1) 鎌倉宮-例祭準備 

      Prepare for Annual Festival in Kamakura-gu

鎌倉宮は非業な最期を遂げた護良親王(1308-1335)の霊を弔うために、1869年(明治2年)に作られました。

護良親王の命日(８月12日)近くに例祭日(8月19~21日)が設定され、

この祭りは鎌倉宮の中で、最も大切なものとされています。

一番にぎやかなのは、19日前夜祭、盆踊り、お囃子や地元の飲食店が出店し、金魚すくいなどもあるそうです。

私はまだ一度も、このお祭りに行ったことがありません。

今年もどうかな〜？

Prepare for Annual Festival in Kamakura-gu

In 1869, Kamkura-gu was erected by Emperor Meiji  who heard about Prince Moriyoshi (1308-1335) 's unnatural dead. 

The prince died on12th August 1335, so Kamakura-gu has a festival of commemoration 19th~21st of August  every year. 

The festival is the most important for Kamakura-gu.

Most people visit on the 19th, Bon Festival dance : Bon Odori,  music ; OHAYASHI, refreshment booths, goldfish scooping shop and so on. 

I have never visited there.

I wonder if I will go this year.



2) 八幡様の蓮池 
    Lotus Pond in Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu 

初めて、蓮の花(蓮華/ レンゲ)が咲いているのを
正面上から見ました。

It was the first time that 
we saw the open centre of the lotus blossoms and from above . 

ここは源氏池 / Here is Genji Pond.

夏の時期に、八幡様の源平池には一面の蓮が見られます。

本日は、それを見に母と出かけました。

白い蓮が多くピンクはあまり見られません。

ピンクの方がはやめに咲くのかもしれません。

昨年7月に訪れた時は、ピンクの花が主に咲いていたと思います。

Today, I went to there with my Mother to see them.
There are many white ones, although there a few pink ones.
Maybe the pink blossom earlier than the white,
because when I went to there in July last year,
in my memory, there were more pink than white.

と思っていましたが、違いました。

I thought there were all white lotus in Genji Pond and
all pink lotus in Heike Pond, because Genji Family flag was white
and Heike Family flag was red.
However, this was wrong!

4) 精霊馬 / Animals for Spirits to Ride

二階堂で見つけた! 

左端にお線香のあとが...

 I found these in Nikaido.

地方によっては、お盆の期間中には、故人の霊魂がこの世とあの世を行き来するための乗り物として、
「精霊馬」（しょうりょううま）
と呼ばれるきゅうりやナスで作る動物を用意することがある。

4本の麻幹あるいはマッチ棒、折った割り箸などを足に見立てて
差し込み、馬、牛として仏壇まわりや精霊棚に供物とともに配する。

きゅうりは足の速い馬に見立てられ、あの世から早く家に戻ってくるように、また、ナスは歩みの遅い牛に見立てられ、この世から
あの世に帰るのが少しでも遅くなるように、また、供物を牛に乗せてあの世へ持ち帰ってもらうとの願いがそれぞれ込められている。

Animals for Spirits to Ride in Bon Festival

Depending on the district, people may prepare animals made with a cucumber and an aubergine called "Shouryo Uma " 
for spirit ancestors to ride back and forth between this world and the next, during the festival. 

Some people use matchsticks as legs, others snap disposable chopsticks into short pieces. 

These symbolic animals might be placed around Botsudan  or on 
a special tray dedicated to ancestors.

The horse (cucumber) enables the ancestors to travel quickly to this world.

The cow (aubergine) enables the ancestors to travel back to the next world slowly and carrying  offerings.

This is our wish.

5) お供え / Offering 

母が買ったお供えです。

This year, my mother bought this offering.

干菓子' あさがお'
'ASAGAO'  of Higashi : a type of Japanese Sweet,
which contains very little moisture, and thus keeps relatively long.

6) 手ぬぐい / TENUGUI

私が買った手ぬぐい。
この花は睡蓮、蓮ではないですよね？

I bought this Tenugui : Japanese Towel 
These flowers are Water Lilies, they are not Lotus, are they?
Water Lilies and Lotus look similar, but they are different plants.

1) アニメの影響 / Animation Effect on Me

図書館に予約し、3ヶ月以上たって、やっと、『氷菓』が手元に廻って
来ました。

その間に、私はアニメの方を見てしまいましたので、本を読んでいる間に、登場人物の声が頭の中に聞こえていました。

そのうえ、時として、アニメの場面さえ浮かび、自分の妄想を自分の手で払いのけたくなるくらい、鬱陶しいかぎりでした。

この現象は、私にとっては好ましくないので、アニメを先に見てしまったことを
後悔。

そう、アニメが悪いわけではなく、順番を間違えた私が悪かったのです。

ただし、主人公、折木奉太郎の声を担当する中村 悠一氏の声は、
気にはなりませんでした。

中村氏は

"君に届け"の'真田 龍'、

"世界一初恋"の'羽鳥 芳雪'、

"しろくまカフェ"の'グリズリー' 

など、私の好きなキャラクターを担当しているので、悪い印象がないのかもしれません。

まあ、それでも、最初に本を読む時は、声質が洗脳されていない状態の方が良いでしょうね。

Animation Effect on Me

I reserved this book about three months ago, finally I have got it!

Before the book arrived, I watched the animation of  "Hyouka, " so while I read it 
I could not stop listening to the characters's voices in my head. 

Moreover, sometimes I had got the animation scenes in my head, I wanted to forget them.

 I really regretted  watching the animation before reading the original book.

Oh! Yes! I do not think the animation is bad, I think my sequence is wrong. 

