'日本橋' の 麒麟  

'日本橋' は国の重要文化財です。

麒麟像の原型製作は渡辺 長男 (ワタナベ タケオ / 1874 - 1952）。

渡辺 長男の弟は、彫刻家の朝倉文夫 (アサクラ フミオ/ 1883 -1964).

台東区谷中の朝倉彫塑館は、朝倉の自宅を美術館にしています。

Rが初めて日本へ来たときに、最初に連れていったのが、朝倉彫塑館でした。

こんなつながりが、嬉しいです。

因みに、文夫は養子に出されたので、彼らの姓は違っています。

 Kirin on the 'Nihonbashi'

The 'Nihonbashi' is an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

The original statue was made by Takeo Watanabe (1874 - 1952).

Watanabe’s younger brother was a sculptor, Fumio Asakura (1883 -1964).

Nowadays, Asakura's house is the Asakura Museum of Sculpture in Tokyo

The first time R visited Japan, the first place I took R to was this Museum.

I am pleased with the link like this.

By the way, Fumio was adopted, so their surnames were different.

言うまでもなく、'日本橋' は'五十三次'の出発地点、

ですが、宿としてはカウントされないので、53の中には入っていないのです。

'Nihobashi' was the starting point of "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō",

 it was not counted as a station, so it was not included in the 53.

石橋の初代は、1911年に完成し、現在のものは19代目もしくは20代目と言われています。
この当時から、麒麟があるのですね、嬉しい！
現在の橋の上には高速道路が走り、ここに見られる叙情性はありません。
ですが、原型を維持しようという意思と努力は感じられます。

The first  stone bridge was completed in 1911 and they say the present bridge is the 19th or 20th bridge there.
Now, I realize that the Kirins were already there, I am glad!
Nowadays a motorway runs above the bridge, so we can no longer see the lyricism of this photograph.
However, I feel their opinion and effort which has kept the original.

日本橋(場所・地名)の観光名所のひとつは、'日本橋' (実際の橋)であり、そこにある麒麟の彫像です。

私にとって麒麟(キリン)は、ドラゴン同様、ファンタジー世界のシンボルです。

一般的には、東野圭吾(1958 -)氏の推理小説『麒麟の翼』(2011/講談社)、もしくは映画「麒麟の翼・劇場版・新参者」[2012 / 監督: 土井 裕泰 (ドイ ノブヒロ/1964 -)]の舞台として知られているのかもしれません。

麒麟像には日本の道路の起点となる日本橋から飛び立つというイメージから
翼が付けられたそうです。

Kirins on the Nihonbashi
They say they had an image that the Kirins fly away from Nihonbashi : 
the start points of Japanese roads, so these Kirins do have wings. 

One of the sightseeing spots in the Nihonbashi area is the Nihonbashi as a bridge and also the statues of Kirin on the bridge. 

For me, Kirin is a symbol of Fantasy Worlds, just like Dragons.

Nowadays, Generally speaking, these Kirins might have become popular as they are a location in the novel, "The Wings of the Kirin" : "Kirin no Tsubasa"

 [by Keigo Higashino (1958 -) / 2011, Kodansha] and 

 the film, "The Wings of the Kirin" : "Kirin no Tsubasa: Gekijōban Shinzanmono"[2012/ director : Nobuhiro Doi (1964 -)].

銘板の"日本橋"の揮毛 (キゴウ) は

徳川慶喜 (1866 - 1867) のもの。
こちらの彫像は獅子が東京都の市章を持っています。

The Japanese Characters :"日本橋 : Ni-hon-bashi" on the nameplate
by Tokugawa Yoshinobu (1837-1913), 

 the 15th and last Shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan.
This statue is a Lion with the Coat of Arms of Tokyo.

現在でも、日本橋は東京の道路の起点で、道路元標があります。

Nowadays, Nihonbashi is still the starting point of Tokyo's roads, 

so it has the "Kilometre Zero".
