Rのフルーツサラダ
"マリーゴールド"
夫Rはフルーツが大好きで、フルーツサラダを作ります。
今日のフルーツサラダのタイトルは、
"マリーゴールド" だそうです。

"Marigold"

My husband R loves fruits and makes fruit salad.

He said the title of today's fruit salad is "Marigold".

B. 花のマリーゴールド / Marigold Flowers 

私は、子供の時に 'マリゴールド' という名前を知りました。

それは学校でも自宅でも、

　「 'マリーゴールド' は虫除けになり、一緒に植えた植物も守られるよ！」

と、教えられ、記憶に残ったからだと思います。

花の意味は、"聖母マリアの黄金の花" で神々しいイメージです。

[聖母マリアの祝日 (聖母の被昇天 / 8月15日) に、いつも咲いていることに由来すると言われています。

 8月15日は、日本では終戦記念日ですね。

聖母マリアの祝日はカソリックが根強い国で実行されているようです。英国では休日ではありません。]

にもかかわらず、私はこの花をあまり好きになれず、自分の意志で植えたことはありません。

現在の庭にもマリーゴールドはありません。

Rには悪いイメージがないので、時々彼はマリーゴールドを購入しようとしますが、私の反対によって彼の意見は却下されます(笑)。

彼の主張はフルーツサラダで表現されました。

マリーゴールド 

写真の花は、フレンチ・マリーゴルドと呼ばれ

和名は、クジャクソウ（孔雀草)です。

草丈が低くて枝分かれの多いのが特徴です。

マリゴールドには、多数の種類があります。

アメリカ大陸の熱帯と温帯にかけて約50種があるそうです。

 Marigold : Tagetes Patula

The flower in the photograph is called French Marigold

and Japanese name is Kujaku-sou : Peacock Grass.

It is characterized by its short plant height and many branches.

There are many species of Marigolds.

There are about 50 species from the tropics

 to temperate zones in the Americas.

Marigold Flowers 

When I was a child, I knew of a name, 'Marigold'.

I think it's because I was taught at school as well as at home,

"Marigold' works as an insect repellent and protects other plants beside it!"

and I remembered it.

The meaning of the flower is "the golden flower of the Virgin Mary", which gives me a divine image.

[Derived from the fact that it always blooms on the holiday of the Virgin Mary : 15th of August ( Assumption of Mary).

The day is National Memorial Service for War Dead in Japan. 

The holiday of the Virgin Mary seems to be carried out in countries where Catholicism is deeply rooted. It's not a holiday in Britain. ]

Nevertheless, I don't like this flower so much, and I have never planted it by my own opinion.

There is no marigold in our garden either.

R doesn't have a negative image, sometimes he tries to buy marigolds, but my opposition dismisses his opinion (Laugh).

His claim was expressed in fruit salad.

 マリーゴールド 
この花もマーリゴールドの1つ。
和名は、センジュギク(千寿菊)またはマンジュギク(万寿菊)、
英名はアフリカン・マリーゴールド、
メキシカン・マリーゴールド、または
アステカ・マリーゴールドです。
草丈が高くて大輪が特徴です。

 Marigold : (Tagetes Erecta)

This flower is also a Marigold.

The Japanese name is Senjyu-giku ; Thousand Chrysanthemum or

Manjyu-giku ; Ten Thousand Chrysanthemum.

  The English name is African Marigold  or the Mexican Marigold 

or Aztec Marigold.

It is tall and features large flowers.

2) 庭 / Garden

理由はわかりませんが、今年は地植えの植物が良い状態です。

桜の開花も例年より早かったので、植物達にとって好ましい気候が早くにやってきているのでしょうか？

I don't know why, but this year the plants in the ground are in good condition.

The cherry blossoms bloomed earlier than usual, so is the favorable climate for the plants coming early?

モッコウバラ
我が家のモッコウバラ (木香茨 / 木香薔薇) はずっと調子が悪く
ほとんど花を付けませんでした。
ですが、今年は多くの蕾を、花を付けてくれています。
毎日に、見るのが楽しみです。
モッコウバラの撮影も多くなりました。

Lady Banks' Rose

Our Lady Banks' Rose hadn't ever bloomed well.

However, there are many flower buds and flowers this year.

I'm looking forward to looking at it every day.

The number of photographs of Lady Banks' Rose

 has also increased.

ウツギ
ウツギは最初は鉢に植え、その後、地植えに変えました。
地植えのウツギは、なかなか成長せず、
その存在もわからなくなってしまう年もありました。
ですが、今年は、かなり良い状態です。
花もつけてくれたので、嬉しく感じています。

 Deutzia Crenata 

 Deutzia Crenata was first planted in a pot 

and then changed to ground planting.

In some years, it didn't grow well and 

I couldn't even see its existence.

But this year it's in pretty good condition.

I'm glad that it also has some flowers.