The voice of the main character, Houtaro Oriki is played by 
Yuichi Nakamura, I do not mind his voce.

He acted in other animated characters, for example,

'Ryu Sanada' in "Kimini Todoke : Please reach!", 

'Yoshiyuki Hatori' in "Sakaiichi Hatsukoi : Greatest First Love"

'Grizzly' in "Shirokuma Cafe: Polar Bear's Cafe."

I like the characters so I might not have negative feelings about the voice.

Well, anyway, it is the best that I first read a book, I should not be brainwashed about characters by the sound of voice. 

2) 本の『氷菓』 / The Original Book

アニメの悪影響はありましたが、『氷菓』は、思ったよりも、おもしろく、楽しく読ませていただきました。

この本は、"古典部シリーズ"の１話であり、
第5回角川学園小説大賞ヤングミステリー&ホラー部門奨励賞受賞作(2001)でもあり、作者のデビュー作であります。

私は、『氷菓』を読んでいて、ちょっと古めかしい、ノスタルジックな雰囲気を感じました。 

何となく、私としては、夏目漱石の『坊ちゃん』を思い出すのですよね〜、主人公の性格はかなり違うのに....不思議.....。

高校生で、ものぐさな主人公、折木奉太郎が姉の勧めで古典部に入ります。

古典部の仲間とともに、または、仲間のために、他愛無い謎ときをします。

この本では古典部の文集『氷菓』にまつわる謎ときが主軸となります。

省エネ気質の主人公の名前が奉仕の奉を使用して、'奉太郎'。

その気もないのに、何故だか、結局、奉仕労働、奉仕頭脳労働をしてしまう.....

ホウタロウというひびきも、ふらふらしている印象で、良いですね。

他にもたくさん、言葉遊びがあって、『氷菓』のオチも言葉遊び。

ただ、'氷菓のタネアカシ'については、かなり初期の段階で気がついてしまったので、その驚きはありませんでした。

むかし、昔、榊原 郁恵 (1956~)さんという歌手兼女優がいまして、
彼女の歌のフレーズに、

アイスクリーム

ユースクリーム

好きよ！

というのがあるのです。

その歌の題名さえも、忘れてしまっていますし、他の部分は全く覚えていません。

にもかかわらず、この部分だけ鮮明に記憶にあったので、
'氷菓のタネアカシ'に大変役立ってしまったのでした。

(因に、

1)榊原郁恵さんは、ピーター•パンの舞台で有名だったと思います。

2)英国にも

    I scream, 
    You scream, 
    We all scream, 
    for Ice cream
    という言葉遊びの歌があります。)

『氷菓』は、推理お遊びの本です。

軽さが故に人気があるように思います。

推理小説とは、結局、推理ゲームなので、遊びの感覚が大切なのかもしれません。

この作家は、自分自身も遊び心を忘れずに創作しているように思いますから、推理小説はあっているように思います。

推理小説を真っ正面から書いている方からすれば、『氷菓』は
その領域にも入らないお遊び小説かもしれません。

ですが、そのお遊び感覚が多くの人に好かれているのですよね。

でも私は、もうちょっと生真面目に？書かれたであろう、
『折れた竜骨』のほうが、好きです。

The Original Book

Although the animation distracted me, I still felt the book was interesting and 
I enjoyed reading it more than I thought. 

"HYOUKA" is the first book of the series "Classic Japanese Literature Club", it was awarded the fifth Kadokawa  Gakuen Prize for Young Mystery and Horror, Prize of Encouragement (2001) and it was the first novel by Honobu Yonezawa.

While I read "HYOUKA"  I felt the atmosphere is a little bit quaint and nostalgic.

Somehow it reminds me of Natsume Souseki's "Botchan," although 
I wonder why, given that  the main characters' personalities are quite different. 

The main character Houtaro Oriki is a high-school student,  who does not have any motivation for anything, although he did join a 'Classic Japanese Literature Club' on his elder sister's recommendation. 

He has succeeded in solving everyday puzzles, with, or for, other club members. 

In the book, there is a central riddle about  "HYOUKA",  which is a collection of compositions by Classic Japanese Literature Club members. 

Houtaro's personality is lazy,  which means if he does not have to do something, 
he would not do it, and if he must do something, he would do it the shortest possible way.

However, in his name 'Houtaro' : '奉太郎' ,  奉 means volunteer or service, in Japanese. 

Then although he would prefer not to do something, somehow he could be 
a volunteer or helper after all. 

Moreover, the sound of his name is easy going, it is fine for me!

There are many word plays and he solution to the central riddle of  "HYOUKA" is another play on words.

However, I realized the secret of  "HYOUKA" soon after beginning, so I could not have enjoyable amazement about it. 

 Ikue Sakakibara (1956~) was a singer and an actress. 

One of her song has the words below, 

I scream (I SUKURIMU ; ICE CREAM)

You scream (YU SUKURIUM)

Sukiyo (I LIKE YOU)
(They are Japanese word game, so it is difficult in English. )

I forgot the title of the song and any other words, I only remember these words clearly,  which worked well in the disclosure of the secret of  'Hyouka.'

(By the way, she played Peter Pan which was very popular. )

This book is a playful mystery. 

I think the light taste might be popular.

The mystery novel is a guessing game, so it is important that it is playful. 

I feel the author enjoyed making the story with a playful mind, so he suits mystery.

However, I like  "Oreta Ryukotsu : The Broken Keel" much more than this book and 

I guess he wrote "Oreta Ryukotsu" a little more seriously than this book. 

I wrote about another of  Honobu Yonezawa's books "Oreta Ryukotsu : The Broken Keel."
