マンチェスターに住む、Rの母Jを訪ねました。

Jの庭は素敵、くるたびに癒されます。

庭を散策したあとは、Jが私に植物図鑑を見せながら、花の名前と発音を教えてくれました。

庭から家を見る / From Garden to House

We visited R's mother, J, who lives in Manchester.

J's garden is lovely, every visit gives me healing.

After walking around her garden, J showed me a plant picture book and she taught me names and their pronunciations.

地方自治体の野原が庭の前にあるのは、ラッキー！
It is lucky that there is a local authority field behind the garden.

PCで何かしている訳ではありません。

良い香りがするバラです。

ドクダミにそっくりなのですけれど....
残念ながら、J は知りませんでした。

They look very similar to Dokudami in Japanese.
Are they Houttuynia cordata?Unfortunately J does not know about them.

高い木は、ナラノキ
英国(ヨーロッパ)のOakは、樫の木でなく、楢の木であると以前知りました。

マンチェスター空港がとても近いので飛行機も近い！
Manchester Airport is very close, so aeroplane is very close too!

藤
日本の庭では藤棚にしてしまいますが、
Jの庭ではこんなふうに自然な形にしています。
鎌倉では、山で自生している藤はよく見かけますし、庭でもときどき見かけます

Wisteria Floribunda
In Japan, the trees are in gardens which are often on wisteria trellis,
although in J's garden, the tree keeps a natural shape.
I oftentimes look at Wisteria growing wild up through other trees 
in the mountains around Kamakura 
and sometimes I see natural shapes in gardens, too.

煙突が英国を、ロンドンを、メアリー・ポピンズを感じさせます。
Chimneys gives me feelings, Britain or London or Mary Poppins. 

ちなみに我が家には、暖炉も煙突もありません。
By the way, our home does not have a fireplace and chimney.

デイル・チフーリ (1941 - ) の作品がまだ展示されていて嬉しい！
私は彼の作品がすきです。

The Work of Dale Chihuly (1941 -) is still displayed and I am glad!
I do like his works.

Rachel Kneebone is a British artist.
The works of porcelain sculptures strive to represent the human body
 in all its complexity.

レイチェル・ニーボウンは英国のアーティスト。
作品は、材質は磁器で、人間の体の複合体で、
人間の体の複雑さを表現しています。

英国のアカデミックなアート界は、伝統の技術や型を踏襲しつつ、

現代的な思想をもつ作品形が好きなように思います。

それを備えるこの作品は、

中世とルネッサンス 期の作品群の中に展示されていても

時代差や違和感をあまり感じません。

I think that the academic art world in Britain likes works which follow 

in the footsteps of traditional technique or form as well as having modern thoughts.

This work has these so if it is among works from the Medieval period and 

Renaissance period, I would not feel the difference of time or wrong.

テイト・ブリテンでも感じましたが、
今回の英国訪問では、古い時代のものが新鮮に感じます。

I feel fresh for me about works from old periods in this trip to Britain
similar to my feelings in Tate Britain.

当時を思わせる展示の仕方になっていると感じます。
I feel how this room is displayed gives me a feeling of that period.
こんなゲートをそのまま博物館に展示できるなんてすごいな〜....
It is great that this gate can be displayed in its entirety in a Museum....

祭壇
上のゲートを通ると、複数の大きな祭壇画が展示されています。
左の祭壇はイタリアのブレッサノーネ、おそらく聖アンドリュー教会から
1500 ~ 10年頃制作 
 菩提樹と松材に塗装と金メッキ
製作者: Rupert Potch (活動期 : 1480 -1530) と
Philipp Diemer (活動期 : 1496 -1515) 

Altars 
Through the gate above, there are some big altars.
The altar on the left came from Brixen in Italy, possibly from St. Andrew.
It was made in about 1500 ~10. 
 Limewood and pine, painted and glided.
By Rupert Potch (active : 1480 -1530) and Philipp Diemer (active : 1496 -1515)

Screen From Chichester Cathedral, about 1250
The cathedral screen is extremely rare and was originally painted red and gilded.