ルドベキア？
この黄色い花は、名前がわからなくなっていました。
ですが、今の状態からすると、ルドベキアではないかと
推測しています。

Rudbeckia?

This yellow flower had no name.

However, from the current state, 

I guess that this may be Rudbeckia.

イベリス
イベリスも最初は鉢植えにし、花の季節後に地植えにしました。
いくつかあったので、それぞれ違う場所に植え、
その後の成長も違います。
今年は、この写真のイベリスが元気に咲いてくれました。

Iberis
Iberis is also called Candytuft.

Iberis were also planted in pots at first and then planted 

in the ground after the flower season.

There were some, so I planted them in different places,

 and the growth after that was also different.

This year, Iberis in this photograph has bloomed well.

この場所にあるクリスマスローズは、
今までで一番元気です。

The Christmas Rose in this place is its most energetic ever.

フラワー・アレンジメント
フラワー・アレンジメントと呼びはしますが、花を切って瓶に生けただけです。
空き瓶や欠けた食器、自作の磁器、陶器を花瓶代わりにしています。
日々、花は去ってゆくもの、加えられるものがあり、
その変化に対応して器も変わります。
私にとって、この行為はドローイングの1つです。

Flower Arrangement

I call this a flower arrangement, but I just cut the flowers and put them in vessels.

I use empty bottles, chipped tablewares, 

my porcelain works and earthenware works instead of vases.

Every day, some flowers are leaving and some are added,

 and the vessels change in response to those changes.

For me, this is one of my drawings.

角度を変えて撮影
角度を変え、部分撮影をします。
こんな小さな世界でも切り取る場所によって表情が変わります。

Change the angle and photograph parts.

Even in such a small world, the expression changes 

depending on where I trim.

Rはここを'床の間' / Toko-no-maと呼びます。

Display Corner
R calls here "Toko-no-ma".
According to Wiki about Toko-no-ma,
"A tokonoma (床の間, toko-no-ma), or simply toko (床),
 is a recessed space in a Japanese-style reception room,
 in which items for artistic appreciation are displayed. 
In English, a tokonoma could be called an alcove."

ヨーグルト・ポムポム
'ヨーグルト・ポムポム (リンゴ)' は、
私がよく作るケーキです。
ですが毎回何かは変化し、同じケーキはありません。
今回は通常輪切りのトッピングのバナナを縦長にしています。
このバナナはRのお気に入りの味になりました。

Yogurt Pompom

'Yogurt Pompom (apple)' is a cake that I often made.

But every time something changes, no two cakes are the same.

The bananas, which are usually sliced toppings, 

are this time cut lengthwise.

This banana has become R's favourite taste.

イースター・カードと花
英国の友人カップルJ&Sからイースターカードが届きました。
偶然にもそのカードと飾っていた花達がリンクしていました。
その上、カードのアルメリアは、私達が最近植え、花を摘んで
飾っていた花と同じでした。

Easter Card and Flowers

We received an Easter card from our British friend couple J&S.

Coincidentally, the card and the flowers

 that were displayed were linked.

What's more, the Armeria flower on the card was

 the same flower we recently planted and cut for decoration.

B.  '西洋おかゆ' / Porridge

日本で 'オートミール' と呼ばれる '西洋おかゆ'は、英語では、

'ポリッジ / Porridge' と言います。

 英語では、'オートミール' / Oatmeal は材料で、

'ポリッジ / Porridge' は料理名と私は理解しています。

私が'オートミール' を知ったのは、

アーサー・ランサム (1884 - 1967) 作

『ツバメ号とアマゾン号』(初版・1930 / 日本語版) 

の本の中でした。

本では、"おかゆ"と訳されています。

『ツバメ号とアマゾン号』シリーズは、私のお気に入りのシリーズ本で、物語のロケーション地のいくつかは訪ねています。

アーサー・ランサムは、MI6 (秘密情報部 / ヒミツジョホウブ) に所属していたと言う面白い経歴を持つ作家です。

私はオートミールを食べると、時々『ツバメ号とアマゾン号』を思い出すのです。

英国人のRは、日本のおかゆと似た感覚がオートミールにはあるようで、胃腸の機能が落ちている時は、オートミールなら食べられると言う気になるようです。

この日は、体調を崩したRのためにオートミールを作りました。

もちろん、英国では、人々は健康状態が良い時にも、'力を得る朝食' として食べられています。

スコットランドの朝食の1つと言う印象の方が私には強いです。

オートミール (ポリッジ)
ポリッジは、私は好きなのですが、
日本では結構嫌いな人も多いと言う印象があります。
写真は、Rのポリッジです。

 Porridge
I like a porridge, but I have the impression that
there are a few people who dislike it in Japan.
This photograph is R's porridge.

Porridge

'Porridge' is called 'Oat Meal' in Japan.

I found out about 'Porridge' in a book , "Swallows and Amazons"(1930) by Arthur Ransome (1884 - 1967).

