1) 鎌倉山 / Kamakurayama

私は大町 (鎌倉) にあるリトグラフ工房に、10月から一週間に一度、通っています。

春から工房へ行きたかったのですが、コロナのために行けず、ようやく、10月から行くことができるようになりました。

リトグラフ工房は、在宅がちな私の生活に '外出' という機会を与え、私に外の空気を感じさせてくれます。

白いランタナ
白いランタナは今年、我が家の庭に仲間入りしました。
この場所は道沿いの花壇で、よく撮影します。
白いランタナがあることに初めて気がつきました。

White Lantana

White Lantana has joined our garden this year.

This place is a flower bed along the road, and I often take pictures.

I noticed for the first time that here is a White Lantana.

Kamakurayama

I go to the lithograph studio in Omachi, Kamakura once a week from October.

I wanted to go to the studio from spring, but I couldn't go because of Corona, and finally I can go to there from October.

The lithograph studio gives me the opportunity to 'go out' in my life, 

I who tends to stay at home, and gives me feel of the outside air.

オキザリス
この場所も白いランタナと同じ花壇にあります。
我が家にもオキザリスはありますが、
ここの方が綺麗に元気に咲いています。
鮮やかなピンクが私の心を明るくしてくれ、
リトグラフ工房へ向かう私を励ましてくれるように感じます。

Oxalis

This place is also in the same flowerbed as the White Lantana.

There is Oxalis in our garden, 

but Oxalis blooms more beautifully and finely here.

I feel that the bright pink brightens my heart and 

encourages me to head to the lithograph studio.

苔丸
最寄りのバス停前に苔丸さんがあります。
帰宅時に撮影をすることが多かったのですが
最近は帰宅時には暗くなっているので、行きに撮影することが
多くなりました。

Kokemaru

There is Kokemaru in front of my nearest bus stop.

I used to photograph when I am on my way home, 

but recently it's getting dark when I come home,

 so I often photograph on the way.

2) 下馬四角 / Geba-Yostukado Crossroads

リトグラフ工房に行くときは、バスは下馬四角 (ゲバヨツカド) バス停でおります。

'下馬四角'という名前は、珍しく、初めて聞いたときには

「えっ？ゲバヨツカド...」

と聞き直してしまうのではないでしょうか？

鎌倉時代、現在の下馬四ツ角から鶴岡八幡宮までは、馬の乗り入れが許されていませんでした。

乗馬者は、下馬四ツ角で馬を降り、鶴岡八幡宮に参拝しました。

若宮大路を横切るときも、この場所で一度馬を降り、八幡宮に礼拝をしました。

当時、馬を降りた場所なので、下馬と呼ばれるようになったのです。

このことは鎌倉に住み始め、すぐに知りました。

今日、信号待ちをしているときに、 "知らざれる鎌倉 英国士官殺傷" の案内板を見ました。

鎌倉でも、幕末の外国人殺傷事件があったことは知っていましたが、それが下馬四ツ角付近であることを初めて知りました。

これは鎌倉事件 : ★と呼ばれます。

Geba-Yostukado Crossroads

When I go to the lithograph studio, I get off the bus at the 'Geba-yotsukado' bus stop.

The name "Geba-yotsukado" is unusual, and when you first hear it, you might ask back, 

"What? Geba-yotsukado ...".

'Geba' means get off horse and 'yotsukado' means crossroads in Japanese.

During the Kamakura period, horses were not allowed to enter from the current 'Geba-yotsukado' to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.

Riders got off their horses at 'Geba-yotsukado' and worshiped at the Shrine.

When riders crossed Wakamiya Oji Street, they got off their horses once at this place and worshiped ; bowed for the Shrine.

At that time, it was the place where riders got off their horses, so it came to be called 'Geba'.

I knew about this soon after I started living in Kamakura.

Today, while waiting for a traffic light, I saw the information board for "Killing of British Officers" in Kamakura.

I knew that there was a murder of a foreigner at the end of the Edo period in Kamakura, but I found out for the first time that it was near 'Geba-yotsukado'.

This is called the 'Kamakura Incident'.

3) 滑川のサギ / Heron in Nameri River

延命橋から
延命橋は、神奈川県道311号鎌倉葉山線上にあり、
滑川 (ナメリガワ) に架かっています。
滑川には、時々サギがいます。
今日はサギを見ることができました。
電車は湘南新宿ラインです。

From Enmei Bridge
Enmei Bridge is located on the Kamakura Hayama Route 
of Kanagawa Prefectural Road 311 and 
spans Nameri River.
There are sometimes herons in Nameri River.
I was able to see a heron today.
The train is on the Shonan-Shinjuku line.

i-phoneしか持っていなかったので、ズームが十分でなくサギをはっきり撮影できませんでした。

I only had my i-phone, so I couldn't photograph the heron clearly because the zoom isn't enough.

