⓰ '庭と汽車'の旅 - 4) ボディアム城 / Trip for Gardens and Trains - 4) Bodiam Castle, 14th of August

1)駅からの道 / From Station to Castle

ボディアム駅
ケント&イースト•サセックス鉄道の南側の終点

Bodiam Station
This is the southern end of the Kent & East Sussex Railway.

駅からお城までの道にこんな素敵な橋があります。
There is a lovely bridge between the station and the castle.

この橋をおりて川沿いに立ちました。
この道を少し歩いてみようか迷いましたが、
とにかくお城をみようと思い、やめました。
その上、この日は精神的に元気がなかったので、
結局帰りも橋をおりることはしなかったのです。

I got off this bridge and stood up beside this river.
I could not decide if I would walk beside the river for a while,
anyway I would see the castle so I did not walk here.
And also I was not well mentally on this day,
so I just crossed the bridge on our way back.

英国には多くの護岸されていない小川や川があり、
羨ましいです。

There are many streams or rivers without manmade embankments in Britain,
I envy this country. (Japan often has concrete sides for streams)

2) お城への道 / In the Castle Grounds

英語のWikipediaにはボディアム城 / Bodiam Castleが載っていますが
日本版にはまだありません。
けれでも、このお城に関して詳しく日本語で
説明されたサイトを見つけました→★
ナショナル•トラストのサイト(英語)は→★
説明の多くで、このお城はロマンチックな古城とか
妖精の城とか言われています。
私の好みでゆくと、もっと遺跡っぽい方が好きです。
そしてまた、そこに語られている伝説類の方が歴史より好きです。
歴史もおもしろいけれど....

Many explanations about this castle describe
'Romantic Old Castle' or 'Fairytale Castle',
however, personally I like castles which are more ruined.
Moreover, I like the myths or legends of the land more than the history,
although I am still interested in the history.

1385年に、フランスからの侵略に対して、このお城は建てられました。
The castle was built in 1385 to defend against French invasion.

古い建物で窓や扉がかさなった場面を見つけると、

タイムトンネルのような気分になります。

When I find a view in which windows or doors are overlapped,

I feel that there is a time tunnel.

敷地内にこんな兵士、または王様の木彫があります。
There is a wooden soldier or a king in the grounds.

そしてまた、その立像のそばにワニか魚のモンスターもいます。
お城の歴史か伝説に関係するのかもしれませんが、
残念ながら私にはわかりません.....

And also there is a crocodile or a fish monster close to the figure.
Maybe it relates to some of the history or a legend here,
although unfortunately I do not know about it.

'湖上の城'とはこのことですね。
This really is 'A Castle on a Lake', isn't this?

正面
お城の看板からだいぶ歩いて、ようやくここに到着です。
まあ、わざわざ、遠いルートを選んだからということもあります。
この中に入るには、ナショナル•トラストのカウンターで
入場するためのチケットかわりのメダルをもらわなければいけません。
非会員の場合は買わなくてはなりません。

Front
Finally we got here, I felt it was far from the castle sign.
Well, maybe it was because we deliberately selected to go around the far side.
We must go to the National Trust Counter for Castle entry
and then we are given medals instead of tickets.
If you are not a member, you must buy them here.

馬に乗った騎士が思い浮かぶ....
I can imagine a knight on his horse here...

中に入ったと思ったら、ガイドから外でイベントが始まる告知があり、
また外へ出ました。
結局、私達は中へは戻らなかったのです。

Just as we came into the castle,
a guide told us of an event which would be starting outside soon,
so we left here at once.
Later, we did not come back here.