In the Japanese translation, 'Porridge' is translated as "Okayu"(お粥).

The "Swallows and Amazons" series are my favourite books, and I've visited some of the book's locations.

Arthur Ransome was an author with an interesting background, in that he belonged to MI6 : Secret Intelligence Service ( ★ ; BBC).

When I eat porridge, I sometimes remember "Swallows and Amazons".

British, R seems to have a feeling similar to the Japanese about Japanese porridge : Okayu and when gastrointestinal function is impaired, he seems to be motivated to eat porridge.

On this day, I made oatmeal for R who was not well.

Of course, in Britain, people eat porridge as a 'powerful breakfast 'even when they are in good health.

The impression that it is one of the Scottish breakfasts is strong for me.

オートミールの有名ブランドの1つ
スコットランドの民族衣装を着た男性が
パッケージに使用されています。
私が日本で使用しているオートミールは国産品ですが
英国で初期に食べたオートミールはこのブランドでした。
スペルが、'Porage' ですが間違いではありません。
歴史的にも使用されてきましたし現在では
ブランドネームとして使用されています。

One of the Famous Brands of Porridge

Men in Scottish national costumes are used in the packaging.

The oatmeal I use in Japan is a domestic product,

 but the oatmeal I used early in Britain was this brand.

The spelling is 'Porage', but it's not a mistake.

It has been used historically and is now used as the brand name.

C. モッコウバラ / Lady Banks' Rose

モッコウバラ
鎌倉で、モッコウバラ (木香茨 / 木香薔薇) が見事に
生い茂っている場面をよく見ます。
我が家のモッコウバラもそうなると思っていましたが
なかなか元気に咲いてくれませんでした。
ですが今年は、どう言うわけか、元気に咲き出してくれています。
嬉しい！

 Lady Banks' Rose

In Kamakura, I often see Lady Banks' Rose overgrown.

I thought that our Lady Banks' Rose would be the same,

 although it didn't bloom well.

However, this year, for some reason, it's blooming well.

Happy!

英名 (Lady Banks' Rose) は、

英国の植物学者ジョゼフ・バンクス卿 (1743 -1820)の

妻・ドロテア・レディ・バンクスに
ちなんで名付けられました。

The rose is named for Dorothea Lady Banks,
the wife of an English botanist, Sir Joseph Banks (1743 -1820).

3月後半に、'緊急事態宣言解除' になりました。

今後、通常生活が戻ってくることを願い、ステイ・ホームの

セクションを、3月で終了することにしました。

まあ、引き続き、私の場合、自宅中心の生活は今後も似たようなものなのですが....

とにかく、4月1日のセクションをアップします。

2階から
例年なら4月1日は桜が蕾をつける頃、
または、蕾の膨らみを見てもうすぐ咲くかと
心待ちにしています。
今年は開花がとても早く、今日は桜が散り
庭は桜の絨毯になっています。
雨が降ったことも花が散ることを
後押ししてしまったのかもしれません。

From First Floor

In an average year, on the 1st of April 

 is when the cherry trees start having buds or

 when I am looking forward to cherry blossom soon 

after seeing the full buds.

This year's flowering is very early and today

the cherry blossoms are scattered making

 a cherry carpet in the garden.

They may have been encouraged by the rain and

 the petals scattered.

Cherry Carpet

In the second half of March, it became 'Cancellation of the State of Emergency'.

I hope to return to our normal life in the future so I decided to finish the 'Stay Home' section of my blog in March.

Well, continue, in my case, my home-centered life is likely to be similar ....

Anyway, upload the1st of April section.

    Happiness Sharing of Flowers 

花のお福分け
1階には庭で摘んだ花のフラワーアレンジメントが
たくさんあります。
「2階にも花を！」
と夫Rが運んでくれました。

 On the ground floor, there are a lot of flower arrangements,

of flowers which I had picked from our garden.

My husband R thought 
'Flowers also on the first floor!'
and he brought them up to me.

誕生日プレゼント
4月は私の誕生日月です。
友人Mが早々とお誕生日プレゼントを送ってくれました。
本人も自覚していないくらい早い時期に
Mは毎年、プレゼントを送ってくれます。
本当にどうもありがとう！！！

Birthday Presents

April is my birthday month.

My friend M sent me birthday presents early.

 M sends presents every year at a time 

even before I have been aware.

Thank you very much! ! !

4) おやつの時間 / Snack Time

'レーズンウィッチ'
昨日、お使いものとして小川軒 : ★の 'レーズンウィッチ' を
買いました。
その機会に自宅用にも、季節限定の '杏クリーム' と
新商品の 'コーヒークリーム' を買いました。
どちらもとっても美味しかったです。

'Raisinwich'

We bought 'Raisinwich's in a sweet shop, Ogawaken: ★  

as gifts yesterday.

 We also took the opportunity to buy 

some seasonal 'Apricot Cream' 

and some new product 'Coffee Cream' for home.

Both were delicious.
