Nottinghamshire

We stayed in a B&B while we were moving from the North Yorkshire to London, 23rd of August.

I selected B&B : The Grange Bed and Breakfast in Nottinghamshire, because the place suited my plan which we would pop into Cambridge before London.
The Grange B&B's Website：★

Nottinghamshire is located almost in the middle of Britain and one of East Midland's
counties.

We visited Robin Hood's Bay on 22nd of August, as it happens, we visited Robin Hood's home country Nottinghamshire.

Even though I said 'visited', we could not visit Nottingham, just stayed at the B&B close to there.

Could I visit Sherwood Forest one day?

2) 旗の意味 / Meaning of Flags

ノッティンガムシャーの旗
ロビン・フッドがデザインされています。
いいな〜、こういう発想。
ちなみに、私にとって、ファンタジーのシンボルは、ドラゴンです。
ドラゴンはウェールズの旗に起用されています(下の画像)。
ただし、このドラゴン自体が私のファンタジーのシンボルというわけでは
ありません。

Robin Hood is in the design. It's a good idea for me ~~!
By the way, for me, a dragon is a symbol of fantasy,
and a dragon is in the flag of Wales, below.
But this dragon in itself is not a symbol of my fantasy.

ウェールズの旗

今まで意識しませんでしたが、このドラゴンは、

「どこからでもかかってこい！」

という戦闘態勢を表していると感じます。

もちろん、その相手はイングランドです(笑)。

ウェールズ魂、独立精神を表現しているのでしょう。

そう思うと、ロビン・フッドも似たような意味なのかと思います。

ノッティンガムシャーの敵は、'悪政'に違いありません。

同じ戦闘態勢を示すのでも、剣そのものを使用するよりも、

ロビン・フッドやドラゴンを用いる発想が私は好き。

Wales' Flag

I had not thought about this before, but now I feel this dragon shows us

「Bring it on! Anywhere!」

This means combat ready. Of course their enemy is England! (laugh)

It must be Welsh Spirit and Independent Mind.

After I thought this, I now think Robin Hood has a similar meaning.

However, the enemy of Nottinghamshire must be 'Misgovernment'.

I prefer to use Robin Hood or a Dragon rather than a sword for combat ready.

3) 'ザ・グレインジ・ベッド・アンド・ブレックファースト'
'The Grange Bed and Breakfast'

B&B' Website : ★

周囲はカントリーサイドですが、ここと、
お隣はかなり豪華なモダンな建物でした。

The surroundings are countryside,
although here and next-doors are gorgeous and modern buildings.

理想を追う
これらのマークに、このB&Bの意気込みが感じられます。
実際、オーナーの一人、ブレンダ/ Brenda が
自分の理想とするB&Bにしようとしているのが感じられました。
それは彼女自身からも、お客への接し方からも、
部屋のすみずみに用意されているもの達からも感じられます。
彼女の好みと私の好みは違うのですが、
違ったとしてもこのB&Bのあり方に好意を持ちます。
好みの違いは庭にある置物などを見ると明らかです。
庭や部屋などについては、次のセクションに載せます。

Following the Ideals
These marks show me this B&B's enthusiasm.
Actually, I felt one of owners, Brenda does her best to create her ideal B&B
from her services, herself and things in every corner of the rooms.
Her taste and my taste are different, though I feel kindly toward her B&B.
Our difference in taste is obvious when I looked at things in the garden.
I will write and show the garden in the next section.

ブレンダのご主人のドン・マッソン/ Don Masson (1946 - ) 氏は、

元プロのサッカー選手でした。
彼はスコットランド生まれで、ミドルズブラで少年期を過ごしました。
スコットランドでもミドルズブラでもサッカーを続け、
ミドルズブラFC / Middlesbrough Football Club の選手になりました。
その後いろいろな経験をし、現在ではこのB&Bのオーナーになっています。

It was a coincidence that we moved from Middlesbrough today, 23rd of August.

B&Bの進展 / Improving B&B

今まで利用してきたB&Bのいくつかは、古い建物を改築して
そのオーナーの理想の建物にしていました。
彼らはオリジナルの良さを生かしつつ、新しい機能や現代の技術を用いて
自分たちのB＆Bを作っていました。
ここのオーナーもそういう人たちです。

We have stayed in a few B&B where they have reconstructed old buildings
and made their ideal.
They have kept good original things as well as used new functions with modern techniques or skills and then they made their ideal B&B.
These owners, too.
