Takayama
Jinya
There was a walk in Hida Takayama this day on our tour.
Visits to morning markets, old town streets, and Takayama Jinya are standard, although our tour did not have time to visit all of them.
For us who like architecture, we visited Takayama Jinya first.
Takayama Jinya was a National government office where officers worked since Hida Province : Hida-no-kuni came under Tokugawa Shogunate : Tokugawa bakufu direct rule in the Edo period (1603 - 1868), these areas were called 'Tenryo'.
Official Website : ★
'Jinya' is the name used generically for administrators, accountants, police and official residences.
Although there were 64 regional headquarters and sub-headquarters during the Edo period, the Takayama Jinya as 'Tenryo' is the only one existing today.

After
the Meiji
Restoration, the buildings of Takayama Jinya were used as government buildings for various organizations and in
1966 they were restored to the state they had been in the Edo period (1603
- 1868) based on the picture of 1830, they used
about two thousand million yen and took about 16
years.
They
have a free English guided tour which is available on request.
You can see much better photographs in their photo gallery (★) than mine.

According to Wiki,
"The roofs of the buildings are covered in several different styles (e.g. noshi-buki, kokera-buki, and ishiokinagakure-buki), but all of these methods utilize wooden shingles.
It is thought that this is due to the fact that the Hida region received a lot of snow and was a production center for timber, and compared to clay tiles at the time, which were easily worn down by snow, wooden materials were more readily available."

Here
was the 73rd Shogi Meijin

I
do not know enough about Shogi and its title matches,

somehow I like Shogi matches.
I
like anecdotes of genius, Mr. Yoshiharu Habu and other other Shogi
players.
It was the first time I knew of Hisashi Namekata here.

This
'Kago' (Human Taxi)
for carrying a priest is on display here.
Normally
a kago is a type of litter used
as a means of human transportation
by
the non-samurai class in feudal Japan and into the Meiji
period.
The
kago should not be confused with the more elaborate norimono
which
were used by the samurai class and wealthy individuals.
Therefore this Kago is close to norimono rather than just a Kako. |

Photography in Rice Storehouse is prohibited, but we can enter the Storehouse.
For me, Takayama Jinya was a good choice to have picked in our limited time.
