I Wanted to See the Garden
3泊4日のこの旅は、基本的にはRのために企画しました。
ですが、この "Great Dixter / グレード•ディクスター" 訪問は、私の希望です。
ここは、ナショナル•トラストもイングリッシュ•ヘリテッジも管理しているわけでもなく、ロイド家及びクリストファー•ハミルトン•ロイド/ Lloyd Hamilton Christopher (1921 - 2006) により優れた庭が作られ一般公開され、現在はグレート•ディクスター協会とファンガス•ガレット / Fergus Garrettの下にあります。
私の知る限りの文学作品に関係しているわけでもありません。
クリストファー•ハミルトン•ロイドはガーデンライターでしたので、彼やその職種の人々によって、この地が書かれたものはありますが、私は読んでいませんでした。
ここに来たのは、この庭が有名であり、目的のB&B: 'Iden Coach House / アイデン•コーチ•ハウス'の途上にあるからでした。
そのB&Bの庭は、蒸気機関車のミニチュアが走るように作られているのです。

I Wanted to See the Garden
This three night four days trip was planned for R.
However, visiting "Great Dixter" was my hope.
Here is not managed by National Trust or English Heritage, it's garden was improved and publicized by Lloyd Family and Lloyd Hamilton Christopher (1921 - 2006), now it is under the stewardship of Fergus Garrett and Great Dixter Charity Trust.
It does not appear in any literature as far as I know.
Lloyd Hamilton Christopher was a garden writer, he and another writers wrote about here, although I hadn't read them.
I only read the pamphlet we bought here which includes some of his writing.
The reason for our visiting here was to see the famous garden, and it was on our way to our purpose : 'Iden Coach House' : B&B.
The B&B's garden was made for a miniature steam railway.

2) 環境 / Environment
南西地方特有の伸びやかな地形の中に、"Great Dixter / グレード•ディクスター" はあります。
"Great Dixter" is in a free and easy landscape which is characteristic of South West Britain.

A. ラッチェンスのデザイン
Lutyens Design
この庭は大陸のヨーロッパのガーデン様式(フランス式庭園とか装飾庭園などと呼ばれるタイプ)とイングリッシュ•ガーデン, コテージ•ガーデンなどがまざりあっている印象を私は持ちました。
ここのガーデンの基本デザインは、建築家のエドウィン•ラッチェンス / Edwin Lutyens 卿 (1869 - 1944) (Sir Edwin from 1918) がし、彼はインドのニューデリーの都市計画の殆どをしました。
このセクションでは、地図右上の紫部分: "High Garden", "Peacock", "Topiary"の写真を載せます。

Lutyens Design
My impression was that I felt this garden is a mixture of French formal garden, English Garden style and Cottage Garden.
The foundation of this garden was designed by an architect, Edwin Lutyens (1869 - 1944) (Sir Edwin from 1918) who was well known for planning large parts of New Delhi in India in 1911.
And also in Britain, he designed many country houses, although most of his works were in association with a garden designer, Gertude Jekyll (1843 - 1932).
"Great Dixter" was one of them.

B. 草木のジャングル / Jungle of Plants

| 草木に囲まれた狭い通路を通ります。 庭を眺めるというよりも、探検する印象。 We walked on narrow paths covered with plants. My impression was that we had to explore the garden rather than look at it. |
B. トピアリー ガーデン/ Topiary Garden
この庭は'Topiary Lawn'とは、また別です。
トピアリーのために多くの敷地をさいているところに、ここがトピアリーに非常に熱心であることがわかります。
個人的にな趣味でいえば、トピアリーはあまり好きではありませんが、それはそれでおもしろく感じる時があります。

Topiary Garden
This garden is different from "Topiary Lawn".
Here uses large spaces for topiary which shows us their strong enthusiasm.
Personally, I do not like topiary so much although sometimes I could feel it is interesting.