4) 紅葉 / Autumn Colours 

美しい竹
竹も紅葉するのかしら？
竹は春に紅葉するそうです。

Beautiful Bamboo
I wonder if bamboo will also turn red?
Bamboo is said to turn red in spring.

日の光と周囲の木々のせいか、竹も今、
紅葉しているように見えます。

Bamboo seems to be in autumn colours now,
 probably because of the sunlight and the surrounding trees.

5) 椿 / Camellia

リトグラフのY先生の庭に椿があります。

とても綺麗に咲いていました。

There is a camellia in the garden of Y Sensei, lithograph studio.

It bloomed very beautifully.

Preparation for My Exhibition - Lithograph Studio

翌年の個展に向けて、通常、春からリトグラフ制作を始め、秋の初めには終了し、陶芸制作に集中していました。

今回の実制作開始は、コロナの影響を受けて、10月からでした。

私が通うリトグラフ工房は大町 (鎌倉) にあります。

10月から一週間に一度、行っています。

リトグラフは私にとっては、'ドローイング' なので、リトグラフを

終えないと陶芸が始められないのです。

今回はリトグラフがやや先行しつつも、ほぼ同時進行に近い状態です。

制作への姿勢に変化があります。

'リトグラフを始めないと陶芸が始められない' という自分で作った

呪縛から少し解放されつつあるのかもしれません。

リトグラフの2番目の作品
2版目を剃りました。

Preparation for My Exhibition - Lithograph Studio

For my next year's exhibition, I usually start lithograph work in the spring and finish it in early autumn, then concentrating on ceramic art work.

This time my actual making started in October, influenced by Corona.

The lithograph studio I go to is in Omachi, Kamakura.

I have been going once a week since October.

For me, lithographs are 'drawings', so I can't start ceramics without having finished lithographs.

This time, the lithograph making is only a little ahead, it is almost simultaneous.

There is a change in my attitude toward making.

Maybe I'm getting a little free from the curse I gave myself, "I can't start ceramics without having finished lithographs."

和紙にカラーインクでドローイングした上に刷っています。

This is printed on Washi : Japanese paper,
 already drawn with colour inks.

和紙は以前よりリトグラフで使ってみたい素材でした。

今回、リトグラフでは初めて使用しています。

I had wanted to use Washi in lithographs for a long time.

This is the first time I've used Washi for a lithograph.

ファビリアーノ(イタリアの紙) にカラーインクで
ドローイングした上に刷っています。

This is printed on Fabriano (Italian paper),
 already drawn with colour ink.

配達
ネット注文した商品が届きました。
空色釉、アルミナペーパー、ゴムベラ(大・小)です。 空色釉は初めて注文しました。 次回の個展のテーマが空(ソラ)なので、注文してみました。

Delivery

I received items I ordered online.

Sky Blue glaze, alumina paper and 

rubber shapers (large and small).

I ordered the Sky Blue glaze for the first time.

The theme of my next  exhibition is Sky, so I ordered this.

空色釉
市販の釉薬は水を合わせるだけなので、楽です。
けれども私は、当初、全ての釉薬を自分で調合していたので、
少し罪悪感を持ってしまいます。

Sky Blue Glaze
Over-the-counter glazes are easy 
because they only need to be mixed with water.
However, at first, I formulated all the glazes myself, 
so this now makes me feel a little guilty.

B. アルミナペーパー/Alumina Paper

本焼中に作品から釉薬が焼成棚に流れ、焼成後に棚に接着してしまう場合があります。

作品も棚も傷めてしまいます。

私は、当初、アルミナパウダー (酸化アルミニウム) を使用していましたが、扱いが簡単なアルミナペーパーを知り、現在はこちらを使用しています。

Alumina Paper

During the main firing the glaze may flow from the work onto the shelves and adhere to the shelves after firing. 

This damages both the work and the shelves. 

In the beginning, I used to use alumina powder (aluminum oxide), but I found out that alumina paper is easy to handle, so now I use this.

C. 本焼 / Glaze Firing

本焼開始
3つの釉薬のための焼成です。
<自作設定：B - 3>
温度低めの1230度で、ねらしを通常より長めの30分にしています。

Firing for three glazes.

<Self-made setting : B - 3>

At 1230 degrees, which is lower in temperature,

 the soak is 30 minutes, which is longer than usual.

Sometimes alumina paper leaves an interesting shape.

