1) 竹富島 / Taketomi Island

竹富島 

周囲は約9 km

サンゴ礁の隆起によって生じた琉球石灰岩からなる低島です。

 Taketomi Island
The circumference of the Island is approximately 9 km.

It is a low island made of Ryukyu Limestone caused by coral reef uplift.

石垣港から出発し、竹富島に到着。

石垣港からは高速船で約10分です。

竹富港から皆治浜 (カイジハマ)までは、ミニバスを利用しました。

High-speed Craft Dream

The same type of high-speed craft as we boarded.

We departed from Ishigaki Port and arrived at Taketomi Island.

It is about 10 minutes from Ishigaki Port by a high-speed craft.

We used minibus from Taketomi Port to Kaiji Beach.

2) 皆治浜  / Kaiji Beach
竹富島では、'星の砂'で有名な皆治浜 (カイジハマ) と木造赤瓦の古い町並み散策が主要目的です。

全島が西表石垣国立公園に指定され、コンドイ浜 や皆治浜がある西海岸は、第2種特別地域に指定されています。

町並みは、1987年に重要伝統的建造物群保存地区に選定されています。

コンドイ浜は美しいと聞いていましたが、今回の予定には含まれていませんでした。

でも、私は全く海で泳ぐつもりはなかったので、皆治浜の方でよかったと思います。

海で泳ぐには、ちょっとまだ早い時期です。

 Kaiji Beach

Transparent feeling is amazing!

Kaiji Beach
In Taketomi Island, the main purpose is to visit Kaiji Beach, well known for the 
'Star Sand' and take a stroll along the old town which has wooden houses with red tile roofs.

The whole island was designated as Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park, and especially the West coast including Condoi Beach and Kaiji Beach which were designated as Type 2 Special Region.

The townscape has been selected as "Groups of Traditional Buildings" in 1987.

I heard that Condoi Beach is beautiful, although it was not included in our tour.

However, I did not intend to swim in the sea at all, so I think that Kaiji Beach was better.

It was a bit early for swimming in the sea.

星の砂の正体は、有孔虫。
Star sand is a foraminifera.

3) 星の砂 / Star Sand

星の砂の浜 / Star Sand Beach

 砂浜に手のひらをつけると沢山の砂がつき、
その手についた砂の中から星の砂を探します。

When you put a palm on the sandy beach, there is lots of sand on your hand 
and you can find the stars in the sand.

みんな探してます。 / Everybody is looking for them.

私はキーホルダー (上の写真) を買いました。

Star Sand Key Chain
I and R were unable to find the star sand, so I bought a key chain, above.

澄んだ海 / Clear Sea

モンパノキ (紋羽の木)

別名、ハマムラサキノキ (浜紫の木)。

東アフリカからアジア、オセアニアの熱帯から亜熱帯の海岸に生えます。

日本では、奄美群島 (アマミグントウ) 以南および

小笠原諸島 (オガサワラショトウ)に自生します。
潮害や塩害に強いことから、防風・防砂林として利用されます。

'Heliotropium Foertherianum'

It grows wild from East Africa to Asia, Oceania tropical to subtropical coast.

In Japan, it grows wild from, and to the south of the Amami Islands or Ogasawara Islands.

Because it is resistant to sea and salt damage,

 it is used as a windbreak or sand-resistant forest.

石垣港から竹富島へ船で渡ります。

We were going to cross from Ishigaki Port to Taketomi Island by boat.

繁華街

石垣港周辺が石垣島の中心地で、お店やレストラン、
居酒屋などが集中しています。

私たちはこの周辺を散策する時間はもてませんでした。

Busy Quarter

The area around Ishigaki Port is the centre of Ishigaki Island, where shops, restaurants, pubs, etc. are concentrated.
We did not have time to stroll around this area.

私は灯台が好きです。/ I like Lighthouses.

We got on this boat : 'Dream'.
'Ishigaki Dream Tours' manages this.

海上保安庁の船  : はてるま型巡視船、PL-62 'はかた'

くにがみ型巡視船 PL84'ざんぱ' も停泊していました。

 Kunigami-class Patrol Vessel  PL 84 'Zanpa' also anchored.