非常に珍しい、鉄の教会の内陣仕切りで、
もとは、赤と金で塗装されていました。

Inside Church, 1350 〜1600
ウエッジウッドのジャスパーウエアーを思い起こしました。
ジャスパーウエアーは古代ギリシャ、古代ローマから
ヒントを得たものでしょうけれど、私は
「あっ、ジャスパー！」
と見てすぐに思ってしまいました。
ルネッサンス期の部屋なので、あながち間違った発想でもないでしょう？


This reminded me of Jasperware, Wedgwood.
I think Jasperware's idea came from Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome,
however, when I looked at this, instantly I thought,
"Oh! Jasperware!"
The room is Renaissance period, so my idea was not so wrong, was it?

I do like Frescoes.

フレスコ画が好きです。
このフレスコ画は損傷なく保存されローマの教会から委託され、
ここに来ています。

この絵は、すでに死亡して４日たっていたラザラス(ラザロ)が
キリストの力によって蘇えったという奇跡の話が描かれています。

The Sackler Courtyard

どこに新しい建物があるのか、スタッフに場所を聞いて行きました。

ここは、'The Sackler Courtyard'となづけられています。

We asked staff, where is a new building?

Here is named, 'The Sackler Courtyard'.

もとはボイラー室であったところを、

オリンピックサイズ・プール(50x25)10個分を掘りあげて、

8年かけてここを作りました。

There used to be a boiler house and they dug out 

10 Olympic-size  swimming pools (50x25m) and worked for 8 years.

俯瞰図では、位置関係や大きさがよくわかります。
The pictures look down so we understand easily the layout and sizes.

磁器タイル / Porcelain Tiles 

私がここを訪れた理由はこのタイルが見たかったからです。
白、クリーム、ペールピンク、ペールブルーのタイルが組み合わされています。
斜面部分は綺麗な凸凹になっています。

ここには、150個の型で作られた、15種類の柄、
11,000枚の磁器タイルが使用されています。
驚くべきことに、1枚づつ人の手によって作られていました。

I visited here because I would see these tiles.
The tiles are white with cream, pale pink and pale blue.
The slope is beautifully bumpy.

There are 11,000 porcelain tiles in 15 patterns made using 150 moulds.
Surprisingly each tile was made by hand.

椅子やテーブルのデザインはタイルと共通しています。
The design of the chairs and tables matched the tiles.

とても暑い日で私はビールを飲みました。美味しかった！

ビールのデザインもガラス張りのカフェに合っています。

ビールはアメリカンスタイルのIPA(インディア・ペールエール)ですが、

エディンバラの醸造所 (Caledonian Brewery / 1869年創業) のものです。

It was a very hot day, so I had a beer. It was good!

The design of the beer suits the glass cafe. 

The beer is American Style IPA,

although it came from an Edinburgh Brewery : 

the Caledonian Brewery (established in 1869).

Rはカフェオレとアプリコットタルト

タルトに使用されたタイムの効果にRは甚く感動していました。

R had Cafe-au-Lait and a piece of an apricot tart.

He was  very impressed by the thyme topping on the tart.

カフェオレのカップも涼しげです。

The cup of Cafe-au-Lait looks cool.

ウィンブルドン / Wimbledon

最近、ビクトリア アンド アルバート博物館 (V&A) の新しい建物がオープンしたばかりと聞いたので、出かけました。

V&Aがあるセンターロンドンへ向かう場合、通常は最寄のEarlsfield駅を利用しますが、この日は帰宅時にウィンブルドンで買い物を予定していたので、ウィンブルドン駅近くまで、車で向かいました。

'2017年ウィンブルドンテニス' がまだ開催中でしたので、ウィンブルドンの街をちょっと見るのもいいかなという思いもありました。

Nowadays I heard of a new building just opened in V&A Museum and went.

When I go to central London from our house, I usually use the closest station, Earlsfield Station, though we had planned to go shopping in Wimbledon after the V&A so we drove close to Wimbledon station.

'2017 Wimbledon Championships' were still being played and I would see Wimbledon Town a little.

ウィンブルドン駅はウィンブルドンテニス色でいっぱいです。
The station is full of signs for Wimbledon Tennis.

英国の家がウィンブルドンテニスの会場に近いので、
機会があれば見に出かけていました。
が、今年の、この時期の英国がとても暑く、
Rが炎天下のウィンブルドンテニスの会場に行くのを嫌がったので、
行きませんでした。
そのかわりに、何か別の計画をと思っています。

Our house in Britain is close to Wimbledon Courts, so when I had an opportunity,
I visited there, however, the season this year was very hot, 
R wouldn't go the courts under the sun so we did not visit.
Instead of the visit I think we could have a different plan.

I went to this English language school in Wimbledon, 2004.
