1) スパイラルホール / Spiral Hall

青山のスパイラルホールで『ちいさいおうち』展が開催されていました。
スパイラルホールと『ちいさいおうち』のイメージが私には離れていたので、
ちょっと驚きで、そして嬉しく思いました。

"The Little House" Exhibition was held in the Spiral Hall, Aoyama in Tokyo.
The image of the Spiral Hall and the picture book were different for me,
so it was a little surprised and I was glad.

2) "ちいさいおおうち" の絵本、小説、映画 

    Picture Book, Novel and Film of The Little House

絵本、『The Little House / ちいさいおうち』は、1942年に文、絵ともに、アメリカの絵本作家、ヴァージニア・リー・バートン (1909 - 1968) によって作られました。

日本では、岩波書店が、"岩波のこどもの本シリーズ" の一つとして、1981年に『ちいさいおうち』[訳：石井 桃子 (1907 -2008) ] を出版しました。

現在も販売されている、ロングセラーの絵本です。

映画 "小さいおうち" (2014) [原作 (2010年直木賞) : 中島 京子 (1964 -) / 監督: 山田 洋次 (1931-)] が制作され、第64回ベルリン国際映画祭のコンペティション部門に出品され、女優の黒木華 (1990-)が最優秀女優賞 (銀熊賞)を受賞しました。

このことで、絵本の『ちいさいおうち』も再認識されたように感じます。

Picture Book, Novel and Film of The Little House

A picture book, "The Little House" is a 1942 book written and illustrated by an  American, Virginia Lee Burton (1909 - 1968).

In Japan, Iwanami Shoten published "Chisai Ouchi "(The Little House) [Translated : Momoko Ishii (1907 - 2008)) in 1981 as one of "Series of Iwanami no kodo no Hon (Iwanami's Books for Children)".

 This is still on sale now and is a steady selling picture book.

A film "The Little House (Chisai Ouchi)" (2014) [ Original novel (2010, Bungeishunjū / Naoki Prize : ★) by Kyoko Nakajima (1964 -) / Director : Yoji Yamada (1931 -)] was produced, exhibited in the 64th Berlin International Film Festival Competition, and Actress Kuroki Hana (1990-) received the Best Actress of Silver Bear awards.

正確な展覧会タイトルは

ヴァージニア・リー・バートンの

ちいさいおうち

ー　時代を超えて生き続けるメッセージ　 ー

です。

ヴァージニア・リー・バートンの名前が、日本では一般的にはそれほど知名度が高くないので、"ヴァージニア・リー・バートン展"というタイトルでは、ピンとこず、来場者数が望めないと関係者が考えたように思います。

私も、"ヴァージニア・リー・バートン展"と知っても、すぐには彼女を思い出せず、絵本の"ちいさいおうち"の作者と聞けば、ああ、あのバートンかと思い当たったのではないかと....。

私がバートンの絵本を愛読したのは、10代後半から20代前半でした。

The accurate exhibition title is
「Virginia Lee Burton's "The Little House" : A Timeless Message That Lives On」

In Japan, the name of Virginia Lee Burton is not so well known in general, so it seems to be that planners thought that normal people would not register the title : "Virginia Lee Burton Exhibition" and the number of possible visitors would not be so large.

Even if I know that as "Virginia  Lee Burton Exhibition", Burton could not be come to my mind at once, but if I heard of the author of the picture book : "The Little House", I could recall Burton ....

I loved reading Burton's picture books from my late teens to early twenties.

私は、バートンの絵本の仕事しか知らなかったので、彼女のグラフィックやテキスタイルの仕事が新鮮に感じました。

I only knew the works in picture books of Burton, so I felt her graphic works and textile works were fresh.

懐かしい食器のデザインを思い起こさせます。
It reminds me of old-fashioned dishes designs.

黒猫 

『こねこのぴっち』[文・絵：ハンス・フィッシャー (1909 - 1958, 
スイスの絵本画家) 原書版1941 / 日本語版1954 (岩波書店)]

の黒猫を思い起こします。

ハンス・フィッシャーとヴァージニア・リー・バートンは同い年なんですね。

『こねこのぴっち』も"岩波のこどもの本シリーズ" の一つであり、

ロングセラーの絵本でもあります。

私はどちらも好き！

Black Cat

It reminds me of a picture book "Pitschi" (1941) by Hans Fischer (1909 - 1958).

Virginia Lee Burton and Hans Fischer were the same age, weren't they?

"Pitschi" is one of "Series of Iwanami's Books for Children", too

and is also a long-seller picture book.

I like both.

彼女のデザインセンスが絵本に発揮され、彼女の絵本のページはかなり装飾的であり、白場が生かされているように感じました。

Her design sense was demonstrated in the picture book, I felt that the pages in her picture books were quite decorative and the white field made best use of space.
