❶ - 1)サセックスの旅 - ウェイクハースト / The Trip in Sussex - Wakehurst, 27th of August in 2013

サセックスは英国本土南東の歴史的カウンティ(県)です。

2013年8月27日、Alfriston (アルフリストン）という村をめざしてにウィンブルドンの自宅を出発しました。

途中、西サセックスにある、ナショナル•トラスト所有で王立植物園の
キューガーデンが経営する
『Wakehurst Place (ウェクハーストプレイス）』
に寄りました。

私はキュー•ガーデンはリッチモンドのキューガーデンしか知りませんでしたし、
思いつきのようなきっかけでここに寄ったので、こんなに広いところであるのを知りませんでした。

Wakehurst Place は、広大な敷地の中に、管理された森林(林地）、エリザベス調の館、様々なタイプのガーデン、造形物などがあります。

敷地は、465エーカー = 約1.9k㎡ (500 または600エーカーと表示してあるサイトもあります）ということですが、私にはにわかには想像がつきません。

どのくらいか? といいますと、鎌倉市は39.6k㎡、東京都は2,88.7k㎡という敷地と
比べるとちょっとわかります(？)。

サセックスへの旅の初日と最終日に寄りましたが、それでも、とてもとてもすべてを見ることも歩くこともできませんでした。

Millennium Seed Bank

2000年にオープンされた国際的な(世界最大の)種子銀行である

も行きたかったのですが、残念ながらかなわず.....

It was opened in 2000, this seed bank is the biggest in the world.

I wanted to visit there : ★, although I could not make it, that's too bad.

Wakehurst Place

We went to towards Alfriston from our house in Wimbledon on 27th of August in 2013.

On the way, we popped in to Wakehurst Place which is a property of the National Trust and managed by Kew Gardens.

I only knew Kew Gardens in Richmond : Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and we stopped here out of curiosity, just a casual idea, so I did not know there are extensive grounds.

There are woodlands, gardens of various types, an Elizabethan mansion and many objects.

They say Wakehurst Place is situated in 465 acres (about 1.9k㎡)(somebody says 500 or 600 acres), however, I did not imagine it would be so big.

You can compare to Kamakura city 39.6k㎡ and Tokyo to 2,88.7k㎡.
