この日は、アイルランドの中心を東 (ダブリン) から西 (ゴールウェイ) へ横断する
旅程です。

オファリー州 / County Offaly にある 'クロンマクノイズ / Clonmacnoise' をあとにし、引き続き西へ向かいます。

On this day, our plan was to cross the centre of Ireland from east (Dublin) to west (Galway).

After 'Clonmacnoise' in County Offaly, we continued going west.

                 西 : ゴールウェイ / West : Galway  ----- Clonmacnoise -----  東 : ダブリン / East : Dublin 

オファリー州 とロスコモン州 / County Roscommon の州境いに、
シャノン川があり、'シャノン橋 / Shannonbridge' が架かっています。

その橋を車で渡っている最中に、ちょっと気になる建物を見かけました。

The Shannon River is in the boundary between County Offaly 

and County Roscommon and 'Shannonbridge' spans the river.

While we were crossing the bridge by car, I saw a building I was curious about.

改装して現在はレストランになっているようです。

It was redecorated and seems to be a restaurant.

ここは19世紀はじめに建てられた要塞でした。
Here were fortifications built in the early 19th Century. 

'シャノン橋 / Shannonbridge' をロスコモン州側から
川は、シャノン川。

From Rosccommon side to 'Shannonbridge' 
The river is the  River Shannon.

中之島は、'子羊島 : Lambs Island'. 

この島は、'ロング島 / Long Island' の一角で、先っちょのこの部分だけに

'子羊島 : Lambs Island'という名前が付いています。

可愛らしいアイディアの名前です。

That Islet is 'Lambs Island'：★

This Island is a part of 'Long Island', only this tip is named 'Lambs Island'. 
It's a cute name idea.

白鳥 / Swans 

川辺に降りられるので、行ってみました。
We could go down to the riverside, so why don't we?

私は、川や橋が好きです。

I like rivers and bridges.

上流に'クロンマクノイズ' やアスローン / Athloneがあります
Upstream are 'Clonmacnoise' and Athlone.

シャノン川 

シャノン川はアイルランドで最長の川 (386km)です。
川の名前は、ケルトの女神、シオンナに由来します。
ここはアスローン / Athlone、バナガー / Banagher、バリンナスロー / Ballinasloe

  の中間地点になります。

The River is the longest river in Ireland, 386km.
The river is named after Sionna, a Celtic goddess.
