Burford
This day is the highlight of our Cotswolds trip for me!
The purpose of Burford was a tea room called HUFFKINS.

おそらく１号店とティットコム氏
1890年頃に、ティットコム氏 / Mr Titcomb がバーフォードに、
コッツオルズ・ストーンの、小さな店を出しました。
Probably the First Shop and Mr Titcomb
Around 1890, Mr Titcomb opened a small shop
in a Cotswolds stone building in Burford.

きっと以前は川沿いの野原で、鳥たちは自由に行き来していたのだと思います。
今は、針金でここから、鳥が直接は岸から上がって来れないようにしてあります。 鳥と人との共存の方法なのでしょう。
I think the birds used to be free to come and go in the fields along the river.
Nowadays, wire is used to prevent birds from coming up directly from the riverbank.
It's a method of coexistence between birds and people.
 白鳥の子供は1羽だけのようでした。 It seemed that there was only one cygnet.  ちょっとひ弱そうに見えます。 無事に育ちますように！ Looks a little weak. I hope you can grow up safely!  母鳥が、「気をつけなさい！」 でも、子供はうるさそうにしています。 一人っ子だもの、口やかましくなりますよね？ Mother bird says, 'Watch out!' but the child seems to think 'I know'. You are only her child, so the mother should be noisy, right? |

私たちは、バーフォードは、 "ハフキンズ / HUFFKINS"が目的で来たので、他の観光場所は知りませんでした。
駐車場にバーフォードの町の地図があり、駐車場から "ハフキンズ" の間に、洗礼者聖ヨハネ教会があるのを見つけました。

We didn't know where to go because we just came Burford for "HUFFKINS".
There is a map of the town of Burford in the car park, and I found the Church of St. John the Baptist is between the car park and "HUFFKINS".

バーフォードを本日の最初の訪問場所に選んだのは、Rの早起きを促すためでした。
「バーフォードへ行けば、美味しいお茶、コーヒーが飲めるよ〜！」
「美味しい食事ができるよ〜！」
と言う、"ニンジン効果"を期待したからです。
案の定、彼は早起き(と言っても対して早い訳ではないのですが）し、ハフキンズがオープンしたばかりの時間に、到着できました。

ハフキンズへやってきました！
2軒並んでいます。 1軒はティールーム、もう一軒は、お土産やテイクアウトの食品を売っています。
私達は、ティールームへ！(英国旗の入り口)
We Arrived at Huffkins! Two shops are lined up. One is for tea room and the other is for souvenirs and takeaway food.

どこかで...?
看板を見て、どこかで見たような....
キングストンのジョン・ルイス店でこのデザインのバックを
見たことを思い出しました。
何故 あそこにこのデザインのバックがあったのか頭に疑問符?が飛び散りました。
Somewhere...?
Looking at the signboard, I had seen it somewhere ...
I then remembered seeing this design on a bag in John Lewis in Kingston.
The question marks? scattered in my head, why was this design back there?

Tea Room
I chose Burford as our first place to visit today to encourage R to get up early.
"If you go to Burford, you can have delicious tea or coffee!"
"You can have a delicious meal!"
That's because I expected the "dangling carrot effect".
Sure enough, he woke up early (although it wasn't so early) and we arrived just before Huffkins opened.

| フレンチトーストにベーコンに蜂蜜、その上、ジャム、生クリーム付きです。 私には、うわ〜っ！という組みあわせですが、 ウエイトレスさんオススメの品でした。 Rも楽しんで食べてました。 French toast with bacon and honey, in addition, jam and fresh cream O-W-W! for me, it was a combination, but it was a product recommended by Waitress. R enjoyed eating. |

エッグ・ベネディクト
エッグ・ベネディクトはアメリカ発祥で、
ベーコンにはちみつというのもいかにもアメリカという感じが私にはします。
ハフキンズの料理や味は、英国を基礎に
アメリカのアレンジを効かせたものなのかなと思います。
このエッグ・ベネディクト、美味しかったですよ。
Eggs Benedict
Eggs Benedict originated in America and
I feel that bacon with honey is really American.
I think that the food or taste of Huffkins is based on British food
with an American twist.
This Eggs Benedict was delicious.

甘いもののファンでもないのに、お菓子やケーキの撮影は好きです。 外見が料理よりは可愛い感じだからでしょうか？
このディスプレイには、私の好きなハンパー(ピクニック・バスケット)と
テディ・ベアまであるので撮影せずにはいられませんでした。

I'm not a fan of sweets, but I like photographing sweets and cakes.
Is it because they look more attractive than savoury food?
I couldn't help taking photographs
because even my favourite hamper and teddy bears were in this display.

This reminds me of Fortnum & Mason.
In fact, F & M shop in London sells some Huffkins products.

パウンドケーキを探して
たくさんの種類のパウンドケーキがあります。
何かの賞を得たオレンジ・クランベリー(と思う)のパウンドケーキを
探しましたがありませんでした。
スタッフさんに聞くと、ロンドンのF&Mの
クリスマス・ハンパーセットの中にあるとのことでした。
後に、RがロンドンのF&Mで聞くと、
現在そのケーキは英国王室へだけ納められていて、
一般では買えないとわかりました。
Looking for Pound Cake
There are many types of pound cake.
We looked for their award-winning orange and cranberry (I think) pound cake,
but we couldn't find it.
When we asked the staff, she said that
it is only in the Christmas hamper set of F & M in London.
Then later, R asked F & M in London, however,
the cake is currently only available to the British royal family,
I understand that we cannot buy it generally.

スタッフさんに
キングストンのジョン・ルイスにもお店があるかを聞きましたら、
あるとのことでした。
ではやはり、私が見たのはハフキンズだったのだと確信しました。
そのほかに数店舗英国内にあることを知りました(★)。
John Lewis Shop
I asked the staff, if there is a Huffikins in John Lewis in Kingston,
she said there is.
After all, I was convinced that I had seen Huffkins.
I also found that there are several other Huffikins in Britain (★).

| 最終的なスーツケースの重さを考えて紅茶を買いました。 We bought tea, considering the weight of our suitcases when returning to Japan. |
素朴さや温かみがあり、そしてがっつりした食事は、いかにも英国人好みに思えました。
スタッフの方々もフレンドリーで、居心地よく過ごさせてくれました。
コッツオルズにこんなお店があれば、人気が出るのは容易に察せられました。
Rも私も気に入っています。
石造りの家々の間を歩き、小川を見、水鳥を見、居心地の良いサービスを受け、英国を感じられる食事があったなら、本当に素敵なことです。
コッツオルズの店(Huffikins)で、少なくとも、カントリーサイドで、飲食するというのが大切なことに思えます。

I thought that their simple, warm and powerful food seem to be British peoples favourite.
The staff were friendly and made us feel at home.
With such a shop (tea-room) in the Cotswolds, it was easy to see how popular it was.
I and R also like there.
It is really lovely to walk among stone houses, see streams, see waterfowl, have a cozy service and have a British meal.
It seems important to eat and drink in a Cotswolds Huffikins shop, or at least one in the countryside.