'第七天竜丸' / 'No.7 Tenryu-maru'

びっくり！

誰？と思ったら、具志堅 用高 (グシケン ヨウコウ / 1955)氏の彫像でした。

ボクシングには詳しくはありませんが、この方の名前は知っています。

元WBA世界ライトフライ級のチャンピオンです。

なんとなく、格闘家でありながら優しい方であるというイメージがあります。

この旅行で、彼のニックネームが 'カンムリワシ’であることを知りました。

今でも彼は地元のヒーローなのでしょう。

Surprised!

Who? I wondered, this is a statue of Yoko Gushiken (1955 -).

I don't know boxing, however, I know his name.

He was a former champion of  WBA Light Flyweight.

Somehow, I have an image that he is gentle, even though he was a fighter.

On this trip, I found that his nickname is 'Komuriwashi' : 'Crested Serpent Eagle'.

According to Wiki about him,
"Yoko Gushiken is a Japanese former professional boxer from 1974-1981. 
His professional record is 23-1 and he held the title of 
WBA Light Flyweight champion 1976-1981."
Even now he is a local hero, isn't he?

船の窓から

大型船は石垣港に入港できないので、
小型船がタクシーがわりになって人を運びます。

From Window of Boat
Since a large ship can not enter the Ishigaki port, 
a small boat carries people as a taxi.

バンナ公園は、広い敷地で、A~Eゾーンに区分けされ

Banna Park is a large site, it is divided into A to E zones.

確実に山へ入って行きます。

We definitely are entering the mountain.

幻の花、聖紫花

聖紫花 (セイシカ) を見ることができるなら、

バンナ公園がもっとも可能性があるとのことでした。

この花は、絶滅危惧種 になっています。

また、1997年、小林隆男 (コバヤシタカオ/ 1960 -) 氏が発見した

小惑星の名前；聖紫花にもなっています。

ちなみに、小林隆男氏は、単独発見2477個・共同発見2個を発見し、

これは日本の天文家としては最大の発見数で、世界的にも一個人による発見数では

エリック・エルスト (1936 -) に次いで2位です。

Phantom Flower, Seishika

It is most likely probable that we could see the flower 'Seishika' in Banna Park.

This flower is an endangered species.

Also, in 1997, Takao Kobayashi (1960 -) discovered an asteroid,

and named it 'Seishika'.

By the way, Takao Kobayashi has found 2477 asteroids alone 
and has made 2 co-discoveries.

This is the largest number of discoveries by a Japanese astronomer,

and is second only to Eric Elst (1936 -) in the number of discoveries 
by an individual worldwide.

私たちは、聖紫花 を見ることは、ここでも、旅行内でもできませんでした。

私はこの旅行に聖紫花を期待して参加したのではなかったので、がっかり度はそんなにありませんでしたが、ある参加者の女性は

「お花が見たくて参加したのに、お花が咲いてないのなら、ないと最初に言ってくれればよかったのに」

と嘆いていました。

彼女が落胆し、憤慨する気持ちは、彼女に言われたあと、理解できました。

クラブツーリズムのこの旅行の主要目的の１つが、聖紫花で、タイトルにも含まれていましたが、聖紫花についてのコメントは、添乗員からもバスガイドからも旅行中にありませんでした。

また、見る可能性が高いと言われるバンナ公園ですが、それはCゾーンにある聖紫花橋の近くに聖紫花が植栽されているからです。

私たちのツアーは、バンナ公園の "エメラルドの海が見える展望台" (Bゾーン) のみの訪問で、その展望台から、Cゾーンは徒歩圏内にないので、聖紫花を見ることができないことは最初から明白でした。



Phantom Flower, Seishika
We could not see 'Seishika' either here nor on the trip.

I was not so disappointed because I did not participate in this trip with an expectation of seeing 'Seishika', although one of the women participants was disappointed ;
"I wish I had seen flowers, but if flowers are not blooming, they should have told us first if there were no flowers."

I was able to understand her feeling that she was disappointed and resentful after she said this.

One of the main purposes in our tour was looking at 'Seishika' as well as this trip's title included 'Seishika', however, neither a tour conductor nor a bus guide even mentioned about the flower in the whole trip.

In addition, it is said that there is a high possibility of seeing 'Seishika' 
in Banna Park, because  'Seishika' is planted near the 'Seishika' Bridge in C Zone.


Our tour only visited the "Observatory for the Emerald Sea" (B Zone),  it was obvious that we could not see the 'Seishika', because C Zone is not within walking distance from the 'Observatory'.

