A. 可愛い村 / Pretty Village 

カッスル・クーム / Castle Combe は、バース / Bathから近いこともあって、
レイコック / Lacock 同様、時々出かけた村です。

カッスル・クームは、とても可愛い村！

通りにはコッツウォルズ ストーンの壁と自然石を割って作ったタイルの屋根で構成される古い家が続きます。

今まで多くのドラマ、映画、アニメなどのロケーション場所やモデルになった場所があります。

小さな村ですが、観光バスでのツアー客も訪れる人気の村です。

村の中心から約徒歩10分弱の場所に駐車場がありますが、英国人は路上駐車できれば、そこにしますし、私たちもそうしています。

この方法は違法ではないのですよ。

Castle Combe is close to Bath, so sometimes I visited there as often as Lacock.

Castle Combe is a very pretty village.

On the streets, the houses are built of Cotswolds stone walls and roofs made from split natural stone tiles.

There has been the locations or models of many dramas, films and animations. 

The village is quite small, although it is popular as many coach tourists come.

The car park takes about 10 minutes on foot from the Village centre, however,
if British can get parking on the street, they would use it and we did. 

This way is not illegal.

この道の先に小さく見えるのが14世紀築のマーケット・クロス  / Market Cross 。

マーケット・クロスは、三叉路にあります。

You can see a small building at the top of this road
which was built in the 14th Century, the Market Cross.
Market Cross is a three-forked road.

中世時代より使用されています。

15世紀後半に作られたと推測されています。

ステンドグラス / Stained glass

教会の中へ入ることは、あまりありませんでした。

今回はNファミリーが初めてなので、中へ入りました。

通常は正門から入り、外から建物を見学しつつ、裏門から出て、

ウエストストリート /  West Street に入り、

マナー ハウス ホテル / The Manor House Hotelへ向かいました。

We did not enter the church normally.

This was the first time N family visited, so we went in.

We used to go in from the main gate, look at the church, go out to West Street 

and we went toward  The Manor House Hotel.

可愛い村に、4つ星ホテル、マナー ハウス ホテル  / Manor House Hotel

マナー ハウス ホテル / The Manor House Hotel 

もとは14世紀に建てられ、何人ものオーナーを経て、現在に至ります。

ホテルの敷地は365エーカー。

宿泊客でないと入りにくい雰囲気があります。

私達は宿泊したことはありませんが、庭に入って咎められたことはありません。

リラックスをテーマにしているホテルのようなので、

いちいち見学者をチェックすることもないのでしょう。

もともと、ホテルは公共の場ですよね？

The Manor House Hotel 

Originally built in the 14th Century, it has had many owners 
and nowadays is a hotel.

The grounds are 365 acres.

If you do not stay in the hotel, you would feel it is difficult to enter their garden.

I haven't stayed, have been in the garden,
 though I have never been reproved.

Their theme seems to be relaxation, they might not ask each visitor.

Basically a hotel is public space, isn't it? 

いつか、私にも泊まれる日がくるのでしょうか？
Am I able to stay here one day?

建物はマナーハウス・ホテルの別館であり、
この通りもホテルの敷地内です。

 West Street
These buildings are the hotel's annexes and 
this street is the hotel's property.

2) レイコック / Lacock

先にも書きましたが、私がバースに住んでいる時、レイコックも複数回行っています。

私が初めてレイコックを訪ねた時は、レイコック修道院 / Lacock Abbey が
ハリーポッターの映画のロケーション地であることが世に知れ渡る前でした。

その時既にナショナルトラスト / National Trust (★) によって村は保護され、観光地になっていましたし、他の映画やドラマのロケーション地にもなっていました。

私がレイコックを知ったのは、バースに住み始めた際に、ウィンブルドンの英語学校の先生が、レイコックを勧めてくださったからです。

カッスル クームも同様なのですが、今までに写真撮影はかなりしていましたので、今回はNファミリーを被写体にしたものが殆どなので、ブログ用にはウィキペディアの写真を複数使用させていただいています。感謝！

この日はオックス フォード / Oxford にも行く予定になっていたので、レイコック修道院のみだけ見ました。

オックス フォードでは、Nファミリーは観光し、私たちは、オックス フォードの北にある街でお茶をしました。

オックス フォードが卒業式シーズンらしく、すごい人混みで駐車場もなかなか空きがなかったので、私とRはオックス フォードから離れたのです。

なので、オックスフォードの写真はありません。

Lacock 

When I lived in Bath I visited Lacock a few times as mentioned above.

The first time I visited here was before Lacock Abbey became popular as the location of the Harry Potter  films.

At that time, the village was already protected by the National Trust and has been a tourist spot and location of a few films and dramas.

I had just started living in Bath when an English teacher of Wimbledon English School recommended Lacock. 

As with Castle Combe, I had taken many photographs there and the subject of my photographs was N family this time, so I use a few photographs from Wikipedia for my blog, thank you!

