A big work of contemporary art requires knowledge about
the foundations needed to support a huge structure.
This is basic knowledge for architects, so nowadays I feel
many huge works of contemporary art are designed by
architects.
Architects are good at making or designing three-dimensional
objects, so they are active in wide-ranging areas : fashion,
table-ware, bag (suitcase) and contemporary art.
table-ware, bag (suitcase) and contemporary art.
I think people including me who like contemporary art tend to
be attracted to huge works with unexpected ideas.
be attracted to huge works with unexpected ideas.
This might come from primitive feelings.
For example,
I think that if a thing is just tiny, it somehow makes
my feeling : this is lovely.
And also I think if a thing is just huge, it somehow makes
my feeling : this is great!
( Not always)
You think so too, don't you?
In contemporary art, these feelings about scale must still be
combined with new ideas.
Architects can have ideas for art which are different from
those up to the present.
those up to the present.
I think they have more new ideas about art than people who
just learn or study art.
Therefore their works are praised in the art world, it is their
time today.
[Postscript,17th of September]
I found that I had a big misunderstanding.
I thought the project is a design competition for a pavilion, and
Akihisa Hirata's design was selected, in fact a competition
was for art work to be displayed in the pavilion of
Akihisa Hirata's design.
