この奈良旅行でキトラ古墳を知りました。

キトラ古墳は、奈良県高市郡明日香村 (タカイチグン アスカムラ)にあり、高松塚古墳の約1Km南にあります。

明日香村のサイト：★には、キトラ古墳や高松塚古墳だけでなく、たくさんの古墳に関する情報があり、驚きました。

驚くのは、私が無知なせいで、一般的には、明日香村は、中央集権律令国家の誕生の地"であり、"飛鳥時代の宮殿や史跡が多く発掘されていることで知られ、「日本の心の故郷」とも紹介されるようなので、明日香村のサイトに多くの古墳情報があるのは当然なのでした。

Ancient Tumulus 
I first heard about Kitora Tumulus in this Nara trip.

Kitora Tumulus is located in Asuka Village, Takaichi-gun, Nara Prefecture and about 1Km to the south of Takamatsuzuka Tumulus.

I was surprised by Asuka village site : ★ (in English)  because the information is not only about Kitora Tumulus and Takamatsuzuka Tumulus but also other many ancient Tumuli.

I was surprised because I am ignorant, because it is fairly common knowledge that Asuka village was the birthplace of the "Centralized Law State" : "Centralized Ritsuryō Nation" and it is known that many palaces and historic sites from the Asuka Period have been excavated.

Asuka is known as "the Hometown of the Heart of Japan", so of course there is a lot of  information about the many ancient Tumuli on the site of Asuka village.

"国営飛鳥歴史公園" (英語版 ; 日本語版を見つけられませんでした) の冊子(下)を見つけ、興味が惹かれる石の数々が紹介されています。

私にとって、奈良は京都よりも興味深い地かもしれないな〜と、最終日の後半になって思いました。

それは京都の歴史よりも古いので、不明な点が多く、想像の余地をより多く残していることや、原始的な要素がより多くあることなどが、私にとっては、奈良は、より魅力的に感じられるのです。(京都は京都で素晴らしいですが）

'アスカ' という言葉の響きに、すでに、ファンタジーを感じます。

There is Fantasy...

I found a leaflet of the "National Asuka Historical Park" (English version ; I could not find Japanese version), and a lot of interesting stones are introduced.

In the afternoon of our last day in Nara I felt 'Nara' might be a more interesting place than Kyoto.

Probably the reason is that Nara's history is older than Kyotos', so there are many unclear points, leaving more room for imagination and having more primitive elements, for me Nara is more attractive. (Kyoto is wonderful, as Kyoto.)

I already feel fantasy in the sound of 'ASUKA'.

いつか、この石たちを訪ねる旅をしたいです。
Someday, I would like to travel to see these stones.

2) 四神と天体 / Four Gods and Astronomical Chart

キトラ古墳の内部は、東西南北の四壁の中央に四神 (シジン) の

青龍 (セイリュウ)

白虎 (ビャッコ)

朱雀 (スザク)

玄武 (ゲンブ) 

が描かれています。

私の大好きな四神！

四神の下に、動物の頭と人間の体で十二支をあらわした獣頭人身像が描かれてもいます。

天井には、天文図が描かれていました。素敵すぎです。

現在、7世紀末から8世紀初め頃に作られた古墳であると見られています。

Four Gods and Astronomical Chart

The Kitora Tumulus is painted inside with the Four Gods : Four Symbols, one on each wall in the east, west, south and north ; 

Azure Dragon : Seiryu,

White Tiger : Byakko

Vermilion Bird : Suzaku

Black Tortoise : Genbu.

My favorite Four Gods!

In addition, the Twelve Branches animals-headed figures with human body are painted under the Four Gods on the walls.

On the ceiling, an astronomical chart was drawn. 

It is too wonderful! It is currently thought that the Ancient Tumulus was made around the end of the 7th Century to the beginning of the 8th Century.

館内 / Inside

体験館の目玉は、原寸模型(下)ですが、私はツアーの一人として入場したので、この場所があまりに混み合っていたので、中に入って見ることはしませんでした。

館内は、ディスプレイも内容も工夫されているのを感じましたが、混み合い方と見学時間の短さのために、落ち着いて見ることは私にはできませんでした。

実際の古墳現場は、体験館の裏山にあるので、館内見学はそこそこにし、そちらへ行きました。

The inside is about 1 m in width, about 2.6 m in length, about 1.3 m in height.

実際の壁画は、ある期間のみ見ることができますが、
この時は見ることはできませんでした。

Actual mural paintings can be seen only for a certain period, 
but at this time they could not be seen.

The centerpiece of the Experience Hall is this real size model chamber, though as I entered the museum as one of our tour group, here was so crowded that I did not go inside and see it.

In the hall, I felt that the display and the contents were good, but because of the crowd and the short visiting time, I could not see there calmly.

Since the actual tomb scene is located behind the Experience Hall, I looked at inside hurriedly, I went outside for the actual Tumulus.

The inside is about 1 m in width, about 2.6 m in length, about 1.3 m in height.

Top : It is a round tumulus constructed with a double-terraced domed mound.

おまけ/ Extra

"Brass-rubbing"

キトラ古墳の白虎の原寸の図柄なのですが、雨のせいでよく見えませんね。
This is a real-size pattern of the White Tiger in the Kitora Tumulus
 although it cannot be seen well because of rain.
