『ディングルの入り江』,『風のフリュート』そして2006年のアイルランド旅行/ "Dingle Inlet", "Flute of Wind" and My Ireland Trip in 2006

1) 2冊の本 / The Two Books

英語のタイトルは私が勝手に翻訳したものです。

I arbitrarily translated the Japanese titles into English, myself.

Left ; "Dingle Inlet" and Right :  "Flute of Wind"

A. 作家 / The Author 

作家の藤原新也さんは写真家でもあります。

私はこの作家さんのことを良く知りません。初めて読んだのが、この２冊です。

きっかけは友人Sさんに『ディングルの入り江』(集英社、1998)を薦められたからです。

『ディングルの入り江』と『風のフリュート』(集英社、1998) は
シリーズと言えます。

『ディングルの入り江』は、主人公がアイルランドを訪れる話で、
その話を補足する形の写真集(に近い)が『風のフリュート』です。

両方とも、すごく、良かった！！！！(私には)

この２冊を読んだあとに、藤原さんを少しリサーチしました。

いろいろ賞を獲得し、その後は賞候補になっても、辞退しています。

気骨がある方なんですね。

ディングルとはアイルランド島の西南部にある半島の名前です。

蛇足ですが.....、

アイルランド島には、ダブリンを首都とする南西部大半の

アイルランド共和国と
北部はベルファストを首都とする
英国(正確にはグレートブリテン及び北アイルランド連合王国)
の二つの国があります。

The Author 

The author, Shinya Fujiwara is a photographer, too. 

I do not know so much about him, although my friend S recommended me "Dingle Inlet" to me, then I knew the book. 

It was the first time I read any of his works. 

"Dingle Inlet" and "Flute of Wind": are related. 

"Dingle Inlet" is a novel, the story of the main character visiting Ireland and 

 "Flute of Wind" supports the story and is mainly photographs.

They are so good for me!

After I read the two books, I researched the author a little bit. 

He had got a few literary prizes and though his later works were considered for some prizes, he refused to accept them. 

He is spirited, isn't he?

He runs a website magazine : CAT WALK (in Japanese) with an admission fee and the numbers are limited. 

So it means that  not  everybody can become a member.

Dingle is the name of a peninsula in the South West of Ireland. 

Probably below is superfluous, ....but 

Ireland consists of the Republic of Ireland, most of the south and west of the island, the capital city is Dublin, and the rest is called Northern Ireland (and to be exact is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), and the capital city is Belfast.

B. 本 / Books

『ディングルの入り江 』の中で、私は涙がこみあげてくる場面が

いくつかありました。

それは、自分でも何故ここでと思うところでした。

それもたいして、ドラマティックな場面ではないところでです。

登場人物が語る内容に共感するものが多かったです。

このお話にでてくるブランケット島の写真は

時を止めて過去にたたずむ、世界9の放棄された島

で見られます。

もともと私は廃墟が好きなので上記のwebsiteはとても興味深く感じました。

 "Books"   

A few times I was teary-eyed in some scenes in "Dingle Inlet", although the scenes were not so dramatic and also I did not know why I became like that in them. 

I felt sympathy with the characters's voices in the novel many times.

Basically I love ruins, so I am very interested in above website. 



C. アイルランドの写真 / Photographs in Ireland

私も2007年にアイルランドを訪ね、写真も撮りました。

私の写真は、旅行者の目のもの、けれど、藤原新也さんは、住民の目の高さに近く、物事をとらえ、撮影もしていますね。

また、土地の厳しさやそこで生きる住民の逞しさ、彼らの底辺に流れる悲しさ、などなどを、彼は描いています。

『フィオナの海』という映画も思い出しました。

私がアイルランドを訪ねたのは、夏でしたから、印象は藤原さんが訪ねた冬(おそらく)とは違っていたでしょう。

けれども、夏であっても雨風が強い日はありました。

その思い出とともに、藤原さんの写真を見れば、ある程度のことは
より一層感じ取れたのではないかと思います。

残念ながら、ディングルは計画の中にありながら行く事ができませんでした。

ディングル半島のとなりのIvergh(アイバーグ)半島と、その先に
あるヴァレティア島には行きました。

なぜならその半島には,、"Staigue Fort"(Staigue Stone Fort)という古代(およそAD300 or 400)の石の城塞遺跡があるからです。

"Photographs in Ireland"

I visited Ireland and took photographs in 2006.

The views of my photograph are through tourist eyes , however,  
Mr. Fujiwara's photographs are closer to the views of residents.  

He represents the native's sternness, the courageousness of people who live there, their sadness  and others. 

It reminded me of the film : The Secret of Roan Inish.

I visited Ireland in summer in 2006. 

Probably the author visited in winter, so our impressions were different. 

There were some cold and windy days even in summer. 

Therefore I looked at his photographs with my memory, and I think 
I understood some of his impressions more than just by looking at the photographs in the book. 

Unfortunately I could not visit the Dingle Peninsula.

I went to the Ivergh Peninsula  which is next to the Dingle Peninsula, and Valentia Island, because  "Staigue Fort" (See above photograph) is there.

ディングル半島の写真ではありませんが、近くのアイバーグ半島とヴァレンティア島の写真を載せます。

おそらく、雰囲気はデイングル半島と似ていると思います。

I shall show you some photographs, although they are not about the Dingle Peninsula.

The photographs were taken in the Ivergh Penisula and Valentia lsland.

『ディングルの入り江』の中で、ブルースハープというハーモニカが重要な役割をします。

その音が聞けて、私なりのこの小説のイメージが重なる動画はこれかなと思って選びました。結構暗く、通常のアイリッシュミュージックとは違うように思います。

この動画のあとに紹介する３つは明るいので、ご安心ください。

A 'blues harp' : Richter-tuned harmonica is featured in "Dingle Inlet".

I selected this film, because it shows blues harp music and fits my image of the novel.

I think it is quite dark, and is not in the usual Irish folk style.