We were going to  Oxford after this village, so we just looked at Lacock Abbey.

In Oxford, N family had sightseeing, I and R went to a town to the North of Oxford and had tea time.

Oxford seemed to have graduation ceremonies, so there were crowds of people, car parks did not have spaces for us and then we left there.

Therefore I do not have photographs in Oxford.

レイコック修道院 / Lacock Abbey 

レイコック修道院
ソールズベリーの伯爵夫人によって1232年に創設されました。
その後、複数のオーナーを経て
1944年にナショナル トラストに寄付されました。

 Lacock Abbey
In 1232, Lacock Abbey was established by the Countess of Salisbury.
Later it had been through a few owners and then
the National Trust was given it in 1944.

以前来た時よりも、ナショナルトラストによって、たくさん手が入っていました。
フォクス タルボット博物館 (★) も備えられていました。
ハリーポッター効果でしょうか？

The National Trust has opened more rooms than before.
There is a Museum : the Fox Talbot Museum (★), too.
Was it affected by Harry Potter?

この回廊がハリーポッターの映画に使用されました。
The corridors were used for Harry Potter films.

1) 宿泊 / Stay

泊まったホテル : ★
実はNファミリーにB&Bに泊まっていただきたくて企画した一泊旅行でした。
けれども、コッツオルズ / Cotswolds のB&Bは最低2泊からの予約だったので、
実現できませんでした。
私はバース/ Bath に住んでいたのでコッツウォルズに泊まることがなく、
2泊からの予約というのを今回初めて知ったのです。
結局このホテルに泊まることになりました。
このホテルでさえも、私達の予約で満室になりました。
コッツウォルズの人気を感じます。

Our Hotel : ★
Actually I had the plan of one night two days trip for N family,
because I hoped they could experience B&B.
However, all B&Bs in Cotswolds only accept from two nights,
 as far as I researched, so I could not make it.
When I lived in Bath I did not have to stay in the Cotswolds,
so this time I found out the B&Bs take a booking from two nights.
Eventually we stayed in this hotel.  

Nファミリーの一番の希望の、一部屋に家族揃って泊まることは、
実現できたのは良かったです。
英国にありがちな、夏場の暖房がよく効かないとか、
温水の量に限りがあるとかはもちろんありましたが、
ホテル側にもできるだけのことはしていただいたようなので、
許容範囲だったと思います。
こういうことも、英国らしさだと思えるので、
体験していただくには良かったと思います。
逆に、日本の良さもこういうところで感じられるように思います。

７月後半に暖房が必要になるのも英国、
もしも暑くてもエアコンがないというのも英国です。
実はロンドンの私達の家にもエアコンはなく、一般住宅では普通のことです。

N family's first choice about stay was that the family stay in a room.
It was good they could make it.
In Britain, often heatings of summer do not work well or
it has limited quantity of hot water and the hotel is like this.
However, the hotel seemed to do their best for the problems
 and I felt they were within a permissible range.
In my view, these are British features
 so it was good N family had these experiences.
And on the other hand, I think we could feel Japanese good points 
when we had suffered these conditions.

We needed heating in July, this is Britain.
Even if we did feel hot they do not have air-conditioners, this is Britain.
Actually our house in London does not have an air-conditioner,
this is normal for general residences.

バーを利用する機会はありませんでした。
We did not have a opportunity to use the bar.

2) 夕飯 / Dinner 

7月24日の夕飯は宿泊したホテルでとりました。
近くのパブでフィッシュ アンド チップスをN家の皆さんに
食べていただきたかったのですが、パブが満席で実現できませんでした。
通常は食べる場所を決めていたら予約するのですが、
この日は観光を優先させていたので、予約していなかったのです。

私はラムを美味しくいただきました。
殆どの写真に焦点がないので、ここに載せられません。

We had our dinner in the hotel on 24th of July.
I had hoped N family could have Fish and Chips in a pub which is close to the hotel,
however, the pub was full, we could not make it.
Normally if we decided on a place for food, we would book,
though our priority was sightseeing so we did not book.

I had a lovely lamb dish.
Most of my photographs do not have focus, so I cannot show you here.

お料理は、英国のレストランとしては、注文したものにもよりますが、
押し並べて良かったと思います。
英国料理らしい感じは味わっていただけたように思います。

I felt almost all dishes were good as far as British restaurants go,
depending on which dishes were ordered.
I think they had caught the tastes of British meals.

いつもは撮影する朝食の写真も今回はありません。
Usually I photograph breakfast, although I did not this time.

3) 25日の朝 / Morning of 25th 

朝日が嬉しい / Please the Morning Sun.
ホテルですがB＆Bの良い意味での田舎らしさがあります。
コッツウォルズという土地にあっているホテルかと思います。

Here is a hotel, although it has a good atmosphere of the countryside.
I feel the hotel suits the area of the Cotswolds.
