個展後の庭 / My Garden After My Exhibition, 20th of April to 8th of May, 2015

フクシア
フクシアを英国ではよく見かけますし、とても大きいものもあります。
日本の気候にあわないのか、新しい品種だからなのか、
日本では大きなものを見かけません。
自分の鉢植えでも良い状態の時期はとても短いです。

Fuchsia
I see often Fuchsia in Britain and sometimes they are big,
 though I do not see big ones in Japan.
They might not suit Japanese climate or a newly identified species in Japan.
My Fuchsia in a pot blossoms well for a very short time.

思いも寄らぬところから咲いて、ふっと心が和みます。

It blossoms in an unexpected spot which heals me.

シラン(紫蘭)
シランは二階堂よりも、鎌倉山の気候があっているようです。

Hyacinth Orchid
Hyacinth orchid seems to suit Kamakurayama climate more than Nikaido one.

シャガ / Iris japonica 

桜桃 (オウトウ/ さくらんぼ)の 花
Cherry's Flowers

さくらんぼの実は鳥やリスに食べられて、未だに食べたことがありません。

I haven't eaten the cherries, because birds or squirrels eat before us.

大口開けて食べてます。

The bird makes its mouth biggest for eating

５月の空 / The Sky in May

裏庭の木
Back Garden Tree

白い花を咲かせて楽しませてくれます。
でも短い期間なのです。

The tree had white flowers which gave me pleasure.
However, the blossom is for a very short time.

2015年５月3日N家訪問 / Visit N Family, 3rd of May, 2015

以前住んでいた鎌倉の二階堂でお隣であったN家に招待されました。

昨年の5月に一度招待されていたのですが、急に私達が渡英することいなり、その話は

流れてしまったのです。

律儀な彼らは、きちんと覚えていて、今年、あらためてまた招待してくださったのです。

暖かな、心のこもった歓迎に感謝してもしきれません。

本当に、ありがとうございます。

N family were our next-door neighbours in Nikaido in Kamakura while we lived there.

They invited us for a meal on 3rd of May, 2015.

Actually they invited us last May, although suddenly we had to go to Britain and the chance had gone.

They are faithful, kind and remembered it, so they invited us again this year.

I cannot find how to say 'Thank You!' who welcome us with warm hearts.

We heard that the two girls helped with the dishes a lot this time.

⓬東北旅行 / Tōhoku Trip - 5) 仙台; 甘味処; 彦いち / Sendai ; Sweet Cafe; Hikoichi , 28th of April, 2015

仙台に来て、夕方までカフェに入っていないという、私達にしては珍しい旅行です。

仙台在住経験のある友人M、オススメの"甘味処彦いち" : ★ に行きました。

場所のリサーチをしたのに関わらず、迷ってしまいました。

路地の中にあり、その路地がわかりませんでした。

地元の女性に聞くと、お店の前まで連れて行ってくださいました。感動！

ありがとうございました。

After we came to Sendai, we did not go in any cafe until that evening and this was very unusual in our trips.

We went to a sweet cafe, " Hikoichi " suggested by M, one of my friends, who had lived in Sendai  for a few years.

I researched the place, although I could not find it.

The cafe is along an alley, I could not find the alley.

When I asked a local woman, she took us in front of the cafe. Impressed!

They use a building which used to be a traditional Japanese restaurant.
You can keep your shoes on.

観光客なら、一度は足を運んで良い処だと思いました。
地元民でもファンの方はたくさんいらしゃるようです。

I think if you are a tourist, you should go at least once.
They seem to have many local fans.

中庭 / Courtyard

私は、仙台名物、ずんだ餅をいただきました。
ずんだ餅、初めて食べました。材料は枝豆です。
フレッシュ！で甘い！疲れた体にぴったりでしたよ。
世の中には、まだまだ未経験の食べ物がたくさん、あるのですね〜。
Rも美味しいと言ってました。

I had a bowl of Zunda-mochi which is a well known product of Sendai.
This was the first time for me. An ingredient is Edamame.
Fresh taste and sweet! It suited my tired body!
There are many untried foods all over the world, aren't there?
R said nice!