2) 展望台 / Observatory

石垣島中央に位置する標高230mのバンナ岳に、"エメラルドの海が見える展望台"があります。

展望台付近には、複数の種類の植物が植栽されています。

There is the "Observatory for the Emerald Sea" on  Banna Mountain, 230m in the centre of Ishigaki Island.

Several kinds of plants are planted near the Observatory.

花麒麟

花麒麟 (ハナキリン) はマダガスカル原産のトウダイグサ科の低木。

イエス・キリストが冠せられた "茨の冠" がこの植物だった
との伝説があることから、
"茨の冠"(Crown of Thorns)、"キリストの植物"(Christ Plant)

などの名もあります。

聖紫花も花麒麟も綺麗な和名だと思います。

Euphorbia Milii

 'Euphorbia Milii' are shrub in the Spurge family Euphorbiaciae, native to Madagascar. 

Since there is a legend that Jesus Christ wore a "Crown of Thorns"

 which was this plant, there are common names such as 

'Crown of Thorns' and 'Christ Plant'.

ハイビスカス 

ハイビスカス は、フヨウ(芙蓉)の仲間(フヨウ属)と知って、少し驚きます。

 Hibiscus

I was a little surprised to know that Hibiscus is a member (genus) of Dixie Rosemallow.

"エメラルドの海が見える展望台" / "Observatory for the Emerald Sea"

天気に恵まれると、西表島、竹富島、小浜島、黒島が見えるそうです。

It is said that if people are blessed with the weather,
the people can see Iriomote Island, Taketomi Island , Kohama Island and Kuro Island (Kuroshima).

竹富島？ / Taketomi Island?

西北を見る

名蔵湾、名蔵アンパル、崎枝半島にある屋良部岳 (ヤラブダケ / 216m) が見えます。

名蔵湾 (ナグラワン)は、石垣間で最大の湾です。

名蔵アンパルは、干潟およびマングローブ林を含む地域で、ラムサール条約登録され保護されています。

上の写真では、手前の湾側がその地域にあたります。

下記、Wikiより

"名蔵アンパルは名蔵川の河口部にできた入り江であり、その入り江に土砂が堆積し、
マングローブ林が形成された。

沿岸部には南北約2kmに渡り砂州が発達し、結果として潟湖 (ラグーン) が形成された。

現在は砂州の上に道路が通っている。

2つの海峡部にはそれぞれ名蔵大橋、名蔵小橋が架かっている。"

To North-West

I can see Nagura Bay, 'Nagari Amparu' and Yarabe Mountain, 216m 
in the Sakieda Peninsula.

Nagura Bay is the largest bay in Ishigaki Island.

Nagura Amparu is an area including tidal flats and mangrove forests, 
which was registered by 'Ramsar Convention' and is protected,

and in the above picture is the area on this side of the bay

According to Japanese Wiki about Nagura Amparu, (Translation by me)

" Nagura Amparu is a cove made in the estuary of the Nagura River, sediment accumulated in the bay, and a mangrove forest was formed.

The sandbars developed about 2 km north and south on the coastal area,

as result a lagoon was made.

Nowadays the road runs above the sandbar.

The two straits are bridged by the Nagura Big Bridge and Nagura Small Bridge respectively. "

写真では見えませんが、大橋右方面に'石垣やいま村'があります。

Nagura Big Bridge and to this side is Nagura Amparu

Although you can not see in this photo, 

there is 'Ishigaki Yaima Village' to the right side of the Big Bridge.

私たちが宿泊したホテルや青い橋: サザンゲートブリッジが見えます。
サザンゲートブリッジは、夕日と朝日を見る名所なのでそうです。

To South 

I can see our hotel and the blue bridge : "Southern Gate Bridge".

It is said that the "Southern Gate Bridge" is a good tourist spot
 to see the sunset and the sunrise.

石垣島電波塔  / Ishigaki Island Radio masts and towers 

ジャングルと言ってよいのでしょうか？
Could I call here a jungle?

西には、石垣島天文台が見えます。

石垣島天文台は、前勢岳(マエセダケ)(★)にあります。

もしも次回石垣島を訪ねるチャンスがあるなら、
この展望台へ行ってみたいです。

個人旅行でないと無理でしょうね。

I can see the Ishigaki Island Astronomical Observatory in the West.

The Astronomical Observatory is on Maese Mountain (Maese-dake). 

If there is a chance to visit Ishigaki Island the next time, 

I would like to go to this Observatory.

It will be impossible unless it is in an individual trip.
