After engawa, we walked, passed the Hayama Imperial Villa and then went to 'Cafetier'.
The shop roast and sells coffee beans and is one-table cafe.

In Japan, the bags of coffee beans before roasting are called 'DONGOROSU' .
The shop had a small exhibition of 'DONGOROSU' and a variety of bags made from 'DONGOROSU'.

Cafetier

The origin of the word 'DONGOROSU' is from Hindi "Dugri", then it became "Dungaree" in English, later it became 'DONGOROSU' in Japanese.

In Japan, apparently, DONGOROSU is used to mean a bag for crops by farmers or coin bags by bankers.

In English, "Sacks" hold coffee beans, coal, vegetable and crops.

In the shop, I had a cup of today's coffee : 'Sumatra Mandheling' and R had a cafe au lait.

We bought one of the shop's original blends of coffee beans which is a mixture of 5 types of coffee.

Sumatra Mandheling beans comes from Sumatra, although Mandailing area does not produce coffee according to Wikipedia. In addition, Sumatra is the 6th largest island in the world, so Sumatra is much bigger than Japan.

About pictures

About pictures

Before we went in the shop, I found an interesting picture on a glass door.

I did not feel high skill in it, although it has passionate feeling, so it was attractive for me.

Later, I looked at the Festival pamphlet and realised it was one of the 10 Festival posters.

The bottom of the poster was hidden by DONGOROSU, so I did not realise.

In the shop, I found another picture which I think is by the same artist, so I guess the artist and the shop are friends.

I took a couple of photographs in the shop after I got permission from them.

I wanted to capture the normal atmosphere of the shop.

Later I realised that the composition of one of my photographs is very similar to the painting, even the owner's stance and position are the same.

I feel a little bit glad about this coincidence.

The Little House"

"The Little House"

The walls have been heavily darkened a coffee colour by smoke from the coffee roasting.

I feel even the air is coffee coloured and I have the illusion of being in an old sepia film.

After we left the shop, I turned round and I saw their chimney.

Even though the chimney is made of metal, the shop reminds me of a children's picture book "The Little House" (by Virginia Lee Burton), because I felt that the shop has stayed the same for many years.

"The Little House" has a happy end to the story, the shop looked happy too.

3knot' house

'3knot' house

Next, we went to 3knot by bus, enjoying the sea views as we went.

Even though we got off at the right stop, we had to call twice to find the shop, and by then they were about to close.

The shop did not have a special display for the Festival, although things in there were well chosen.

And also here has some wire-work by Mr.Fukutome, who told me about the Festival.

R was surprised to see leather cycle saddles by BROOKS.

He has got a beautiful catalogue of BROOKS. Other things were British wellington boots, Canadian snow boots, Dutch oven (it just holds one apple), framed A4 size Moomin posters and so on.

The owner couple live there and they look as though they enjoy the seaside life.
