1) ハウス•オブ•アグネス / House of Agnes  

A. デビット•コパフィールド / David Copperfield

カンタベリーでは、ハウス•オブ•アグネス / House of Agnesに泊まりました。

一見、ホテルのようですが、B&Bです。

『デビット•コパフィールド』(1849 ~1850 / チャールズ•ディケンズ, 1812 -1870) の中に、この建物は登場すると、B&Bは説明しています。

主人公のデビットが物語の最後に結婚した女性が 'アグネス' で、辛い人生を送って来たデビットが幸せになるのでした。

随分前に読んだので、詳細は覚えていません。

この建物のことも、記憶にもちろんありません。

暗めの小説ですが、私は『クリスマス•キャロル』(1843)よりは好きであったという記憶があります。

David Copperfield

In Canterbury, we stayed in 'House of Agnes'.

It looks like a hotel, although it is B&B.

They say that 

'The House of Agnes is Grade Two 'Star' Listed and dates back to the 15th Century. It was referred to by name in Charles Dickens’ novel ‘David Copperfield’ as the House of Agnes Whitfield who eventually became David’s second wife.'

I read the book a long time ago and I do not remember the details, of course, I do not remember about this building. 

In my memory,  "David Copperfield"(1849 ~1850/ Charles Dickens, 1812 -1870) is quite gloomy, however, I do like it more than "A Christmas Carol" (1843).

古いセンスと新しいセンスが混合されています。

日本で言うと、古民家を現代風にしているセンスに

似ている気がします。

It is mixed with old and new sense.

I feel the moderinizing style is similar to 
many old houses : KOMINKA in Japan.

B. 部屋/ Rooms

カンタベリー市内を観光するには便利な場所にあり、徒歩で、カンタベリー大聖堂や聖オーガスティン修道院に行く事ができます。

B&Bの本館は、15世紀の宿泊用の建物で、現在8つのベッドルームになっています。

それぞれの部屋に都市の名前がつけられています。

なんといっても、泊まりたいのがカンタベリールームでしょう、やっぱり！

パリとか、ベニスとか、東京というのもあります。

それら部屋が、基本的にはここに泊まる価値があると、私は思いますが、私達にはコスト的に無理はあり、裏庭の15世紀には厩舎であった部分を、'New Stable'と呼ぶ別棟にした部分の部屋に泊まりました。

因に同様の部屋は８つあります。

建物の右にあり、もともと馬のためものなので、狭いです。

 It is to the right of the building,
and is it narrow because basically it was for horses.

I was surprised by the space, it was larger than I thought. 

Rooms

Here is convenient for Canterbury sightseeing, we can walk to Canterbury Cathedral and St. Augustine's Abbey.

The B&B's main building was an Inn in the15th century and now it has 8 bedrooms.

The rooms have city names, for example, Paris, Venice, Tokyo. 

When all is said and done, I would stay in 'Canterbury Room', of course!

The rooms could be value if you stay here, however, for us, they are too expensive so we stayed in a room in an annex which they call 'New Stable Rooms' in their back garden.

This was the site of stables in the 15th century and now there are 8 bedrooms.

私達は写真の建物の、最初のドアの部屋に泊まりました。
同様の建物がもうひとつあります。
We stayed in the first room in photograph's building.
There is another similar building.

耳栓
バスルームの向こう側は列車が走っています。
ちょっとネガティヴな気持ちにさせられますが、
耳栓がおいてあり、笑わせてもらいました。
こういうセンスは、日本にはあまりないような気がします。

Earplugs
The trains run behind the bathroom.
It made me have a little negative feeling,
although there were earplugs which made me laugh. 
I feel Japan does not have this kind of sense.

2) 朝食 / Breakfast

通常のメニューの他に'今日のスペシャル'があります。
They have a Today's Breakfast Special' each day.

サンプルの写真とは違うけれど...
特にスモークサーモンの量が....(笑)
おいしくいただきました。

This is quite different from a sample photograph....,
especially amount of smoked salmon...(laugh),
although I enjoyed it.

エッグベネディクト/ Eggs Benedict
私は、これを初めて食べました。
これもおいしく頂きました。

エッグベネディクト（英 Eggs Benedict ）は、
イングリッシュ・マフィンの半分にハムまたは
ベーコン、ポーチドエッグ、オランデーズソースを乗せて作る料理である。

It was the first time I had this dish.
I enjoyed it too.

3) 裏庭で / Back Garden

A. 英国の国鳥: こまどり

B. 車 / Cars

私は、車のことは詳しくありませんが、かわいい車をこちらではよく目にします。

英国ではRの車の生活で、日本では車無しの生活なので、そう思うのかもしれません...。

日本人も車が好きなので、かわいい車はたくさんあるはずですものね、

I do not know about cars, although I often see lovely cars in Britain.

In Britain, my life is with R's car, though I am without any car in Japan, so I might feel like this....

I think Japanese people love cars, too so there should be many lovely cars, shouldn't there?
