Fledermaus』は、全3幕のオペレッタで
リチャード・ジェネイ / Richard
Genée (1823 - 1895) が台本を担当しました。
同年アン・デア・ウィーン劇場 / Theater
an der Wien で初演されました。
そしてほぼ、喜劇です。
(1858年パリで初演)
です。
ヨハン・シュトラウス2世は、台本を渡された後、6週間でこの作品を書き上げたと言われています。

Background - 1
『Die
Fledermaus』 (The
Bat) is an operetta composed
by Johann
Strauss II in
1874, to libretto by Karl
Haffner (1804
-1874) and Richard
Genée (1823 - 1895).
The premiere was in Theater an der Wien that same year.
It consists of 3 Acts.
I found out that an operetta is an opera with serifs and dance, and mostly comedy.
The pioneer of operetta was Jacques Offenbach (1819 - 1880), his representative work was 『Orphéeauxenfers / Orpheus in the Underworld』(1858, the premiere in Paris).
「The Waltz King」Johann Strauss II composed "The Blue Danube" in1867,
later he started composing operettas.
"The
Blue Danube" →★ (You
can see a ballet
performance in The Belvedere.)
They say that he completed 『Die Fledermaus』in 6 weeks, after he had got the libretto.

ロデリヒ・ベンディックス / Julius Roderich Benedix (1811 - 1873) の喜劇
『牢獄』/ 『Das
Gefängnis 』 / 『The
Prison』（1851) が原作です。
それをもとにして
アンリ・メイヤック/ Henri Meilhac (1831 - 1897) と
『こうもり』は、ウィンナ・オペレッタの中で最高傑作とされている作品になります。
私はチケットを購入するまで、この作品を知りませんでした。
『こうもり』は大晦日のお話なので、ドイツ語圏の歌劇場では大晦日の上演が恒例になっています。
知らないことがたくさん、初めて知ることもたくさん....。
実際、ウィーン国立歌劇場でも、1897年に
グスタフ・マーラー / Gustav
Mahler (1860 - 1911) が音楽監督に就任し、改革を始め、『こうもり』を正式にレパートリーに加えるまで、オペレッタが上演されたことはありませんでした。

Background - 2
The libretto has a little history.
The original was a Comedy『Das Gefängnis 』 / 『The Prison』(1851) by
Julius Roderich Benedix (1811 - 1873).
A Play 『Le Réveillon』1872 by Henri Meilhac (1831 - 1897) and
The libretto of『Die Fledermaus』 by
Karl Haffner (1804 -1874) and Richard Genée (1823 - 1895) was based on
『Le Réveillon』.
『Die Fledermaus』 became the most popular masterpiece of Vienna Operetta.
I did not know the work until we bought tickets.
The story is set at the end of year, so some theatres in German language countries play this on December 31st every year.
I do not know many things, though I come to know many new things....
They had (have) decided operetta's status is lower than Opera, so that they have not had performances in big theatres for a long time.
Actually the Vienna State Opera did not have an operetta until
Gustav Mahler (1860 - 1911) became music director, reorganized and added
『Die Fledermaus』to their formal repertory in 1897.
Nowadays, the Vienna State Opera has a program: 『Die Fledermaus』on December 31st every year.