This is after lustre firing and the colour is lustre.

かけら
作品は時として焼成中に割れます。
まあ、残念な気持ちもありますが、私は結構好きです。
自分では作れない美しいラインや形を作ってくれます。
この写真の場合は、かけらと下地に敷く布地の色の
バランスが素敵です。

Fragments

My works sometimes break during firing.

Well, I feel a little reglet, but I quite like it.

It creates beautiful lines and shapes that I can't make myself.

In the case of this photograph, the balance between 

fragments and the base fabric colours is wonderful.

3) 素焼 / Biscuit Firing 

素焼開始
英国の素焼温度は日本の素焼温度よりも高いです。
私は英国で陶芸を学んだので英国の素焼温度を使用しています。

Biscuit Firing 

The biscuit firing temperature in Britain is higher than in Japan.

I studied ceramics in Britain so I use the temperature as in Britain.

私の場合、素焼で割れることは、ほぼありません。
オブジェの場合は接着が悪い場合があります。

In my case, works are almost never cracked by Biscuit Firing.
Adhesion may be poor in the case of objects.

4) 透明釉 / Transparent Glaze

透明釉
透明釉は本焼き後、艶を出し耐水性を強める釉薬です。
長石(チョウセキ) がメインで、ほかにも複数の材料を混ぜます。
なので、透明釉でも配合 (レシピ) が違います。
今回の透明釉は私にとっては、No.2のレシピです。
因みに殆どの岩石に長石は含まれています。

Transparent Glaze

Transparent glaze gives a gloss coating and 

enhances water resistance after firing.

Feldspar is the main ingredient, 

and several other ingredients are added.

Therefore, even with transparent glaze, 

the compositions are different.

This transparent glaze is the No. 2 recipe for me.

By the way, most rocks contain feldspar.

釉薬作りに使用した道具
釉薬の入れ物は綿飴が入っていたものを利用しています。
他の釉薬も何かの(主に食べ物) の容器であったものを
使用しています。
英国の容器なので、思い出もあります。

Tools Used to Make Glaze

The glaze container used had contained cotton candy.

My other glaze containers had also held 

something else (mainly food).

They are British containers, so I have some memories.

グラタン

ケーキサレもグラタンも料理の回数を減らし、

個展準備にかける時間確保になります。

このほかに野菜スープは常備しています。

夫Rは、私の手がなくとも、これらを利用し彼なりに食事を

してくれるので助かります。

Gratin

Both cake sale and gratin reduce the number of my cooking

 and give me more time to prepare for my exhibition.

Besides this, vegetable soup is always available.

My husband R can use these to eat in his own way 

without my hands and it helps me.

2) スタジオの後 / After Studio

A. ワイン / Wine

前回の個展が終了した時から、意識は次の個展に向かいますが、実制作はほぼ1年前に始めます。

けれでも今回の実制作は、コロナの影響でほぼ半年前からになりました。

リトグラフ制作、磁器制作、ブログ更新、データ整理、そして家事全般を同時進行するのは初めてです。

いつもとの違いに戸惑いも多いですが新しい発見もあり、なかなか

面白い生活だと思っています。

自宅の一室をスタジオにし、作品制作をしています。

この環境は私には適していて気に入っています。

その日の仕事を終えて、プライベートな時間に戻るときにワインまたはビールを飲みます。

飲みつつ、ふ〜っと息をつく....。

個展の実制作を始めてから、飲む回数が増えたように思います。

かわいいエチケット(ラベル)
日本ではエチケット(ラベル)が気に入って購入することを
"ジャケ買い"と言いますが英語ではなんというのでしょうか？
このワインもジャケ買いしました。
味も美味しかった！ちょっと感動。

Cute Etiquette (Label)

In Japan, people like etiquettes (labels) and buy which 

is called "Jakegai" ; 'By buying Jacket', but what is it in English?

Anyway I bought this wine as  Jakegai.

The taste was lively, I was a little impressed.

Wine

From the time one of my exhibition is over, my consciousness go to my next  exhibition, but the actual making starts almost a year before.

However, this time my actual making has been delayed for about half a year due to the influence of Corona.

This is the first time for me to do lithograph making, porcelain making, blog update, data organization, and general household chores all at the same time.

There are many confusions about the differences, but there are new discoveries, and I think it's quite an interesting life.

My studio is in our house and I work there.

This environment is suitable for me and I like it.

Drink wine or beer when I finish my day's work and return to my private time.

While drinking, take a breath ....whoo~

I think that the number of drinks has increased since I started actually making for my exhibition.

フルーツサラダを作ったり、フルーツの時間を作ったりします。
