百貨店がジョンルイス、

スーパーマーケットがウエイトローズ

のチェーン店で、良品質の商品を扱っています。

ジョンルイスのいくつかの店は、王室御用達店です。

ここの最たる特色は、経営者兼従業員で利益を分ける

共同組合として組織がなりたっているところです。

John Lewis and Waitrose in Kingston

John Lewis is a department store, Waitrose is their supermarket, they are chain and they deal with good quality things. 

Some of their stores have Royal Warrants.

Their distinguishing characteristic is that they are a partnership owned by the employees who share the profit.

1) John Lewis

彼らのスローガンは、
''Never Knowingly Undersold" 
として、知られています。

実はこの英語がまわりくどいので、私が理解するのにRの説明が必要でした。

ジョン ルイスではどこよりも安く商品を売り、
お客側が他店の安い価格を知らせれば値引きをするのだそうです。

また、購入後でさえも、それが判明して知らせれば差額を返金してくれるそうです。

どの程度の購入後の期間かはわかりませんが……。

『私達はお客さんに対して誠実です』
ということではないでしょうか？

私が知る限りでいうと、日本の大型電気店：種類が豊富、安く、はやく、というような店がないので、ジョン ルイスは百貨店でありながら、需要があるので、電気製品売り場も充実しています。

もちろんネットでも電話でも彼らは受け付けています。

Their slogan is known ''Never Knowingly Undersold" . 

Britain does not have big electronic shops of which Japan has a lot ; huge ranges, cheaper and quicker, as far as 
I know in Britain. 

So John Lewis have quite a few electronic things, although they are department stores. 

They sell things by Internet and phone. 

(Japanese department stores do not have big ranges and their electronic things are not so cheap.)

many people have coffee as much as, or more than, tea.

Japanese are surprised by the quantities of them.

お芋

山芋タイプはこちらにはありません。

因にRは粘りけのある芋類も大好きで、生でも喜んで食べます。

 Potatoes

There is no type of YAMAIMO: sticky potato which you can eat raw. 

By the way, R loves sticky potato and enjoys raw, too.

ビートルートゥ 

私は好きな野菜ですが、だいたいは下準備がすんだ茹でたものを買ってしまいます。

赤紫の強い色で甘い味です。

 Beetroot

I like them and I always buy boiled beetroot. 

They are a strong red purple colour and the taste is sweet.

セレリィアック

私はまだ料理に使用したことがありません。
どうやって食べるのかも知りません。
セロリと株の間の味だそうです……。

Celeriac

I haven't cooked them and 

I do not know how to use them. 

I heard about the taste which is between celery and turnips.

パースニップス

白い人参のようでしょう？
日本で見た事がありません。
味はサツマイモのようで、ハーヴのような香りがする

と私は思います。

 Parsnips

They look like white carrots, don't they? 
I have never seen them in Japan. 

I think the taste is similar to sweet potato and 
I think they have a herb-like smell.

こちらはまだまだ乾燥豆がたくさん棚にあります。

In Japan, dried beans are in poor demand now, in Britain, 
there are still many dried bean on their shelves.

パック商品もありますが、個別に買うこともできます。

 Fishmonger and Butcher
They sell fish and meat by weight.

ケーキ

おもちゃのようですが、食べられます。

私は買ったことも食べたこともありませんが……。

Cakes

They look like toys, although you can eat them. 

However, I haven't bought or eaten them.
