私は、ジェシカ ・ストックホールダー / Jessica Stockholder (1959 ~) というアーティストを、ユトレヒトのセントラル博物館 / Centraal Museumで開催された展覧会で知りました。

私は、彼女の作品が、この展覧会が好きでした。

彼女は、彫刻家およびインスタレーション・アーティストで、 様々な境界を曖昧にし、空間を遮 (サエギ) らず、広げてゆく作品制作をしています。
カナダのビクトリア大学で学士号(B.F.A)を、イェール大 学(Yale School of Art ) で修士号(MFA)を取得しています。
1999年から2011年まで、ストックホールダー はイェール大学(Yale School of Art )で彫刻の大学院研究の所長と教授を務めていました。
2010年に、エミリー・カー・カレッジ・オブ・アート( Emily Carr College of Art) から名誉芸術博士号を授与されています。
彼女は現在、シカゴ大学の視覚芸術学部 (DOVA) の教授をしています。

I got to know of an artist named Jessica Stockholder (1959 ~) in this exhibition held in the Centraal Museum in Utrecht.

She is a sculptor and installation artist, creating works that obscure boundaries and open up spaces without obstructing them.
She holds a Bachelor's degree (B.F.A) from University of Victoria in Canada and a Master's degree (MFA) from Yale University.
From 1999 to 2011, Stockholder was the Director and Professor of Postgraduate Studies in Sculpture in Yale University (Yale School of Art )).
In 2010, she was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Arts by Emily Carr College of Art.
She is currently a Professor at the Department of Visual Arts (DOVA) at the University of Chicago.

ジェシカ ・ストックホールダーの作品は、多数のギャラリーや美術館で展示されています。
ヨーロッパとアメリカでは、多くの展覧会を開催されていますが、日本ではまだのようです。
少なくとも、私は日本で開催された情報を見つけることができませんでした。
彼女は新人ではないので、アートの世界の人であったり、アートに興味がある人なら、ある程度の人は知っていたはずです。

境界好きな？日本人、または、学芸員には彼女の作品を受け入れることが難しいのでしょうか？
ですが、境界好きの傾向にあり、単一民族で1つの思考にとらわれがちだからこそ、彼女の作品は刺激になると思うのです。
日本のどこかで彼女の展覧会をして欲しいと思います...。

Not Yet in Japan ...
Her works are displayed in many galleries and museums.
She has held many exhibitions in Europe and America, but not yet in Japan.
At least I couldn't find any information held in Japan.
She's not a newcomer, so if you're a person in the art world, or if you're interested in art, then a few people should know.

Japanese intend to like boundaries (?), so is it difficult for Japanese or Japanese curators to accept her works?
However, I think her work is inspiring because Japanese tend to like boundaries and tend to be trapped in one thought in a single ethnic group.
I want her to do an exhibition somewhere in Japan.

3) 博物館とともに? / With Museum?
展覧会では、博物館所蔵の作品とのコラボレーションがあり、彼女自身が所蔵品から作品を選択し、再構成を試み、新作を制作しています。
この博物館で、この時期だけの展示と、空間制作です。
アートが担う(と私は思っている)、既成概念を崩す姿勢がそこにはあります。
他のアーティストの作品を自分のセンスと呼応させているのだと思います。
鏡の多用に、呼応の意思を感じます。
再構成された彼女の作品には、カラの空間があり、それは見たものの想像力をも取り込むスペースを残しているように感じます。
また、現代アートにありがちな、作品を一から作るのでなく、他のものを持ってきて違う意味として提示させ、私達に問いかけるのです。
柔軟な思考が彼女の武器なのでしょう。
With Museum?
It the Exhibition, she collaborated with the Museum collection, where she selected works from the collection, tried to arrange, and created new works.
In this museum, only for this period, they were displayed and created space.
Here was an attitude that art takes (I think) and breaks the preconceived ideas.
I think she responds to the work of other artists with her sense.
I feel her response in the numerous use of the mirrors.
Her reconstructed work has an empty space, which feels like leaving a space to capture the imagination of what you see.
Also, instead of making works from scratch, which is often the case with contemporary art, artists bring something from somewhere and make different meanings, then show and ask us.
I think her flexible thought is her weapon.
4) ふと... / Suddenly...
ふと、ユトレヒト駅近くにあった、海のゴミで構成されたクジラのオブジェを思い出しました。
あのアメリカの制作者は、ストックホールダー に影響を受けたのかもしれないという推測が湧いてきました。
ただ、あのストレートさは、ストックホールダーのアート作品への姿勢とは違うな〜感じます。
Suddenly...
Suddenly, I remembered an object of a whale near the Utrecht station, which was composed of rubbish from the sea.
I'm afraid that American producer may have been influenced by Stockholder.
However, I feel that straightness is different from the attitude of Stockholder towards art works.