R はメニューの写真のコレに惹かれて注文。
美味しそうに食べてました。
最後にコーヒーも。

R had this, the photograph in their menu tempted him .
He ate this and looked happy.
Lastly he had a cup of coffee. 

スィーツで英気を養って、アーケードの商店街を通り、仙台駅まで歩きました。

アーケードが大きいのは、雪防止のためでしょうか？

甘味処で旅行を締めくくるのは、私達らしいといえば、らしいのかも？

We restored our energy by sweets and we walked through shopping arcade streets to JR Sendai Station .

Is the arcade huge for snow protection?

Sweets made the end of our trip, this really is one of our trips, isn't it?

⓫東北旅行 / Tōhoku Trip - 4) 仙台; 定禅寺通り / Sendai ; Jyouzen-ji Street , 28th of April, 2015

"定禅寺通り "(ジョウゼンジドウリ) は仙台在住のHさんから薦められていました。

"るーぶる仙台"を降りると(メディアアーク前: マップ ⓭)、見事なケヤキ、イチョウの並木道。

木々の高さにびっくりしました。

英国では見たことがある高さですが、日本では私は初めてのサイズの並木道でした。

もとは、定禅寺 (ジョウゼンジ) の参道でしたが、このお寺が廃寺 (ハイジ) 後も、

通りは残り、今では、さまざまなイベントが行われています。

メディアアークのショップで、いくつかお土産を買いました。

カメラのバッテリー切れで、携帯電話のカメラで撮影しました。

My camera's charge had gone, so I used my mobile phone camera.

 H San who lives in Sendai, recommended Jyouzen-ji Street.

After I got off "Loople Sendai" bus (at Mediathequ: map ⓭), there is great tree lined boulevarde.

Trees are Zelkova serrata and Ginko, I was surprised by their height.

I have seen trees this size in Britain, although it was the first time for me to see trees this high in Japan.

This street was originally the approach to Hojo-ji Temple, however, after the Temple closed, they kept the street and a few events are held there nowadays.

I bought some souvenirs in a shop, Sendai Mediathequ.

I would see more places there, although we did not have enough time so I felt some regret.

お城をくだって行く

Going Down from the Castle

道には木々がたくさんあります。
The road has many trees.

お城から緑の道をくだると、仙台市博物館裏に出ます。

そこで見つけたのが、伊達政宗像です(下の写真)。

We walked down the road from Sendai Castle in a 'green tunnel' and came out in the back garden of Sendai City Museum.

I found another Masamune Statue there (below photograph).

(ぼけててすみません)
後に知りましたが、この政宗像は以前、仙台城に馬に乗った姿でありました。
第二次世界大戦中、軍が回収、溶解し再利用しました。
軍の意向か誰かの個人的意志なのか不明ですが、半身だけが残り、
1978年に博物館の裏庭に設置されました。
2005年に修復されここに戻りました。

当時の様子をいろいろと想像してしまうできごとです。

The first Masamune Statue

Later I found out this is part of the first equestrian statue from Sendai castle.
During the World War II, the Japanese Army collected metal statues 
from all over Japan, melted and reused, and this was too.
However, nobody knows the whole truth anyway,
 only this was left and set here in 1978.
In 2005, it was repaired and returned here.
I still wonder about the true story at that time.

私達の目的は、ここでのランチ。

展示会などもしていましたが、今回は時間がないのでパス。

本日中に、仙台から鎌倉まで帰る予定なのでした。

Our purpose was to have our lunch here.

There were some exhibitions although we did not visit, because we did not have enough time.

Our plan was to return from Sendai to Kamakura that day.

After lunch, we came into the garden again.
I found an interesting place.
What is here...?

お城下には

五色沼 (ゴシキヌマ)
日本フュギュアスケートの発祥の地
14世紀半ばから16世紀半ばまで、小氷期 (ショウヒョウキ) であったので、
江戸時代 (1603 - 1868) には、冬には十分な氷が張っていました。
現在は厳冬期に氷は張るもの、スケートができるほどではありません。

Goshiki Pond
This was the birthplace of Japanese figure skating.
From the mid 14th century to the mid 16th century, here was Little Ice Age,
so winters in the Edo period (1603 -1868), here were freezing.
Nowadays here has ice in the coldest period, although it is not enough for skating.
