ナイマンズ / Nymans

'ナイマンズ'/  'Nymans ' は、英国南西部にある、ガーデンです。

19 世紀半ばドイツから、銀行家のルドウィン•メッセル / Ludwig Messel はロンドンに移住してきました。

1890年に彼は都会の喧噪を忘れる場所として、ナイマンズの家を敷地を購入、庭師のジェームズ•コンバー /James Comberとともに、庭を造りました。

現在みられる庭の基本は、その当時に作られ、植物は世界中から集められました。

その後、三世代に渡って、庭を発展させてきました。

1953年からナショナル•トラストが管理しています。

1947年の火事に寄って家はダメージを受けましたが、現在そこは遺跡の部分を残しながら、一部は家の体裁を保って一般公開されています。

私達が訪れた日は、'サマーボーダーズ' / Summer Borders の季節まっさかりで、そこは花の色彩であふれていました。

けれども、敷地は膨大で、他の部分でもそれぞれに感動することがたくさんありました。

今回の英国旅行では、庭を訪れる機会が恵まれ、それぞれの庭で高揚してしまい、膨大な写真撮影をし、その整理に追われることになりました。

そして、ここでもその例にしたがい、多くの写真を撮り、ブログに載せる時期が9月になってしまったのです。

Nymans

Nymans garden is in West Sussex.

Ludwig Messel, a Banker moved to London from Germany in the middle of 19th century.

He bought Nymans for escape away from chaos of London in 1890, he developed the garden with a gardener, James Comber and they collected the plants from all over the world and today, we see the foundations of the garden which were made at that time.

Then three generations had looked after the garden.

In 1953, the National Trust ; The National Trust for places of Historic Interest or National Beauty began managing there. 

In 1947, the family house had a fire, and today part of the house opens for visitors with the ruin. 

When we visited there, the season of 'Summer Borders' which was stunning and full of colourful flowers. 

However, the area is huge so other places also impressed me so much.

In this British trip, I have enjoyed visiting gardens, been impressed by every garden and I took a huge number of  photographs after then I am still impressed as I am tidying up the photographs. 

As with other gardens, I took many photographs here and then I put them in my blog in September.

７月終わりのこの時期にまだあじさいがあり、驚きます。

In the end of July, I was surprised by blossoms of hydrangea, 
because in Japan, at least in Kamakura, 
the season should be finished.

本物の木を使った遊び場
本物の木で、素朴で、ちょっとした危険があります。
日本では、こういう感じのものは、少ないですよね？
日本は、何もかも丸くし、危険を排除し、
長く保つために本物の木を使用することはあまりないように感じます。
こどもは、この程度の危険がある中で遊ぶほうが臨機応変さが
身に付くのでしょうと思った次第。

Play on the Real Tree 
These are real trunks, simple and a little dangerous.
This kind of play place is very few in Japan, isn't it?
I feel that in Japan, they make everything round to remove the dangers and
do not use real tree for long term use.
I thought children playing with a little danger may help them
learn adaptability as occasion may demand.

ナイマンズとE•H•シェパード

Nymans and E•H•Shepard

『たのしい川辺』/ "The Wind in the Willows"(1963/岩波書店
 作: ケネス•グレアムス, 1853 - 1932
訳: 石井桃子 ,1907- 2008,
挿絵；E.H.シェパード, 1879 -1976 )
に関した、イベントがあるのをこの看板で知りました。
私もRもこの本が大好き！
日本では岩波の本が一般的ですが、英国ではいろいろあり、
複数の実写版のフィルムもアニメーション版もあります。
きっと日本よりも人気も知名度もあるのでしょう。
本を読まないRが最後に読んだのがこの本であるという事実からしても、
その人気が個人的に理解できます(笑)。

ナイマンズでは E•H•シェパードを使用しています。
その理由は E•H•シェパード がここの景色を基にして
この物語のいくつかのイラストレーションを制作したからです。
因にE•H•シェパードは『くまのプーさん』の
イラストレーションでも知られています。

⓮ナイマンズ / Nymans - 25th of July 

I knew they have some event relating to 
"The Wind in the Willows"(1908,
the author : Kenneth Grahame, 1859 - 1932)
from this notice board.
I and R love this book!
There are many editions of the book by different illustrators, 
animations and films, too in Britain.
I think it is more popular and more widely known 
in Britain than in Japan. 
For R, who does not read books so much,
this was the last book he read, 
because of that, this is a proof of it,  
so I understand how popular it still is.(laugh)

Nymans uses the work of E.H. Shepard, 
because he used some views in Nymans for
 some illustrations of the book.

By the way, E.H. Shepard was well known as illustrator 
of "Winnie-the-Pooh"(1926).

 the original illustration of E.H. Shepard.