C. 感想 / Review
劇場は、昨日と同じ、ウィーン・フォルクスオーパー / Volksoper
Wien です。
この日は迷わずに到着。
2階席 (バルコニー) 、舞台正面、最前列でした。
手すりが演目を見るには、少々邪魔で、知っている人は最前列を避けるのではないかと思いました。
まあ、私にとっては、劇場も物珍しいので、劇場や観客やオーケストラを見るには良かったです。
セリフはドイツ語で全くわかりませんが、ドタバタ喜劇であることは理解できます。
セリフに時世にあった内容を盛り込むことも多々あり、その時代にあった笑いが提供されるようです。
場内に笑いがおきても、私は蚊帳の外！
それに、ファンタジーではないし、いわゆるゴシップ話で、だんだん話に興味がわかなくなりました。
人間いじけると、ネガティブな見方になってゆきます...(言い訳か？<苦笑>)
おもしろそうな場面なのに、雰囲気はコミカルなのに、内容が理解できず、ストレスがちょっと溜まりました。
言葉がわかれば、もっと『こうもり』を楽しめたと思います。
『こうもり』で一番良かったのは、バレエです。
バレエは好きで、バレエ映画やバレエ作品をDVDなどで結構見ていましたし友人の舞台なども見に行きました。
でも、実際のプロのバレエを舞台で見たのは、これが初めてでした。
ということに、今、気がつきました....(笑)。
喜劇の中のバレエでしたが、美しく、素晴らしく、レベルの高さも感じました。
登場人物もたくさん、衣装も素敵！ハッピーエンド！フィナーレは豪華！

キラキラキラの世界です。
大晦日にこれを見たいと思う人がたくさんいることがとてもよくわかります。
それでも、私は『魔笛』のほうが好きです。
言葉が理解できたとしても、ファンタジー好きの私は、『魔笛』の方に惹かれるでしょう。

Review
The
theatre was Volksoper
Wien, as
yesterday.
We got there without getting lost.
We had a Viennese sparkling wine (KATTUS)
in the bar.
The seats were in the centre of the front row of the
balcony where
the railing disturbed our view, so
I think if people knew it they would avoid the front row.
Well, for
me the theatre was unusual so it was good for looking at the
theatre, audience and the orchestra.
They spoke in German so I did not understand but I understood that was slapstick comedy.
I heard that sometimes the lines include modern references suitable to today and then they give extra comic effects.
As with 『The Magic Flute』I had read the story summary before,
however, for me, the German talking was longer, the songs were less than『The Magic Flute』and
I felt a language barrier.

Even though most in the theatre laughed I was not involved
in this at all.
Moreover, it is not fantasy, it is a so-called gossip
story, so I gradually lost my interest for the story.
I know most
of opera's stories are like gossip type of story whether Greek mythology or Roman mythology.....I became perverse so I was tending to become critical.
When we are perverse we tend to take a negative view.......

The scenes seemed to be fun and
the atmosphere was comical although I did not understand the contents
and my stress built up.
I think if I understand words I could enjoy『Die
Fledermaus』more.
For me, their ballet was the most enjoyable part of『Die
Fledermaus』.
I like ballet, I occasionally watch ballet films and ballet works on DVD and went to see a friend's performance.
However, this was the first
time I saw the real ballet.... I realized it now. (laugh)
Even though the ballet was in the comedy it was beautiful, wonderful
and I felt they were high level.
There are many characters, the
costumes are lovely, the story has a happy ending and the finale is
gorgeous!
The world is glittering.
I really understand that many people
would see this at the end of year.

劇場のあとで、ちょっとどこかによって一杯！ということがひ弱な私達にはできず、そそくさと2晩ともホテルへ戻ってきました。
近くのスーパーマーケットで買ったビールやワインを部屋で乾杯！
After the theatres, we could not pop in somewhere for a glass of something, because we are weak.
Both nights we went straight back to our room in the hotel.
Cheers!
We had beer or wine which we had bought at a near-by supermarket.

| ホテルでオペラの余韻に浸りつつ... I felt the opera lingering on in my mind with R after the performance was over.  綺麗なさくらんぼ色のビールですが、甘くはありません。 The colour is beautiful cherry colour, although the taste is not sweet. |

| チェコ旅行を思い出しつつ、チェコのビールを飲みました。 We had Czech beer while I remembered our Czech Trip. |

このワインは劇場のもよりも格下です。
でも美味しく飲みました！
in the supermarket and had some after the operetta.
This wine quality is lower than the theatre's one.
However, I enjoyed it!
