clerestory windows. |
